5 out of 5 eggsVery good, stable, only slightly annoying

Pros: My appreciation for Vista skyrocketed during the setup of my new system. I was having serious stability problems with my new 3ware 9650SE RAID controller and my GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DQ6 motherboard. I finally determined that the motherboard BIOS default setting for the PCI Express clock is set to "AUTO" which apparently means that it could change between 140 MHz and 60 MHz. Not a good idea, folks. Set it at the designed standard 100 MHz and forget it. Vista was able to work around several RAID controller resets, and other funkiness.
Media Center is very cool.

Cons: Price
UAC is silly.
Updates seem to spoon feed you stuff when it thinks it would like to give you stuff. I could swear I hit "Check for Updates" until there were no more updates. Then the next day it wanted to install Service Pack 1 (which was released months before). Huh? Service Pack 1 would not install. So I had to reinstall Vista and all my apps.

Other Thoughts: Sytem: Vista 64 Home Premium, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DQ6, G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 SDRAM, 3ware 9650SE-8LPML RAID Card, 3ware BBU-MODULE-03 Battery Backup Unit, Seagate ST3640323AS 7200.11 640GB Hard Drives (4 in RAID 5), PALiT NE/9600T+0152 GeForce 9600 GT 512MB

1 out of 5 eggsJust a Joke

Pros: Looks better than XP supports DX10 other than that...NOTHING

Cons: driver support still lacking. I bought vista in May2007 it March 2008. Vista hasen't run more than 30 days without requiring a reinstall. My vista, once it has all the updates, shows up as Home Premium Beta. I called Microsoft and they said it was suppose to(I think thats what they said but the support people are nearly impossible to understand). SP1 still isn't out 32bit Doesn't support 4 gigs of ram(only 3.25) 64bit doesn't support internet, sound or video cards... Media Player stops responding constantly

Other Thoughts: Save the trouble...wait for SP1...should be out soon
Athlon 64 X2 4800+ OC 2.8 Ghz 4 gigs ram(3.25 in Vista) HD 2900gt OC 790/1100 Core/Mem 200gig Hard Drive

5 out of 5 eggsNot Nervous Anymore!

Pros: Well I'm Back from my 3-6-2008 Review, and I tell you what. This was the easiest built/Upgrade I have ever done to Date and I've done quite a few for family members, those were with XP though. You can read my review on 3-6-2008 to see what I did and with what. I am a Real Happy Camper! VISTA IS Real Nice. Glad I waited for awhile. Nows the time to Switch People......JUST DO IT!

Cons: Sorry XP.....There are none! I'm going to Fiddle around some more....SEE YA!

5 out of 5 eggsVista is Excellent

Pros: Windows Vista is *the* best operating system that microsoft has created to date. It has far better looks, security, and supports DX10. I'm glad I made the switch.

Cons: There is a performance drop (like any OS upgrading. . . such as from windows 98 to XP). You will need a better computer to keep up.

Other Thoughts: Microsoft has received a LOT of undeserved negative publicity on Vista, with a lot of it being driven by the marketing department of Mac. I'd suggest you learn more about Vista before you listen to people that tell you not to get it. It its a LOT more secure than XP, and I'm not just talking about the (somewhat annoying) UAC. If any of you are on the fence about buying Vista, I recommend trying it out or talking to a friend that actually has it before deciding not to buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsAlittle Nervous.....

Pros: I've worked and seen Vista on others computers. I got the Full blown Version here because I want Microsofts full support, reading the nightmare stories has made me abit nervous. Will be complete with build this weekend and crossing my fingers bigtime. The new look is amazing and I can only hope that I don't live in one of those nightmares. Hope the Lan Drivers work so I can download all updated drivers from web sites.

Cons: Not knowing if it's going to be a Dream Come True or a Nightmare on Elm Street.

