3 out of 5 eggsDecent game, needs Wheel for all Drifting portions though

Pros: I'm re-reviewing this game in lieu of some more exposure to it. The game is very realistic and there is a plethora of modification options for your car on part with (though not better than) Forza, Project Gotham and Gran Turismo.

The game can be as wild and crazy as you want it (albeit, you won't be winning races that way though) or as perfectionistic as you you need be.

Cons: Sadly, this list is still mostly the same as my previous review, but with a few revisions.

Playing the game without one of it's supported gaming wheels is a challenge. I use a Logitech PS3-like controller and even with dual analog sticks, it's still difficult.

The pre-supported wheels apparently don't require any configuration, but anything except an XBOX controller will need to be carefully tweaked (braking, throttle, steering sensitivity, etc) before the game can be enjoyed. Even with these tweaks though, the Drifting portion is nearly unplayable without a proper wheel because of the accelerator pedal. You technically can use the 2nd stick to mimic a pedal, but it's EXTREMELY difficult..to the point of controller-throwing frustration. (this is why I took 1 egg off, the other missing egg is listed below.)

Other Thoughts: The game has many very technical tweaks available, particularly in regards to the suspension, transmission and engine block. The descriptions on what these do will typically confuse the average casual player, yet sadly, most are required to be tweaked in order to win certain races with certain cars....which is a fact most new players/casual players will over look entirely and simply ragequit. Further, these settings must be saved to individual tracks.

If you are a fan of 'arcade-style' racing games, you will NOT like this one (or any other sim for that matter).

If there was a tutorial specific to tuning, I think it would help a lot of newcomers enjoy the game more despite the fact that the trailer (and the opening cinematic) make it look like an arcade style.

Lastly, there is no GUI mode that has ONLY the map in the corner. During night racing, the gauge cluster on the right becomes a hinderance and not having the map is like driving blind.

4 out of 5 eggsNFS: SHIFT Lite

Pros: Good game for the player looking for more realism/challenge than the typical arcade racer can provide.

Cons: A bit of a step backward from NFS: SHIFT. This is a solid game, very fun to play, but it's not really an improvement over the original. In fact, I'd say it's a bit of a step backward... but it still beats the heck out of most racing titles.

2 out of 5 eggsImpossible without a Racing Wheel

Pros: Got the game on sale for $5 and it arrived in half the time it said it would. The game runs fine on a Radeon HD 6950 on full settings and looks gorgeous. The game has lots of accurate car models (inside and out) as well as the real-world accurate and appropriate mods.

The game plays smoothly without bugs ( I did install the 1.01 patch just prior to playing it the first time).

The music choices are also nice and the inclusion of online racing is also kinda cool (though I haven't tried it yet)

Sadly that's where this list of good ends....

Cons: Playing a racing game on a mouse/keyboard is obviously not recommended so it's good I had a Logitech Dual Action controller.

Even with that, the game is nearly impossible to play. I jockeyed with the steering sensitivity to try and get the analog stick to work best, but the cars (both RWD and FWD) were constantly oversteering. I switched to using the control-cross and that method lead to constant understeer.

I know this is a driving sim, but all the cars (even on a level track, and fully upgraded suspensions and tires) seem to never stick to the road.

And if you even get touched in the slightest by another car (which they blatantly aim for you), you get thrown off the track and your race is basically over. 9/10 times this will happen in the first two turns of a race.

This game is essentially unplayable without a racing wheel, which even basic ones start at $50 and a good one costs $200+, making this game among the most expensive ever to even have a chance at winning.

Other Thoughts: I've played a lot of racing games, Project Gotham, Grand Turismo series, Forza (1 & 2 only) even arcade ones like Crazy Taxi and the F-Zero series, and this by far has the most ridiculously over sensitive collision detection and steering mechanism of them all.

Also relating to the fact that crashing out is a common thing, you also have to sit through the pointless starting race cinematic EVERY TIME YOU RESTART A RACE. To say it's annoying would be an epic understatement.

My suggestion is to leave the racing sim games to game makers who know what they are doing (Forza, Project Gotham) and let the NFS series stick to fun arcade-style games instead.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible DO NOT Buy for PC

Pros: Only paid 7 dollars for it

Cons: This game stinks big time. It doesn't work very well with the XBOX 360 controller. I've played many racing games and never had these kind of problems. The control is so touchy. I've play other games on hard, but can't even win a beginning race on easy with this one.

Other Thoughts: It's going in the garbage!

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Graphics are pretty good. Driving is decent.

Cons: Been playing need for speed for a long time. This game is disappointing. Even worse than "pro street". EVEN the slightest bump with another car causes a massive crash that can't be recovered from. So during a 3 lap race, if you bump another car on the final lap thats it game over restart the race. Get the lead within the first couple corners or you won't stand a chance.

Other Thoughts: Seriously this game is awful. The car selection is boring and crazy. Need for speed used to be about driving through open worlds, nitrous, and awesome levels of customization. This game makes me SICK! Bring back NFS Underground.

