5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: After uninstalling the trial version of Office 2013 on my Windows 8.1 computer, I was able to install Office 2010 without any problems. Ordered the backup disk from Microsoft for a small fee.

Cons: Wish that Newegg offered the disk to install, instead of just the product key.

Other Thoughts: Six days ago when I ordered this newegg offered 10% off, which came to $10. Today I look and they are offering $20 off. I saw this product on another website for around $70 but chose not to deal with them since I wasn't aware of there reputation.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Fine

Pros: Good price on the basics.

Cons: No use wishing for Office 2003.

Other Thoughts: This single-license pack is really designed for computers that came pre-loaded with a trial version, but the download was simple, using my junk Hotmail address. I bought the software for a family member with a slow connection, so I downloaded to a flash drive at home before installing; I'll keep the flash in case there is trouble later.

2 out of 5 eggsMicrosoft Lost Their Mind

Pros: Office OK, With Bugs ,, Always BUGs

Cons: How is it possible Microsoft can be soooo arrogant to require a Microsoft Account , after having paid good money and then be hassled before i can install this an use it. I buy this stuff for Client PC's . They dont want or need Microsoft accounts, this is ridiculous. I am looking for alternatives . This Is A Pain, Taker my time and aggravates the client . Microsoft do something different.
Blew it Badly , with Stinking Windows 8, requiring sign- up and that Metro App JUNK. Do something right for a change. If you want to keep and earn new Clients do it thru effort , not TRICKERY .

Other Thoughts: Account Requirement "BAD IDEA" Same Junk with Windows 8 . Most dont know how to get around this hassel fortunately there are ways, but no good ones.

2 out of 5 eggsAvoid This Keycard Version

Pros: if you like MS-Office products you will probably like this version. They're good for general office boiler plate word processing, but WordPerfect has many more advanced features. WP does a much better job on large projects like books and legal brief documents.

This version features the ribbon bar, that I don't much care for. Just makes using the common features more time consuming in my opinion. MS should make it possible to turn the ribbon interface on or off, not just force it on users.

Cons: The download process on this key card version is absolutely ridiculous and unnecessarily time consuming! Why should I have to provide my personal MS User ID to download a copy of software I already paid for, that is being installed on a client's PC??? The file then downloads with no extension, so Windows 7 or 8, has no idea how to install it. I had to rename the file and add the extension "exe" to the end of the download file. Its stupid stunts like these that keep me as far away from MS-Products as is possible anymore. It is worth it to pay the extra $12.99 to get the hard copy disk version, just to avoid this hassle every time you need to download and reload MS-Office when your PC crashes.

On top of the above foolishness they make you enter the license key on the web site to download it, then once again when you go to install it. No you can't copy and paste it either. The website tells you to print out your invoice information with the license key to save it, but Digital River has printing, copying and pasting blocked in I. E.11! I even tried printing the receipt to PDF and that did not work either, just a blank page. I can see why my clients give up on this download process and call me. I have been working with PCs since the first IBM-PC came out in eighties and I have trouble with this download process. I simply don't have the time for this long drawn out process. The download is laos over 900 MB, so if you have a slow Internet connection, be forewarned.

Other Thoughts: There are excellent alternatives to paying the excessive Microsoft tax on home office suites anymore. For instance you can download Kingsoft Office Suite 2013, which looks and works almost identical to MS-Office 2010, at a fraction of the foot print size and best of all it's free. Its also faster on older computers. MS-Office 365 and 2013 add so few new useful features they are waste of good money. The lack of any new real innovation on MS products is simply appalling. I guess you can finally print to PDF in Office 2013 if that is useful to you. You no longer need to use a 3rd party product to accomplish something that has been built into WP since the 1990's.

3 out of 5 eggsWhat a pain.

Pros: Good Product. Personally I like the 2010 version very well. Better than 13. Priced reasonably and works well.

Cons: Have to download. Normally this would not be an issue. I actually prefer to download software but, when it is Microsoft, that is another issue. Had to have a Microsoft account which I have had for years but I purchased this for a work pc and I did not want to have to make an account for work so I used my own. No big deal but you should not have to have a Microsoft account to download and activate software you paid good money for. I guess it is no different than the games I play but with Microsoft it just seems intrusive. The biggest issue was the download link would not work with IE11. Imagine that. Had to use Firefox to download. I have always been one of the few loyal IE fans but IE11 sucks. It's compatibility issues go beyond an occasional issue. Sad when you can't use Microsoft's browser to download their own product.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's growing on me

Pros: Better than 2013
Some improvements over 2007

Cons: Very unintuitive UI. Slower than the older Office suites. Not as pretty as the older office suites.
Hard to train users who are used to 2003/2007

Other Thoughts: You can't buy 2007 anymore, soon you won't be able to buy 2010. 2010 is better IMO than 2013 or 365.

Having upgraded from 2007 to 2010 I initially really disliked it. Intense dislike. It is growing on me, now I only have a mild disdain for it. If this was the first version of Office I used I would probably think it was pretty good. Now that I have started using 2013 on many customer machines, 2010 is looking that much better. I really hate the flat look that everyone is moving to. Maybe I am just old.
