nice, nice, nice!
- Pros: Everything Vista SHOULD have been. I installed this on an old socket 370 board with a Pentium 4 HT and 2 GB of PC 3200 and it runs great! No issues! OS demand on system resources are noticibly reduced. Almost all of my old XP compliant devices work with 7. I can't say that about my Vista machines.
- Cons: Vista's outdated already?! Don't get me wrong, I like Vista, but 7 is so much better. I wish MS would have not launched Vista. I could have waited for 7.
- Other Thoughts: ...so I pushed my old XP machines into the back of the closet because they couldn't run Vista (at least not properly) and I bought or built computers a million times more powerful than NASA used to run the Apollo missions. Along comes Windows 7 with less requirements and less of a demand on system resources. I could have saved thousands of dollars in hardware (sorry newegg) if they had COME OUT WITH THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE! This better be it for a while, I'm not buying another OS for a long time!
NOT SO FAST!!!
- Pros: product is more stable the previous version (vista). loads less junk seems to be "self aware" nice interface great new graphics layouts loads of hidden things to hack into.
- Cons: service pack 1 is due by end of this year. very few manufacturers support the "old school" tried and true hardware. SOME wont even bother! generic drivers appear to raise havoc with some other things. sleep/hibernate seems to still be an issue for many. according to most forums this seems to apply to a specific mb maker. seems upgrade fom XP to W7 can be done BUT takes HOURS. still only supports 3Gb of ram you can search microsoft "windows memory limits" to see this.
- Other Thoughts: sadly i jumped the gun on this thing and went with the hype.
my asus p5l vm 1394 appears to hate this software. yes its an older board but it works just fine and i dont have the luxury of dropping about $1500 just cause bill gates has a new toy out. another reviewer said linux is free but how many are willing to read a book and LEARN it. i have read how easy it is to hack this with full W.G.A. validation and never activate it. THINK ABOUT THAT!! for the time being im sticking to XP at least until the next great thing comes along in 2012. hunt down the "hidden" passwords think you are alone??
Win 7
- Pros: Good price and great delivery.
- Cons: None
