got my rebate!
- Pros: this is a powerful editing program. I can't compare it to others except Microsoft Movie Maker. Vegas is so far beyond Movie Maker that I won't bother going into the details. Sorry I mentioned it. I'm not in a position to give this a proper review as we are still learning, but we made some amazing movies already. Anyway I did want to say I got my Mail In Rebate. Yay Sony!
- Cons: none that I can write about.
- Other Thoughts: I got my rebate. Sorry I'm not a professional movie editor or I'd really review this program. I actually bought it for my 14 year old son, and he makes amazing movies. Uses Fraps to record game footage and turns them into Machina movies. Also takes our home movies and turns them into enjoyable movies. Really cool stuff. I'm glad I bought it for him as the results have been totally worth it.
Great for HD editing at an awesome price
- Pros: For less than a hundred you get to edit your 1920x1080 videos.
Many features, even some generic movie copyright free music to put in your video. Professional level editing. Great tools to create DVDs with menus. Exports to PSP directly. Burns Blu-ray disks.
- Cons: Professional level editing means it is not easy. You need to know what you are doing.
- Other Thoughts: Learning this means also that you are learning the ropes for actual video editing as a job, I believe the professional version is very similar to this.
Beware!!! may not be what you want!!
- Pros: Out Of Sync (OOS): One of the great features of this product is that it becomes relatively easy to fix the dreaded OOS problems that can occur when editing. You can ungroup the audio from the video and move it around on the time line!
My TV capture card is used to record HD & SD programming. To preserve the HD quality I need AVCHD (H.264), which is much cheaper all around than Blu-Ray. I am currently using the Corel (ULEAD) product, but it has limitations. The advertising for Sony Vegas lead me to believe that they had more to offer. Sadly this is not true. In fact, this product has more problems than ULEAD.
Mpeg2: Everything works fine as long as you are ok with the following output (rendering) limitations: 720x480, lower field first, mpeg audio. For SD programs, I get the following file format: 704 (or 720) x480, upper field first, AC3 (Dolby) 2/0. You are forced to transcode your file, reversing the field orientation and eliminating the Dolby sound. The resulting picture i
- Cons: AC3 BUG: A known bug in this version, which Sony apparently is not intending to correct, consistantly crashes VMS9. Attempting to load certain HD/AC3 files into the time line, or even select them in the explorer, can trigger the crash. Seems to happen when there is anything other than the simplest file format, i.e., 1 video, 1 audio file. TV stations can broadcast up to 3 Dolby files, AC3-2/0, AC3-3/2, and AC3-2/0 diff language. When working with AVCHD, a single AC3-3/2 (surround) audio file, it appears to get converted into 2/0 in the time line! You CANNOT select the audio stream to be processed!
SUPPORT: Unless you are prepared to spend $$$, forget about Sony support. They refuse to answer even the most basic of technical questions without some up from cash! The only recourse that you have is to the forums; fortunately, there seem to be some savvy folks hanging around there, although as is the case with any forum, some answer who shouldn't ;) However, most of the helpfuls are no
- Other Thoughts: I've noticed that the price for 9-Pro continues to drop. Sony's probably dumping version 9 in anticipation of version 10. Unless you're absolutely convinced that you need, or can make due with a mediocre product, I'd wait for version 10. Has to be way better(?)
