Its almost a no-brainer
- Pros: Includes both 32 and 64 bit editions. Has everything Home Premium has plus XP mode (which is VERY useful). Ships with DirectX 11. Windows Media Center (with ClearQAM support). Fast, snappy, and responsive. Nothing beats it.
Also, I haven't had one BSoD and I've been using the RTM since September (through MSDNAA)
- Cons: Now that I think about it, there is nothing I'd really change about Windows 7. RAM usage is moderate with 700-900mb idle and usually 1.4-1.7 under moderate multitasking (7 IE8 tabs, WMP, and 3 MS word documents gives you 1.3 GB).
- Other Thoughts: Windows 7 is the best OS to be released by Microsoft so far. I believe that it has topped XP mainly because it can do everything XP can do (with XP mode) plus everything that Vista could do. Not only can Windows 7 do everything, but it does it very well. The new taskbar is great and so are the jumplists. Theres nothing I'd change about it at all.
I will be using Windows 7 x64 for a very long time and I hope you all will too!
ps. Windows 7 Professional doesn't turn on the games (like Solitare) automatically. You need to turn them on yourself. To do this, go to Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows Features On & Off. Now select games and you're all set! Enjoy!
Windows 7 runs absolutely perfect under both of these specs:
Desktop: Windows 7 Professional x64 Gigabyte GA-EG45M-UD2H mobo Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 @ 2.6GHz 4 GB RAM DDR2-800 MSi HD4650 (DX10)
Laptop: Windows 7 Professional x86 Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 @ 2.0GHz 2 GB DDR2-667 Intel GMA X3100 (DX9)
Best OS... ever
- Pros: Absolutely beautiful interface, no more ugly XP stuff for me. Almost all drivers are taken care of, very speedy install. Aero Snap is amazing, performance is blazing. This installs easily onto my cutting edge rig, and onto my aging(2002) dell laptop. Runs equally well on both.
- Cons: Some manufacturers/tech providers drivers aren't available through windows update just yet, but not Microsofts fault.
- Other Thoughts: I have been using the beta, RC1, and RTM. No problems with any of them. Do wish more game makers would go 64bit to utilize all of my ram instead of crashing out... *cough-wow-cough*

Vista done right!
- Pros: I have had RTM for awhile which explains for my 1 month to 1 year ownership. I bought windows 7 pro retail because I knew I would not have any problems with it. I fell in love with RTM so I knew windows 7 pro was gonna be the exact same.
All in all I am glad I purchased it! Its a wonderful operating system.
- Cons: None!
- Other Thoughts: Just like the tag line says on this review. It is vista done right! Win 7 has the stability of XP with the eye candy of vista. It is the next successor to windows XP. It has wonderful memory management and even HDD management. Pick this up as soon as possible you won't regret it!
Not so good - at all
- Pros: windows xp emulator.
driver issues are a lot less of a problem than when vista launched. Installation was easier than Vista.
- Cons: Too many to list all of them....
control panel is almost non existent - windows 7 has been dumbed down to the point of being near useless. still a resource hog. better than vista, but that is like comparing hepatitis and Ebola. good luck finding the run menu and brining up a command prompt. Still has the stupid pop up user "allow or deny", though it is easily turned off. GUI is fisher price worthy. Stupid expensive. After gouging us for XP and Vista they have the nerve to keep gouging us. The XP pro that i bought had a license for 2 desktops and a Laptop. W7 only allows for 1 pc on the user agreement.
- Other Thoughts: by trying to make a product simple enough for everyone to use, MS made a heap of uselessness no one can use.
with time i may come to like this, but right now i want to punch a babies in the head just to make sure they don't grow up to build a software empire.
my biggest complaint is the 1 pc user agreement. when i spent the money on XP, i was allowed to install on a laptop and 2 pcs (all of which were mine) which helped to offset the cost....
I am hoping that this will grow on me and i will become less bitter for having spent the money
not all fun and games
- Pros: workes great and easier to move around.
- Cons: some hardware or software aren't able to run on windows 7.
- Other Thoughts: make sure you write eveything down that you have on your old computer so you won't have a problem adding them later. oh yea !! back up your music and pic's. its always good to partion your hard drive. one for programs and other for pic's and music.
