3 out of 5 eggsWorked well for what it was.

Pros: It worked.

Cons: It isn't Windows 7, which turned out to be better.

5 out of 5 eggsWindows Vista is always a very, very good Operating System.

Pros: vista is cool. i learn more of it everyday, since it launched. i just want to keep on using it.

Cons: there's nothing wrong with Windows operating systems.

Other Thoughts: The oem version is totally worth to get, and i also have a full version, of hp ver., and there is no special difference. With the oem, u r supposed to keep it on one machine, where u can move the full version vista os to any machine, at any time. Recommended, A++.

5 out of 5 eggsVista's finally matured and is now a great OS.

Pros: Much needed updated interface, better utilization of resources than Windows XP and other operating systems, DirectX 10/11 support, service packs 1 and 2 corrected the bugs people complained about.

Cons: System requirements are a little steep, but we live in an era when you can get 4GB of RAM for a couple of Andrew Jacksons. Sadly Vista is being ditched by Microsoft because of whiners. What a shame.

Other Thoughts: Vista is a huge improvement over XP. It looks a lot sleeker and cleaner, gives better performance and graphics in gaming (thanks to DirectX 10 being exclusive), and is overall a truly modern OS. Go waste a couple thousand on a Mac for its OS if you want to, but I think I'll stick with all of those features and more for under a Benjamin.

3 out of 5 eggsXP is better, but decided to go with Vista

Pros: I chose this over Windows XP because I knew that Microsoft would not be supporting it much longer. I am upset about that, but at the same time I have to move on...

Good operating system, but it would be nice if more hardware and software was compatible with it. I wanted to use this, because I knew that the 64-bit version had even more compatibility issues.

Cons: First of all...the RAM limit...I do not do much besides video and sound editing (the editing I work on is not very advanced), and internet, but as someone mentioned earlier, 4 GB maximum for RAM is a little low. Some people work with advanced programs that require much more RAM than 4 GB.

Also, because my video camera does not have a FireWire port, I use the Dazzle by Pinnacle to transfer all of my video to the computer..It is compatible with Windows XP, however not with Vista. I have another computer running XP, however it would be nice if it worked with Vista.

4 out of 5 eggsMy first Windows

Pros: I'm coming from a certain other experience that starts with an "M" and rhymes with Macintosh. I had friends in high school with Windows boxes in various states of disrepair who would always talk about something called the "BIOS", so I said to get a Mac, so they threatened to beat me up, so I stood down. In college I discovered that I wasn't the only one who thought Macs were good, and pretty much developed an anti-Windows stance.

After a few-year-long flirtation with Linux, I ended up getting Vista to play a stupid time-sink game that I never really wanted to play anyway, and was pleasantly surprised. It looks nice and works OK and there are low-footprint solutions to Windows's virus problem. I'm actually really impressed with the boot-up time, which I've been horrified by with friends's XP boxes. The stench of bureaucracy that pervades the user experience is tolerable. Then again, it could be that I'm older and less idealistic....

Cons: Memory issue. I know that 32-bit Linux has the ability to address more than 4GB worth of space. Why in the world can't this OS? Granted, for most applications, 2GB is more than enough, but what a silly oversight. I don't want a million driver and software issues that come with the 64-bit edition - the whole reason I switched to Windows was compatibility.

Also, I just feel the whole interface is talking down to me. "What do you want to do? Browse the internet, Connect to a network, More info...." I drive a stick-shift car. I build my own computers. I have a job with a learning curve. I do not need to feel like I'm flipping through forms at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles or swimming around in some automated customer service answering system when all I'm trying to do is burn a CD. Even users who think the CD tray is a cupholder - *they* deserve better.
