It's still Microsoft
- Pros: It's MS Office. It's what everyone is compatible with and most people know how to use. It does have some nice enhancements over the earlier version.
- Cons: It's Microsoft. It's still Microsoft software. You still get bugs and security holes that need to be fixed with every MS product. It's still MS.
- Pros: The price was great. Delivery was fast. Daughter needed for school.
- Cons: All Microsoft Software is expensive. It was the only one with Access.
Good upgrade from 2003
- Pros: Unlike Vista, this can easily run on my girlfriends old cruddy laptop.
New interface takes some getting use to, but dont worry, the learning curve isnt too long. Overall, the new interface is an improvement and lets me write documents or do other things generally quicker.
OneNote is AWESOME! I love the idea of just hitting (window key) + n and writting a quick note. Also, the (window) + s allows you to take a screen shot of anything on your computer screen (i use to have to use PrintScreen button, then paste into Word, then crop the image as needed). I hope office 14's OneNote allows online storage of your notes and automatic syncing between computers.
- Cons: The price is pretty rediculouse.
Groove has very limited compatibility with 64bit, specifically, it cannot do file sharing on your computer (but still has the online workspace thing). Office 14's Groove will fix this. So for now, I like to use Live Mesh to share and collaberate folders with my friends. However, Live Mesh doesnt have any versioning control, so beware.
Overall, I dont like that Office is 32bit only (even though it works in 64bit OS for the most part). Office 14 will offer 32bit and 64bit versions, which is great. Honestly, I wish they would just release 64bit version and force everyone to jump on the 64bit bandwaggon.
- Other Thoughts: I wish there was some way Microsoft could charge different prices for home users and office users. Office users should pay a thousand dollars for this software, because it greatly increases their work efficiency. However, home users should never pay more than a hundred dollars for any piece of software. Your better off getting OpenOffice.org or using Google docs or something. Luckly for me, I was able to get Office for free from my student subscriptions, internship at microsoft, and my MSDN subscription.
