Battlefield 2142 PC Game

ICON Loading...

The sequel to the immensely popular Battlefield series, Battlefield 2142 is a sci-fi themed first-person shooter that borrows from the best of Battlefield, but benefits from streamlining to focus on the series’ strongest points. Battlefield fans, did this sound familiar: select a machine gunner, to only find your enemies at long range and you in the crosshairs of a sniper rifle? In Battlefield 2142, the number of available soldiers is reduced, and each specialist is better equipped, leading to more balanced play and less regret on which soldier you choose.

What’s more, there’s 150 years of weapons technology to dig into. That means cloaking devices, sentry guns, hover tanks, massive battle Mechs and much, much more to master. In addition to the classic conquest format (aka capture the flag), the new Titan mode introduces massive, heavily armored, flying warships for each team to defend while targeting the enemy’s. With up to 64 players duking it out simultaneously, each battle is a unique, action-packed joy ride!

The year is 2142, and the dawn of a new ice age has thrown the world into a panic. The math is simple and brutal: The soil not covered by ice can only feed a fraction of the Earth's population. Some will live, most will die.
Players will choose to fight for one of two military superpowers in an epic battle for survival, the European Union or the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition. Armed with a devastating arsenal of hi-tech assault rifles, cloaking devices and sentry guns, players will also do battle using some of the most imposing vehicles known to man. Massive battle Mechs wage fierce combat on the ground, while futuristic aircraft rule the skies. When facing one of these new behemoths, players will need to use their wits and an arsenal of new countermeasures like EMP grenades to level the playing field.

4 out of 5 eggsInternet

Pros: Great game vast improvement on the bf2 on concerns with updating. Clan Tags!!!!

Cons: Requires internet to do anything. You need internet to make a character, then to get unlocks like grenades, but after character is made you can play the single player maps and take the kits from dead enemies who have everything unlocked. Requires DSL or higher.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Game, Takes Some Time

Pros: Okay, I played BF2 for 2 years before I got this, and although initially it is VERY frustrating because the guns stink in the beginning, it has really become a more dynamic game than BF2. I don't like EA, but I think they really thought about making this game after BF2. First off, it is much more dynamic. Each class (4) has paths that are very different, unlike in BF2. The maps, graphics, and fluidity of gameplay are much better. Loading times have been cut by 75% compared to BF2. Connection issues are about 25% better than BF2. And the titan mode makes for interesting gameplay.

Cons: The guns are much less accurate and real time gun movements have been installed when you shoot. No more "perfect sniper shots" when you shoot; and although I was very frustrated at first, as I usually only played IO in BF2, I have actually come to love vehicles in this game. The engineer class is very powerful against vehicles for example. Give this game some time, it takes a while to get good, even if you have played BF2 for some time.

Other Thoughts: Overall, there are a lot less problems and more options when compared to BF2. FINALLY, they allow you to create more than one account! up to 5 I think. They also let you add clan tags :). The interface is also improved and the music is more natural and less annoying. Oh, and don't go by the demo, I downloaded it and it not a true rep. of the game. True, there are less air vehicles, but I actually like to fly them now. It has its flaws, but if you like BF2, you should love 2142, just give it some time.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat game, but a tech failure...

Pros: Great gameplay, just flat out fun. If it wasn't for the tech issues, this game could have had 5 stars.

Cons: Oh the bugs....
Lets put it this way, if your willing to deal with horrific loading times, glitchy interface and intermittent crashing as well as relatively poor patching support (the EA support is very good however).

Other Thoughts: If you have Vista, don't even think about buying this. I can't play the game for an hour with out killing my drivers, having to wipe them out and re-install them from scratch. It is not fun. I'm defiantly no slouch when it comes to computers and I have basically given up on this one.

2 out of 5 eggsNot bad but definetly not good

Pros: Kinda fun gameplay. Stays true to the Battlefield theme and style of gameplay. A cheap thrill.

Cons: In single player mode, the AI on the other team is always smarter then your teams is, reguardless of how you set the AI level. The AI is also dumber then it was back in Battlefield 1942. There is also very few levels. Ranking system is very annoying in single player. To acess new weapon choices and abilities you have to gain rank and I would be fine with that except you can only gain rank when you win games. It doesnt matter how many people you kill or points you capture you will only gain rank with a win, and a loss will set you back an insane amount experience wise.

Other Thoughts: I bought Battlefield 1942 way back when it was new and it was a thousand times better then this game. Overall I was disapointed in this game. But at least it was cheap.....