4 out of 5 eggsFun

Pros: challenging, cool tracks, additive, exciting,

Cons: nerve racking, can tick you off, haha

Other Thoughts: Some cars have so much power and little traction it's very hard just going down a straight, yet alone making turns, but you get use to it, but dang it's crazy fun. Another car or track may offer better traction and make it easier to win, but I had to fight for most win so fare.

1 out of 5 eggsNOT GREAT

Pros: sorry, gotta leave this empty......... well, the helmet cam was a good idea. just like real life driving. give them a (+) for that.

Cons: cars will not adhere to the tracks. there is almost no feeling between the racer and the road. i say almost no feeling... feels like you're racing on ice or sand because there is absolutely no grip. the first shift game was much better. they need to fire the moron who thought it would be a good idea to change it. you only get about 6 tracks to test your cars on. all of them suck and become boring the second time you race on them. won't buy the next one.

Other Thoughts: if you were expecting a carry over from the first Shift, forget it. these guys should have left it alone........ just give us more tracks......... and throw in some fantasy tracks. who wants to keep racing on "real" circuits. the 12.8 mile nordischlef track.......... more monsters like that. And longer straight-a -ways so we can get 250mph out of these cars.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate From FlashBack

Pros: I just wanted to let all know that I got a second HD6970 (from newegg) put this game in crossfire. I then switch the crossfired Sandybridge computer to the triple 28 monitor setup. After patching game ,updating drivers cat 11.5 , adding caps 11.4 and changing the Shift2u.exe file to AFR-FriendlyD3D. All I can say is WOW. I have this running with everything maxed on ultra high. Yes there is a ultra high setting if you change your config-graphic file to 3's where is needed. V syn is even on. About had to cause I'm running those cheap 28 inch hanns monitors that newegg use to sell. AMAZING is all I can say. It Look Great and runs smooth as silk.

Cons: Took some work to get there.

Other Thoughts: I now will run nivida computer on 47 inch tv. Im sure it will be more then enough with sli and the help of nivida inspector. Once again if your having trouble search for forums on this game. This game is every bit as good as dirt 2 just on pavement. It might even be better.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This game is about as good as any race game I ever played. Amazing graphics ( Note: Once manipulated ) Mods are easy to work within game. I have less screen shake and camera mods installed so far.

Cons: I was about to give up on this games graphics . It went from one of the worse to near dirt 2 graphics after some work. I searched forums and also mods to get it way I wanted it. I was about to give up and sell it . I'm so glad I didn't

Other Thoughts: If you are having problems with this game I understand but don't give up. It went from about worse game to best with some work. I have it running on both a AMD-Nivida machine with triple monitors and also on a sandy bridge-ATI machine with 47 inch tv as monitor. Search forums for help. I did.
Triple 28inch monitor setup is 2 gtx465 in surround slight overclocked with Phenom II 975 stock speed. 47 inch lg LCD setup is i5 2500k stock (overclocked made no difference) with HD 6970 stock speed. I have sandy bridge in game settings maxed out plus. You can set higher then in game under graphic file that game loads. Once again look in forums. Or wait for patch if you are not tech savvy. So glad I didn't give up. To me the game was worth the work.

5 out of 5 eggsOk, it is good!

Pros: Even though it seems like a big expansion pack for the original Shift, I think it’s one of the best racing games on the PC today. It’s more refined with extra cars, tracks, and a mod to the helmet cam. There are a few other things but in gameplay what you see is an upgraded Shift1. That said, it’s not a bad thing… I liked Shift1.

The racing is intense, and a lot of times I find myself hanging out in the menu checking out my cars and the car lot because they just look awesome and you can customize lots of stuff. I’m racing with all assists off, but had to turn on stability control to stop the unintended u-turns. Manual Transmission is a must, for me anyway…

Can’t comment on wheels, but my old Logitech Rumblepad2 controller seems much more responsive with a wider range than the first Shift. I use left stick for steering and right one for gas/brake. I’m happy with this, much more throttle control going around corners and that helps with the upgraded drifting system as well.

Cons: The new helmet cam is slightly off; doesn’t feel right at times…maybe because it changes according to the track and not what the driver is doing. What I mean is before you start a turn it automatically looks that way before you start turning, and it may be just me, but sometimes it’s hard to tell which way the car is going. Most of the time it works great though, and I even notice these details driving in real life. Left turn after a stop light I naturally look to the left, bumps in the road shake my vision a little, finish the turn and view straightens up, accelerate and you fall back into the seat… I’m thinking wow, Shift2 almost nailed it.

Temperature and fuel gauges are static, and that really took away some realism for me… Incredible details on the interiors of very nice cars yet the temperature gauge is still at the lowest and doesn’t move?

The AI can be very annoying; some races if you don’t get to first at the start you probably won’t catch up. Just too aggressive, and

Other Thoughts: Similar to Shift1, it runs great on my PC all high settings, 1920x1080 res, 2xAA, 4xAF.
