Burnout Paradise: Ultimate Box

Criterion completely re-invents their Burnout series. Long the king of the road in arcade racing, Paradise City raises the bar with a completely open city that lets you drive where you want, and do what you want right from the start. From the downtown freeways on the east side of town to the rolling country roads to the west, there are plenty of racing action as well as hidden locations awaiting discovery.

Pick up a race at any of the 120 traffic lights in town and you're off. Racing is more than just moving from point A to point B as it's up to you to find the best route to take to get to your destination. Victories unlock a new car from the list of 75 available, but to get it to appear in your garage, you have to "take it down" using your current vehicle. Race through the incredibly detailed city in 7 modes that'll have you burning up the asphalt, drifting, flipping and jumping, racing the clock or going for collisions day or night.

Collisions are fully detailed with the ability to fold, mutilate and spindle your car or motorcycle – or that of your opponent. If you can drive away from your wreck, you can easily repair it by driving through a repair shop. Online play allows you to challenge up to 7 other players to events with a simple push of the button. A blistering 60fps video keeps the action flowing smoothly without a flicker as you watch pieces of your opponent's car fly past.

5 out of 5 eggsOne awesome game...

Pros: Graphics are amazing, over 75 cars to win, awesome car crash physics, beautiful environment. This is probably one of my most favorite action packed racing games....

Cons: none...

Other Thoughts: The game runs at 60 Fps, maxed out graphics without SSAO...

My Rig:
Gigabyte MA77OT-UD3P Mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz CPU

5 out of 5 eggsawesome

Pros: loads of fun

Cons: not playable on keyboard/mouse , you better have a high end system cause this game uses a lot of cpu cycles.

Other Thoughts: buy the microsoft xbox for windows controller, don't install the online downloader at the end of the install, it is annoying and unnecessary.

4 out of 5 eggsGood game

Pros: Good looks, controls good, enough challenges, great music included, plenty of stunts to do, huge world.

Cons: Different cars do not make the game be different, so you may get bored of driving back an forth. The map is big enough to always find something new.

Other Thoughts: Multiplayer is fun to a certain point. Note that I am not into racing games that much.

5 out of 5 eggsSix months later

Pros: Gets more realistic with the wheel (Momo) as new cars are added. Conditions change from night to day with fog and sunsets etc.. Trees move with the wind. Smoke, fog, debris fly by. There is some traffic with sound effects. I still look at the map but am becoming more familiar with the elevated railroad the jumps on parking garage tops, tunnels, freeways. Stunts still shock me they are so realistic as in barrell rolls thru the air. The cars are beautiful and I take pride in them. You'll see.

Cons: I have to use an icon shortcut on my task bar for the game controllers (in Control panel) and calibrate my wheel befor each game. I must click "document flip" on my logitech mouse to get out of the game without ending it. The races with the computer are fixed but are fun (have not raced a real person yet). Great selection of music but need more after six months.

Other Thoughts: This game has no people. No pedestrians, no drivers, no cops, no dogs, no bicyclists. Not one person flipped me off yet.

4 out of 5 eggsGame is very cool. CD did not work.

Pros: Great game. One of the best games in my opinion. Lots to do. Everyone should try out this game. I don't feel ashamed playing this game in front of my three year old either...unlike many other games.

Cons: I bought this game and uninstalled the downloaded version to install from the CD hoping there might be some extras on the cd. It would not install saying that the CD could not access autorun.dat. Very dissapointing, and a real head scratcher.
I had to redownload off of the internet and reinstall, then put my serial key in. Should not have been this hard.

Other Thoughts: Good game. I have read somewhere that you can just pay for a serial key and don't have to buy the actual CD. Don't know if that's true, but if that is the case then those who purchased the cd got ripped off as there are no extras over the downloaded version.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent PC Game

Pros: Excellent grahics, great racing action, good progression, fully open world. Works well with keyboard controls. Runs solid, no crashes, no bugs. Overall one of the most well done PC games I've played. Right up there with Quake and Doom for stability and quality.

Cons: Menu system is kludgey, takes a while to wade through the menus to actually get to the game. Game gets harder than I'd like toward the end. Very minor cons, but cons nonetheless.

Other Thoughts: I really enjoy racing games on my PC. However, I like using a plain ol' keyboard. Not all racing games work well on a keyboard, especially the simulation style ones. This one is fully arcade style which I like and works great on a keyboard. Everything is top notch. The progresion is smooth and deep. The events are really exciting and the sensation of speed is incredible. The open world seems fairly vast and there's lots of stuff to explore. The cars are awesome and fully original. I've played most of the NFS games and this rivals the best of them. The quality is excellent. I've put about 40 hours on Burnout so far and have not experienced one crash or bug. The one thing negative I can say is it gets kind of monotonous toward the end with the increasing amount of traffic and wrecks. I wish I could turn that down a few notches.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Game

Pros: Great graphics, gameplay, controls and sound effects. Hours of fun. Each car handles differently. I like the open sandbox style. You can go anywhere, do anything, when you want, and how you want. Crashes look great. Super jumps are cool. Love the stunt runs, barrel rolls and flat spins. Road Rage is awesome, action packed. Motion blur gives you a good sense of speed. Dynamic weather and day/night feature is cool. At first, I only had a GeForce 7300GS and was only able to play the game with all low settings at 800x600 resolution. Got a Radeon HD 4830 512MB and can play it with high settings now at high resolutions. Works great with Logitech Dual Action gamepad. Besides the huge crashes there's no real violence in the game as there are no people in the cars. The only people that I've seen are on the bikes and they instantly disappear when you crash. No explosions that I'm aware of either. Music can be turned off.

Cons: Don't like the online activation process. Takes a while to start the game with all the intro screens. Wish I could turn off the Gun's n' Roses intro song. The ingame menu is a little bit inconvinent. When you want to end the game you have to go through a few menus to find the Exit Game option. Wish there were a speedometer. Addon's like Cops and Robbers and Big Surf Island have not yet been released for the PC version of this game. Don't like the SSAO feature. I keep it off.

Other Thoughts: Wish I had a huge widescreen LCD monitor. I'm sure playing online is fun, but I only have dialup internet. The game allows you to install on another computer but you first have to go online and deactivate the game on the first computer. Not sure if that's a pro or a con.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Great game. Super fast. Lots of variety. Seamless online play.

Cons: Racing through the city is a bit overwhelming. You have to constantly look at the map while careening through traffic at blazing speeds.

Doesnt like less than 2 gigs of ram in XP.

Other Thoughts: It's pretty taxing on my overclocked Pentium 4 but that's my fault for living in the past!
