- Pros: Visually it looks better and smarter at converting different languages. On office 2003, many time you need to convert the language manually so you can read foreign text. I haven't really tried anything else so I cannot comment.
- Cons: Outlook is very slow. First thing I recommend is to install SP1 service pack. It speeds everything up but still slower than the older office, especially with PST files larger than 3 gigs. The SP1 update really improves office and highly recommended. Now the speed difference between offices 07 and 03 like windows XP and windows vista.
- Other Thoughts: Haven't really excel and work. I really hope you can hide more cells in excel which was my largest complaint. Yes, the amount hidded does max out. I'll give it 4 stars with SP1 and 2 stars without.
Cheaper than Office Standard 2007
- Pros: "Small Busines" version is cheaper than the "Standard Edition" with more software. It adds business contact manager and Publisher and the Accounting.
- Cons: For some this is just more confusion and bloat-ware, but you can opt to not install the extras. Also it has the new "ribbon" GUI, but then, it's "MS's world, they just let us live in it."
- Other Thoughts: I notice buying Word and Excel a la carte is pretty close to this price which has Power Point etc. Also avoid the OEM and 3 License medialess versions. You save no money but gain grief. This keeps it simple.
Swing and Miss
- Pros: New Office has a sleek look with a much more icon based menu system. I suppose it's a great idea if you can't read. . . Publisher and PowerPoint are easier to use in general. It's easier to access some features. There are some new features including more compact (but incompatible) file formats.
- Cons: I use Excel and Word most frequently and find them frustrating to use. It is time consuming to locate many functions even after using the software for about a year. Older versions of the software built on previous generations, and were organized logically. 2007 looks nice, but is a chore to use, especially if you want to use a range of features.
- Other Thoughts: I would consider alternative software before purchasing. We had to uninstall this and go back to the old Office for our office manager who got very upset because the software was so difficult to learn. I don't use Outlook very much.
