Nero 12 Platinum

Pros: Does everything with ease with Windows 8 64bit. Very user friendly. Installs on all your machines multiple times without hassle using the keycode. I am a Nero fan.

Cons: Vista 32bit does not work as well with all features.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend to all users novice and expert.

Pros: Purchased it directly from Nero as an upgrade from version 10 Platinum, so it only cost me $30 back in December. That is about all that is a Pro about it.

Cons: Very Slow. Some things were improved from ver 10 to 12. It loads a little faster than ver 10 does. I am in the process of converting my CD's to MP3. With ver 10, it takes 7 minutes to convert an entire CD to MP3 and saving it onto my HD. With ver 12, and I am not exaggerating here folks, it takes 9 Hours and 18 minutes to convert a CD. I thought there was a problem, so I converted another CD, it took 9 Hours and 12 minutes. I then uninstalled ver 12 and installed ver 10, converted the same 2 CD's, they each took 7 minutes each.

Other Thoughts: I am disappointed that Nero is having all these issues. Well, all good things must come to an end. Thankfully I did not pay full price for it as I would really be upset.

Pros: None

Cons: The software does not work at all. I reinstalled Nero 8 which works flawlessly, while Nero 12 won't even recognize my DVD drive. Terrible software and my last purchase of a Nero product.

Other Thoughts: Avoid this software, even if it is free. Terrible!

Pros: Burner software works, but then it is most likely the same software since version 8 that came out in 2008. All the other Kwik media stuff is an odd way of doing things and it just does not work right.

Cons: If you want to troubleshoot a program that has been out for at least a year buy this one.

Other Thoughts: Their telephone support system is billed at 1.29 per minute. I assume by time you give the code and your address and describe the problem you will be out at least the cost of a different product. Their email system is send wait days, respond wait days.

Pros: Actually free is to much. They should have to pay me for wasting my time.

Cons: Everything, so far I haven't found anything that worked. It will play a blue ray if the planets are aligned - well maybe. Have not successfully burned a disc yet. I had no problems with Nero 11 (should have stuck with it) and same discs. Then only thing that has changed is the software.

Other Thoughts: Don't bother with Nero tech support

Pros: Good editing tools. Works with more media formats than most. Good control with burning discs.

Cons: Needed updates before paid for software would even work the first time. Poor service for corporate employees stuck behind strict firewalls.

Other Thoughts: Right out of the box the Blu-ray software needed an update. That program would not even work once without it. In order to update you have to use the Nero Control Center, which is an absolute nightmare if you are working behind a strict firewall. I asked for a direct download link for the blu-ray player software and was given a link for the whole suite, which still needed an update to the blu-ray player for it to work. Because of this, I have been unable to work with blu-rays in any form, which is the primary reason I bought the program.

The parts that installed are working fine, but the fact that part of the suite needed an update before it would even start that program once has left a horribly negative impression.

Pros: Have not really found much... works on Win 7?

Cons: Not intuitive. Complicated. Poor support.

Other Thoughts: I had a full version of v8 and it was great. Did everything I needed, always worked and was intuitive... so when I upgraded to Win 7, the new version of Nero was the natural choice. Don't waste you're money expecting it to be an improved version of the older software. Nero 12 is a pathetic redesign of a great software package. It is complex and unintuitive. Simple tasks like removing commercial from recorded video have been "automated" to a pont where it's useless and unuseable. Recoode fails 75% of the time, especially if you try to recode more than 1 thing without rebooting.
I contacted support because I could not figure out the video editing and their response was a link to the user manual (which is what made no sense and led me to contact support).
Nero is trying to be everything to everyone, but the result is a product that is in effect, closer to nothing. At the upgrade price of (I think) $39 it was a total waste of money. At $129 I'd be demanding my money back.
Looking for a new software package that does what it needs to without all the useless baggage... With all the oddly named sub-programs in Nero, it's tough just to find what you need (what would one expect Nero Kwik Media to do??)
After the responses from support, I am trying to get reviews out there so people don't expect the same simplicity and quality of the older versions, only to be disappointed by this poor attempt at an upgrade.

Pros: Does what it should eventually.

Cons: It won't work right out of the box and requires a 250mb update. You cannot dowload the updates from their website to a thumbdrive, you have to go through their software to do it. If you have a slow internet connection you have to pay an additional $12.99 for an update disk. I confirmed this with Nero. So much for product support.

Pros: Ability to schedule several tasks in Recode.

Cons: Blue Ray player crashes. Full screen mode immediately freezes my computer requiring Alt+Ctl+Del to end process. Major stability issues even if I dont go to full screen. Recode is a major disaster. Gone is ability to simply recognize VIDEO_TS folder as DVD folder, even though the same folder is easily recognized by Recode from Nero 7 Ultra. Recode lost the ability to quickly compress VIDEO_TS over 4.7 GB in size to smaller sizes, fitting single layer DVD. To do so, now you have to go through Nero Video then built and reencode entire DVD. This takes hours. Recoding DVD files to formats and sizes fitting my iPod takes hours now. Recode from Nero 7 Ultra was able to accomplish this task in a fraction of a time it takes Nero 12 to do the same thing. I am dismayed and saddened.

Other Thoughts: I have previously bought versions, 7 Ultra, 9, 10 Platinum and now 12 Platinum. Each one of these previous versions, worked well for me (although 9 did not support Blu ray playback). I wish I could ask for refund.

Pros: Great interface with Windows 8, Plays well

Cons: A little high price ... thanks to newegg got it at a decent sale price
