4 out of 5 eggsSetting the standard by which all others compare themselves

Pros: After viewing NewEgg's video on installing Windows 7, I knew the details of what I needed to do. Installation went smoothly and quickly, configuring a 60 Gb SSD. I was able to figure out my re-configuration of my system, setting up default user accounts and default program installation to a 2 Tb HDD. Computer still boots quickly and I only hear the HDD spinning up when I start up an application.

Cons: It was not obvious to me how I could change the program installation default to a high-capacity HDD. I finally googled for this information (silly me!) and was able to re-configure that default. However, shortcuts to application occasionally act up, changing to look for the application on the SSD instead of the HDD. I don't know why these shortcuts change, but at least they're not difficult to manually correct. Minus one Egg because changing the default program installation in Windows 7 does not always function flawlessly. Perhaps my next Windows 7 installation will work better because I now know what to do in the first place...

Other Thoughts: In spite of my comments, I'm modestly competent at the system administration of my own Windows 7 desktop system, so Windows 7 is still my preferred OS. I own an Ubuntu laptop, but it's still less simple for me to administer (although it's my everyday preference at work, where I don't have to administer my work computer).

Most importantly, my wife prefers Windows 7 overall. Sure, she still whines at me when things go wrong in Windows 7, but she complains more loudly whenever she's forced to deal with the default Ubuntu environment. She's used to Windows 7, she's not pleased with differences in Ubuntu, and I'm happier when she's not complaining about the Linux environment.

My wife is somewhat helpless when she tries to perform file transfers to a flash drive in Windows 7, but she becomes completely helpless when she's in Ubuntu. I try to explain how similar the environments are, but she refuses to accept any alternative to Windows 7. Face it, shes simply prefers Windows 7 and she wants me to make sure that I don't desire to switch her over to Linux.

My daughter is a student and her classwork virtually requires an all-Microsoft computer system for her assignments. How can you fight Windows 7 for market leadership? Ya can't!

2 out of 5 eggsCaution

Pros: It's windows 7, so it's better than Windows 8... and Vista

Cons: I had issues verifying my copy because the 4 segment product key on the box did not fill up the 5 segments they required. I had to deal with my windows being not "genuine" for a while before I gave up and spent another $100 to buy a new product key. It may have been user error but else I tried worked. Wasn't happy about that

Other Thoughts: I don't want to believe this is a conterfit copy of Windows, but something didn't add up. As I said, it may have been user error, but I caution buyers non the less

1 out of 5 eggsWindows 7 OEM has no Validation Key

Pros: NONE

Cons: bought a copy of Windows 7 (OEM) but doesn't come with a validation key, windows is now virtually unusable, called Microsoft but they hung up on me, how does Newegg sell copies of Windows without a key??

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Brother had win8....I dislike the automatic changes/settings they impose of it. Hopefully this OS last as long as XP did.

Cons: None., aside the once in awhile hassles of botched windows-updates...

5 out of 5 eggsNearly perfect for my parents!

Pros: Win 7 and even though not pro it has so many great features and stability!

Cons: Drop the price

Other Thoughts: Got this for less than $80 for a system for my parents and it is running very nicely. I was nervous about putting Linux on a Laptop for my parents so this price was great!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Great value for the price. The 'full' version Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit for a low price. Windows 7 runs better and with less hassle than the newest version, Windows 8. All updates and service packs for the future of Windows 7 OS.

Cons: License can only be activated once, no official Microsoft tech support.
