Pros: Very fast system, data transfer is faster than 32 bit, OEM but you can still upgrade any part and that includes motherboard just need to call microsoft to the number they give you and tell them and they wil reactivate it for you, alot of eye candy that actually works, Makes XP look bad and works ALOT better
Cons: Cant make a system image for hard drive failure but thats why you get pro or ulitimate.
Other Thoughts: To the person that keeps saying you cant upgrade motherboards he needs to learn that you can. call the 1-800 number they give you and they will reactivate it for you. I am on my second mb now using this as i went from am2+ to an am3 mb took a whole 5 minutes to call and get a new number wasnt even on hold.

Excellent OS

Pros: THIS is what Vista should have been. I am running W7x64 and loving it. This is the first time I've gone to a 64-Bit OS, have been too hesitant previously.
The OS is very slick & very fast on moderate hardware. I am running an Intel i3-530 on 4GB RAM an using the on-cpu video at the moment. This scores me a 4.9 on the rating, due to on-board CPU video.
I have not installed any games yet, waiting until I get my new video card, but all of my other pre-existing software is working & fully functional:
Even older hardware that I could not find W7 drivers for (let alone x64 versions) is also working fine, most notably my tiny Sony DPP-FP30 photo printer.
Cons: um... maybe they should give an extra discount to people with a valid Vista license?
Other Thoughts: I have been building my own systems for 15 years now, and have always purchased the OEM version of Windows & have this time as well. You can change any of the hardware you want to, it does not matter. If too much hardware changes or you need to swap out the Mobo, it will require you to re-activate the license. This is no big deal as long as you call the number and TELL THEM THE OLD HARDWARE DIED. Do NOT say you upgraded, as this will then leave the decision up to that particular rep as to whether or not to re-activate you. A hardware failure & replacement REQUIRES them to renew your license & activate it for you.

Just a Clarification

Pros: Great OS.
Cons: N/A
Other Thoughts: This review is just to clarify for people who are uncertain. You can buy this OEM version of Win7 and install it on your new build with no problems or hassle. There is a lot of MS legalese written all over this product which is meant to discourage casual users from buying it. The primary difference between this OEM version and your retail version is that you cannot easily transfer this OS from one computer to another. If you buy this version, it will install, activate and run just like the retail version. The OPK kit which is mentioned by MS is NOT required; this is only needed if you intend to resell the computer as brand new after you have installed and configured Windows. There really is no reason for the average builder to pay for the retail version.

Pros: It works. Runs great on my new rig, and I'm loving the 64-bit experience.
First thought was "Win 7 is made of WIN!"
Cons: I have a bunch of thumb drives and external HDDs and on these I make a "Return to owner" batch (.bat) file so if I ever loose it, the people who find it get a DOS-style pop-up that tells them who it belongs to and how to get a hold of me. Win7 doesn't appear to support this.
Not a big enough deal to dock an egg, because lets face it: Nobody is gonna return it anyway.
Other Thoughts: My father-in-law is paying me to build him a computer, and I will be buying another copy of Win 7 - 64 bit for use on his rig, and be sending the disk to him when all's said and done.

I wasn't sure I'd get over XP--but I did

Pros: - Everything. Games run great, browsing the web feels great, and I was able to change the theme so it pretty much looks just like my XP setup (which I had customized to look like Windows 2000...)
Cons: - Cost...I'll never be comfortable with paying full price for operating systems since losing the student discounts I got in college...
Other Thoughts: - If you're going to dual-boot Windows XP and Windows 7, make sure you install Windows XP FIRST...otherwise it won't work.

Cons: none
Other Thoughts: I don't miss Ubuntu!