2 out of 5 eggsNeeds alot of work

Pros: Unique reality? It's simply a MOD for BF2. NOT a new game in it's entirety. Slightly better graphic's.

Cons: Being a MOD mean's it's 100% problematic in the exact same area's as BF2, from bug's to misbalances in weapons.

Other Thoughts: I was playing this thing in a beta form before public release, and played a short while thereafter before uninstalling it. In my opinion it's a bad MOD. There are several MOD's for BF2 that are certified for ranked server's by EA that are MUCH better and less buggy. Get it if you want a slight change and a bigger headache. Otherwise, your best bet is one of the better designed MOD's that EA doesn't have it's sticky finger's in.

3 out of 5 eggsBugs, bugs, and more bugs, geh

Pros: I can't stop playing this game.

Cons: I can't stop playing this game.

Lots and lots of bugs, bad ea support, lazy programmers not doing their job, twitchy interface, fritzy servers, buggy net code.....

Other Thoughts: I love this game for its game play and tactics as well as dynamic environments. I must warn you though, this game is buggy as hell. The interface(java?) is poorly programmed, takes a long time to load. Game play is great but there's the usual quirks that every game has - map glitchs, shots not registering, settings being lost, etc. Its still a good game despite the problems, just have a good supply of "stress balls" when the bugs and glitches start showing up. Patches still haven't addressed the bugs and probably never will with ea at the wheel.

4 out of 5 eggsOn a pathetic comp it still works

Pros: I bought this game back in October of 2007. Other than borrowing BF1942, this is the most fun with the whole MMORPG type of play, since you can technically customize your soldier in any category you want.

Cons: None that I can blame this game for.
Just wish my computer was better.

Other Thoughts: Believe it or not I'm playing is game on the most pathetic system and it still works. Azus mobo from 2004 I'm not so sure what the model number is, XP version 2002, Geforce FX 5200 graphics card, an Intel Pentium 4 cpu 2.0ghz, and 1GB of ram I kinda found in the garbage. I'm almost baffled that my comp can take this game.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the best games ever

Pros: I've been playing comp games since role based text games on unix machines in the early 80's. Without a doubt, this is my all time favorite. I stopped playing shooters after Duke-Nukem, just wasn't my preference. A buddy begged me to start playing BF2 and I did for about a month prior to 2142 being released. The gameplay is smooth and it is reasonably balanced. Each of the game modes are a blast. There is nothing more exhilarating than being in a great squad and working together.

Cons: There are numerous bugs related to Punkbuster but can be overcome with research. EA master server will occasionally go on the fritz. I have not had any of the patch problems that others have.

Other Thoughts: While widescreen is not supported natively, you can load into resolutions that are not listed in game. I've been playing at 2560x1600 for a year now and it is awesome!

I have tweaked and tested performance under both XP 32 bit and Vista Ult 32 bit, in sandbox and online. Hands down, XP outperforms Vista by about 25% It is worthy to note that Vista handles crashes much better than XP.

If you are considering this game, I might suggest that you wait until the gold version comes out and skip the patch and upgrade headaches.

5 out of 5 eggsLove It - Yes i also have bf2.. this is better

Pros: This game really owns, i have bf2 and there is no real comparison, you just have to get use to the fact it is MODERN warfare... I love the titan mode (bf2 has nothing on it).. The ranking system is outstanding, grafix own other games.

BUY IT, ITS WORTH IT..

Cons: None really, well i guess if you want to get "nit pickie" then sumtimes when you lose EA connection to master server, can get anoying, however it only happens about 1 of 10 times online, you can also rejoin the server and get your pts back.

Other Thoughts: 8800GTS 320Mb Superclocked

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550

2GB DDR2 800

Asus 650 Sli mobo

Turn everything on high and this really owns everything in bf2142..

1 out of 5 eggsBelongs in the garbage

Pros: The DVD case and hype makes this game look nice. The concept WOULD HAVE been something nice too. But...

Cons: I swear EA is composed of a bunch of nut jobs. This game came out as a beta product and still is. I've had this game since it came out. You have to install everything that is EA in order to play it. BF2142 wasn't cheap either when it came out and for EA to pull something like this (again mind you) is beyond me.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor and don't buy this game. EA Link, which is there to "verify" your purchase, is no longer available so you can't even play the game if you've uninstalled it after their little market change. EA Link has been replaced with EA Downloader, and it's also garbage. I'm not usually one to write harsh reviews like this; but, I am beyond fed up with these half "arsed" games with top dollar prices from EA. It's sickening...Arrrgghh!
