Very Fast OS
- Pros: I didnt have to buy it, since the company I work for owns every volume license Microsoft has out. I am running Win 7 Enterprise 64 Bit (which is the same thing as Ultimate) and it is blowing away the XP build I upgraded from I skipped Vista. The interface is nice. it is a very light OS and does not require 4 + GB for a 64 bit was running 2 GB of Ghetto DDR2 800. I work for the IT department at our local Hospital and we have been running this for a while testing out the programs the hospital uses under XP with the XP compatibility pack and it rolls.
- Cons: OK this is not a con on the OS but Microsoft has to have the most brilliant people in their marketing department since this is actually a light version of Vista. we call it Vista light at work. They are the only company I know that can absolutely fail (some people did like Vista so dont get your undies in a bunch) then turn around and make a couple little changes and put out the same product under a different name and people are scooping it up. not knocking it just think its funny
- Other Thoughts: Here are my scores on the WEI
Processor (E7200 2.53ghz @ 3.7ghz) 6.9 Memory (4GB oif Ghetto DDR2 800) 6.9 Graphics (XFX GTS 250 512MB CE) 6.9 Gaming Graphics 6.9 Primary Hard Disk (WD Raptor 74GB) 5.9
Understand the low HDD score is cause it only tests data transfer rate not seek times. Seek times is where the Raptors are better
For those of you skeered to go from XP to this don't be, it is faster, smoother and games better than XP and I am a firm believer in XP so this will make you happy. for those who want to game on 360 hit me Big Pava
long overdue microsoft
- Pros: We got this edition through HouseParty. My wife (who is not tech savvy at all) had this OS installed running on her aging PC with no issues, she was happily showing me the aero features when I got home from work. I also have the W7 UltimateED RC running on my HTPC since June09 and it has had no issues or crashes just solid DVR multi-tasking. Try the start-button search, this is a shining "well-done". Thank you MS
Just read the requirements and follow the directions (5 steps of install interaction for us). Ohh, and it was really easy to set up wireless / home networking / home group (over XP that is). Total install (with the XP user settings imported) took 42 minutes.
For our aging PC's we choose to install 32bit OS, as we did not meet the requirements for 64bit.
- Cons: none. Change will come with a slight learning curve, for the better IMO.
- Other Thoughts: My wifes PC: 03' Shuttle XPC, Semperon 3000, 200GB sata2 seagate, 1.5gb pc3200 ram, GeForce 6600GT (AGP8X).
My HTPC: 04' Shuttle XPC, Ath64 4200, RAID0 160GB sata2 array, 1gb dualch pc3200, nforce 400+ chipset graphics accel, dual QAM tuner-card (DVR happy).
I have pre-odered W7 Ultimate to go onto my Dell Studio XPS 13" laptop (running Vista HP 64bit) as well.
I have a 08' macbook pro for sale, heck with apple and thier (you don't really own anything) EULA, not playing nice with other OS's, lack of hardware options, and over-priced everything. Don't worry- I will charge "new" price like every other mac owner would. iFrown !!

What Vista SHOULD'VE Been
- Pros: I wasn't sure what to expect, considering I'd never tried a 64-bit OS before. Immediately after wiping out Vista and putting on Win7, I noticed much of a speed increase. I mean, wow, it was like night and day. To be fair though, I had a few games on my Vista OS, had some other startup processes running which I don't have now, but I can remember how Vista did perform upon fresh installation. Not quite as good as 7. To me, Windows 7 performs as good as Windows XP did on the computer I bought 6-7 years ago. I had to do a few tweaks to it to get it how I liked it but that wasn't a problem.
- Cons: Now I wish Windows could be free, like Linux, or at least cheaper.
- Other Thoughts: I only have 2 GB of RAM on my computer and the 64-bit version works just fine. I plan on upgrading to 4 GB in a few months. It's nice to see a little bit more accurate WEI score for my computer, considering I was already maxing out with Vista's 5.9's.
It was my idea
- Pros: Installed flawlessly. the look and feel of Win7 is a fresh change from the old boring xp and vista look. So far no problems with drivers or software compatability although I didn't expect any since I was running the beta before this purchase.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: None
Worth the Upgrade
- Pros: I was using Vista for nearly 3 years(Beta), and this OS is far better in many ways. Just as others have said the GUI is fantastic, and the bootup is very fast.
I have 4 SSD Tourqx holding my OS in raid 0, not sure what the other guy has, but i would like to know. I boot in 14-18 sec from the moment my fingers touch the power button. I would like to know what you have to boot in 6sec. Back to the OS it is well worth the money to get this OS, the features alone push this way beyond Vista.
- Cons: Still sucks up alot of gigs in running the OS, but that is easily solved by adding more RAM :-D
Again OUTSTANDING OS... great job MS
- Other Thoughts: Case: Thermaltake Xaser VI
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate Mobo: Asus P6T Delux II CPU: I7 920 3.8ghz Ram: 12gig Dominator 9.9.9.24 HD: OS 64gig SSD Patriot Torqx x4 in Raid 0, Velociraptor 300gig x2 for storage PSU: Antec truepower Quattro 1200watt BlrB: LG Blue Ray Burner Super Multi Vid: Asus 4870-TOP (Waiting on the 5900's to hit)
Yeah it's freakishly fast!!!
