2 out of 5 eggsShipping sucks

Pros: good OS.

Cons: Shipping from anywhere for this is idiotic...

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure why I went ahead and bought this through newegg. The OS isn't bad, NewEgg has been smooth with the transaction outside of personal issue's with bank.. Don't bother buying this if you can go to a local geek store and get it.. it's quicker, and it's going to be cheaper ( shipping charges may apply.)

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't live up to expectations

Pros: It is the Windows operating system

Cons: Activation code ran out. This was supposed to work on multiple processors and doesn't. Took the same hard drive, upgraded my computer to an I5 and now the activation code doesn't work. About hourly now I get a message saying that I need to activate it but it won't let me and says that the software isn't genuine.

Other Thoughts: Specifically paid extra- nearly twice- to get the version that can be installed on multiple processors since I knew I'd upgarde my hardware eventually.

5 out of 5 eggsGet it before its gone

Pros: This is the last windows full retail , that can always be installed on a new computer when the old MB dies. Comes with Media Center.

Cons: Pricey but over time you'll save money instead of buying a new OEM copy every time you upgrade/replace hardware.

Other Thoughts: I have not tried windows 8, and probably won't. I use Media Center as a free HDTV recorder. No DVR/Tivo fees.

5 out of 5 eggsNice upgrade

Pros: Nice upgrade from XP, a little different, but not a challenge to work with, just need time to find where everything is.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Will go to Windows 8 when the first Service Pack is released, so I can use touch. Give my arthritic fingers a rest.

4 out of 5 eggsA necessary evil

Pros: 64 bit application and memory support.

Canon scanner support under 64 bit (after much searching for driver upgrade).

Retail version "allows" you to move OS to a newer system down the road.

Cons: Retail price!
That feeling that you are been held hostage not only by Microsoft but by certain hardware companies (Canon-CanoScan scanner support).

EULA (All your rights belong to us.)

Other Thoughts: I have been building my own desktop systems for a number years. I continued to maintain a few systems built with OEM Windows XP 32 bit versions mainly to run all the Office software, games and hardware for which I paid considerable money. I purchased Windows 7 Home in February 2012 for a new build with hopes of using the Canon scanner. I have a lifetime of photos/negatives/slides to digitize.
I'm a 90% daily Linux user, however Canon offers no Linux support for my scanner.
As I said; a necessary evil. I expect to use this retail version for the duration the the Windows 7 Lifecycle and beyond.

There could be a huge market for hardware manufacturers willing to support Linux.