Other Thoughts: Build is - Gigabyte 770 AM2+, AthlonX2 4800+, 3 Gigs G-Skill DDR 800, Sapphire HD 2600XT, WD 160 Sata II HD, ZeroTherm BTF90 CPU Cooler, re-using Sapphire TheaterX 550 Pro, Chieftec Full Tower, Apevia 520 watt PS, Optorite DVD/r, Optorite Combo, Sony 3.5 Floppy, ViewSonic 20.1 "X" Series LCD (First Generation), Atech Flash Pro 28-in-1 internal card reader, HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One Printer, and a whole lot of LUCK...

4 out of 5 eggsOS is getting better

Pros: I have had this OS for a while and not having any more compatability issues. I really like the look to vista and it seems to be set up pretty well.

Cons: This this is a hardware hog. If your a gamer, you just better hope you have the best of the best hardware or pretty close to it. Also remember this is the 32 bit version. You can only have a maximum of 3 gigs of ram.

Other Thoughts: I had to rebuild my computer because it was just too slow with vista. I was able to get ahold of Microsoft and they gave me a new key. I told them I had to rebuild my sys. because their OS is such a hog.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: Nice new look, installed very very smooth. Took maybe 30 minutes?

Cons: Only con I had was it didn't work with nod32 version 2.5, or my sound card

Other Thoughts: I bought this OS for my first computer build, I was really shocked when it went so smooth. The actual process of building a computer contained many trial and errors for me. I'm telling you the feeling after spending all that money, and time into your first build to turn on your computer for the first time and it works just fine....best feeling I've had in a while.

Also I wish more things in life were like newegg. When they say 3 day delivery I'm telling you Windows Vista was at my door in 3 days, I will definitely shop with newegg for my next custom build.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best Windows yet, but a bit too user-friendly.

Pros: Installation with with an ASUS P5E, Optical SATA, and SATA Hard Disk was so simple. I didn't need a floppy drive or flash drive or anything. It was as simple as putting the DVD in and waiting for it to boot up. Even the setup program was clean and clear compared to WinXP's. Aero makes all of your window frames translucent and opaque and overall very pleasing to the eye. Being able to search for files or folders right from the Start Menu is very handy.

Cons: As technology marches on, Windows takes more and more control away from the user. This can be very frustrating if you're trying to troubleshoot. User Account Control can be VERY annoying when initially starting up your fresh install, but this can be disabled with a little bit of exploring. If you're unsure of what I mean, refer to the Mac commercial with the Secret Service guy. Some drivers and software still hasn't been updated for Vista, but that's not Vista's fault. If you're a gamer, you can still run quite a few games on this OS. Don't worry, your world won't cave in on you if you install Vista.

Other Thoughts: The more I use Vista, the more I'm beginning to like it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone running anything slower than a Pentium 4 at the moment since it's very RAM/CPU intensive. I gave it 5

4 out of 5 eggsLike it alot

Pros: Good operating system. I have had it for about a year now and I have not had any problems other than a few glitches here and ther. Nothing not to expect with a new operating system. Look how long XP took to get good...2 service packs. Anyways I would recomend it to anyone looking to upgrade.

Cons: Just a few buggy spots in the system but no huge deal.

Other Thoughts: Got this on a new laptop and came to like it. Am planning to put this on my new build im doing...besides its DX10, its where everythings going and dont wanna be left out.

5 out of 5 eggsI shouldn't have waited

Pros: Easy installation. Intuitive use. Strong performance. Some advantages out of box: built-in antispam, better interface, some new file system improvements. Looks good -- but not as different as I'd expected.

Cons: None so far. I had expected driver problems or setup problems but I haven't had any yet. The security pop-ups are a little annoying but not so much that I've disabled them yet.

Other Thoughts: I've owned Vista for about a year now -- came with new laptop -- but have been waiting to upgrade from XP. I thought now was the time in anticipation of SP1 next month. I've been impressed with Vista so far. I shouldn't have waited.
