Pros: Can do 5 federal returns and 1 state, but not the e-file on state. Watch out for this! I guess the pro is that I can deduct the extra 20 dollars as tax prep costs....Any additional state returns cost 35 dollars plus another 20 to e-file.

Cons: Thought I would save money here, but it's better to file online. This product won't file the state return, just prepare it. If I had known that I would have done the same thing I usually do and use the turbo tax for federal online and used that to file with my state online for free.

Cons: Misleading product - charges $20 to e-file state return. Should be called federal & 1/2 state. I think it intentionally misleads the consumer so that they can force additional charges when you reach the file stage.

Cons: Turbotax changed their products this year, so they rope you into buying premier for 30 more bucks. Made the mistake of buying their software this year.... wont happen again.

Pros: Worked the same for me as in years past (great), and because I needed deductions for my home business and used deluxe last year, I was upgraded for free (within the program) to Home and Business. This version gets you Federal, Federal E-File, and State, but you will have to pay extra to e-file the state. If you don't want to do that, you can still print your state return and mail it yourself. This is no different than in previous years.

The Newegg download process was easy. I received the email link shortly after my card was charged and the download took only seconds (approx. 116MB). I plan on buying it this way again next year.

Cons: Didn't make my income 100% tax-free.

Other Thoughts: With all of the scandal regarding the hidden price increases, I was tempted to switch to their leading competitor. But thanks to the scandal, which led to free in-program upgrades (if you used deluxe last year and needed a higher version this year), and a Newegg markdown and e-blast code, it ended up costing me half of what it cost me last year, which was a no-brainer.

Pros: TurboTax makes tax prep easy - especially since I used it last year. It imports my last year's return and shows me a comparison with the current year as I go and it remembers all my efiling routing numbers. Nice! Newegg has the lowest price I found anywhere. I also like having the data in my PC, not on Intuit's servers. That's why I buy this downloadable version instead of using their online service.

Cons: This was my first time buying downloadable software from Newegg. It works, but it's been tacked on to their product-shipping business. After you pay, there's nothing about how to download the product. Look for THOSE instructions in an email that will arrive in about 10 minutes. Just understand what to expect and you'll be OK.

Other Thoughts: 1. Be sure to get the right version (Windows vs. Mac) before coming to this page.
2. Intuit did a money grab this year (in the words of their CEO's apology) by having some features require a more expensive version. That blew up on them as you can find online. They promise that next year will be as it always was, and this year they'll give you a free upgrade if you need those features.
3. Understand what you're getting. The software PREPARES Federal returns for up to 5 people. (I share the software with my son). It will eFILE those Federal returns for free. But it PREPARES only one state return. And it will charge you to eFILE it with the state. I let it efile my Federal return. I then print and mail my state return, avoiding their efiling fee. My son is on his own to prepare and file his state return manually.

Pros: I have been using Turbo Tax Deluxe for a number of years for my personal taxes. I have an unincorporated consulting business with some modest office equipment, and TurboTax has helped me manage those tax details very well. So my taxes are probably moderate complexity. Unless you choose otherwise, it takes you through a series of questions for each aspect of taxes that pretty well leads you to capture the right information, and it updates the completed form as you do. This is pretty straightforward, if somewhat tedious. You can just go though an fill in forms if you want. It also checks over the forms, and includes federal efiling.

Cons: This year TurboTax made a change in the programs. It no longer lets you complete any tax forms with Deluxe, for example. Things like a business or investment income now require more expensive versions (Premiere or Home and Business). I called to complain, and TurboTax gave me a free upgrade from Deluxe to Home and Business as it now requires for my tax forms. So the company is taking care of users this year since that requirement was pretty much hidden until one started to complete taxes after purchasing. However, next year I assume I will be forced to select the higher priced product. To me, it is already a fairly expensive product for what I want to spend on tax preparation, so I may look at other programs next year.

Cons: Turbo tax will try to charge you to file state even though this program is supposed to have state included. Turbo tax support is NO HELP, they DO NOT BACK UP THE PRODUCT.

Other Thoughts: This is very poor business practice by Turbo Tax.
