1 out of 5 eggsRebate Rejected

Pros: I use Quicken and Turbo Tax exclusively

Cons: Bought Quicken 2014 Deluxe and Turbo Tax 2014 Deluxe. Submitted rebate and got rejected. Very disappointed -- bought Quicken due to the combo rebate.

Other Thoughts: Will no longer buy Quicken combined with Turbo Tax to avoid future disappointment.

4 out of 5 eggsBetter than I thought

Pros: All in one automatic account updates (or individual if one wants that), memorizes vendors, converts MS Money data to its format while leaving the original MS Money file available to use by it. Many options available to setup Quicken the way the customer would like. Allows customer feedback via it's HELP menu - most companies are not so open to comments.

Cons: The customer user interface could be better and Quicken, in general, could be more customer friendly in the way it functions. It's more complex in design than first appears and does have some specific shortcomings that should be addressed, and these should be done in a way that appeases their customers. Right now many customers feel unappreciated.

Other Thoughts: I used Quicken way back in the late '80s when it first appeared. Or was it the early '90s? Don't remember - been so long ago. However, when MS Money by Microsoft first appeared a few years later, I tried it and switched and have used it up to now, far after Microsoft abandoned it but allowed customer to use their free non-supported Sunset edition. Microsoft has always tried to keep the customer experience in mind when developing it's products. Quicken, not so much. That's the negative side that so many customers are unhappy with at Quicken - they seem to want to fix things their way only and want the customer to adapt to them rather than trying to make their software more intuitive for their customer. It's a bit strange that they company name is Intuit - a part of the word intuitive.

I use Quicken Deluxe 2014 for very basic checking/savings/credit card accounts. No retirement plans (I am retired), no brokerage accounts, no budget planning per se - just account and debt tracking and management. I tell you this so you understand my usage of their product in relation to this review. My use is rather simple, so my problems with it are simple. I've only found one problem so far: I ordered a digital product for a game I play everyday. I have two separate accounts in that game and I ordered the exact same product twice, once for each account. The cost was identical and done on the same day through the same/only vendor, therefore, it was listed twice in my checking account. While in transition to making Quicken Deluxe 2014 my only financial software, I continue to us MS Money Plus Sunset (still free use from Microsoft). When I went to my online checking account to download the transaction date into Money, both transactions downloaded just even though they where identical. When I told Quicken to download the same transactions it would download ONLY one. For some reason it decided, apparently, because they were identical, there must have been an error or it just could "see" the other. There was no warning to me, the user, whatsoever. I would have happy with a warning, but nothing. I know this is perhaps a very unlikely situation for most to find themselves in, but Quicken should NOT be making any assumptions for the customer when downloading account information - it should pull ALL data down, not matter what.

Other than that, however, and having to tweak Quicken a bit to get it to show data they way I like to see it in MS Money, it works very well for how I use it. Currently, I am still using MS Money side-by-side with Quicken Deluxe 2014 to make sure both accounts show the same totals. So far, other than the duplicate purchased I mention, Quicken is every bit as accurate as my MS Money program.

For anyone wondering why I would change from MS Money to Quicken: Well, many credit card companies have started to drop their offering of direct downloads into MS Money, which means I have to input by hand.

1 out of 5 eggsYou'll be buying again in 3 years!

Pros: Works for what I needed.

Cons: I've owned quicken 2011 for almost 3 years and the software just advised me that it will no longer allow me to download online transactions after 3 years of using the software. I won't even be able to directly download transactions from my bank to my PC and then import them. Quicken will lock out any and all online services, even ones that don't use their server or updates. Would be nice if they put that on the front of the box when they sell it!!! They have a monopoly. If you buy this, be ready to purchase it again in 3 years even if you don't need it.

1 out of 5 eggsWill Not Be Buying Quicken Products

Pros: nothing refuse to install

Cons: wanted question answered by Quicken Tech before installation here's what happened: "Was using on line chat was number 3 in line. Wait was to be 15 minutes, reasonable. When I got to number 1 in line with 11 minute wait, again reasonable. After 30 minutes into an 11 minute wait, no longer reasonable. Will not be purchasing Quicken Deluxe 2013 or 2014 now. I will also not be purchasing the new version of turbo tax this year. If you don't want to do chats do not offer them. There are plenty of tax software programs available, so no biggie here. I will revert to using Excel to do my checking and savings accounts now. Just had one question to ask. Too bad you dropped the program". If this is how their support is handled I'm glad I did not open the software. It will now be returned for a full refund. I will also advise family and friends not to purchase Quicken products.

Other Thoughts: It's a shame as I've used Turbo Tax and Quicken since early 1990's. Sign of times everyone wants your money and nothing in return. Like others have said before; if I could give it 0 (zero) eggs I would. Too bad won't help us out on it.

5 out of 5 eggszippy

Pros: I like the program. Many improvements have been made through the years. I've owned Quicken for over 10 years and the check register is much faster to fill and the split category is fast too.

Cons: Takes more time to set up if not going online.
