Features
Windows Vista Home Basic is the operating system for homes with basic computing needs. It is easy to set up, it helps you use your PC more securely and reliably, and like all of the editions of Windows Vista, it is compatible with the widest range of software, devices, and services that you use and trust. If you simply want to use your PC for tasks such as surfing the Internet, corresponding with friends and family using e-mail, or performing basic document creation and editing tasks, then Windows Vista Home Basic will deliver a safer, more reliable, and more productive computing environment.

In addition to all previously released updates, SP1 contains changes focused on addressing specific reliability and performance issues, supporting new types of hardware, and adding support for several emerging standards. SP1 also continues to make it easier for IT administrators to deploy and manage Windows Vista. Service Packs are not intended to be a vehicle for releasing significant new features or functionality; however some existing components do gain slightly enhanced functionality in SP1 to support industry standards and new requirements.

5 out of 5 eggsOK

Pros: A few bucks cheaper than its non-Basic cousin.

Cons: Fewer features. Doesn't come with Media Center.

Other Thoughts: I bought this version because I am waiting for Windows 7 to hit shelves.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's vista

Pros: Installed without issues.

Cons: It's Vista. Went with Vista for 3 reasons. 1. I'm not going to be the user. (for visiting relatives to use) 2. It is not going end of life yet. 3. Windows & isn't out yet.

It

Other Thoughts: I'm disappointed with Newegg again.

This is my second order where my credit card was instantly charged and absolutely no email notificationsfrom Newegg regarding my order. NONE! My parts are here, system is built , and I haven't had a single email from Newegg regarding my order.

I'm still waiting for the fantastic Newegg ordering experience I read about in the reviews. Processing by Newegg and shipping are average at best, taking a full week for my order to arrive from the day I placed my order. Prices are usually the best around though.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very quick and easy installation. OS is ideal for what I do with my computer, mainly just web browsing and email, for this its performance is very high. The price is reasonable as well.

4 out of 5 eggsI like it

Pros: I have always been a tweaker from the first days of lapping a pent 90 to get it a little cooler to O/C with a hand carved heatsink to todays goodies and other then a rough start like any new software has I have nothing bad to say about Vista anymore I was a die hard XP fan and while there is still nothing wrong with XP I can honestly say there is no reason to be afraid of Vista.

Cons: Its hard to give a con about software since none ever come out at 100% working especially an OS.This was the only reason I didnt give it a 5 of 5 if it came out the way it works now it would've gotten a 5.

3 out of 5 eggsVista has bugs

Pros: This has brilliant pictures you can use. It's bigger, wider.

Cons: Full of bugs. back buttons don't work. Screen jumps around. Etc.
More text to explain the same things as in previous Windows.

Other Thoughts: I like Vista. I have been using Home Basic. There's much more to it than Win XP.
