5 out of 5 eggsBuggy But Great Proram

Pros: well it says it reccomends 4 gigs of ram. if you are a serious editor have more. my pc has 16 gigs of ram and every render no matter the length or size is at 10 gigs of total system usage.

its buggy to but the patches are fixing them.

Cons: 600 Bucks

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: I've been using Vegas for over 10 years, since version 2 (still under the Sonic Foundry banner then). I've found the latest version to be another great product. The included NewBlue Titler Pro is a great addition.
My primary use is editing HD footage I've taken myself with a Canon Vixia HF S21. I find the interface intuitive and easy to navigate, and highly configurable to your liking. A lot of power and flexibility. Honestly, I've never had to call support for any issue. Their online forums contain lots of useful information and will generally answer my questions.
I'm running Vegas Pro 11.0, build 511, 64 bit.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have had this and previous versions crash under inexplicable circumstances, but usually I'm not alone, and a fix, in the form of an update, is available in reasonable time.

Vegas works with a wide variety of graphics cards, but the list of those that it can use to speed up rendering is short. Also, even if your card is supported and Vegas can take advantage of it, you still need to be rendering your footage using Sony's own codec to utilize the supported hardware. Check Sony's site for a list supported cards. If your video card isn't supported for hardware acceleration, then it will use the CPU instead.

My system is home built: ASUS P6X58D motherboard, Six-Core Intel Core i7 980X CPU, 12GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600 RAM, ASUS GTX570 video card, Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB 10,000 RPM drive for storing video, 2 Western Digital 2TB drives for general storage, and a Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2CCA 128GB SSD for operating system and programs, running Windows Ultimate 64-bit.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless, buggy and not an upgrade

Pros: None

Cons: Crashes.
GPU acceleration does not work on many cards and in many cases actually hurts performance.
Slooooooooooow, jerky, previews that are worthless for editing.
Cannot handle .mov, footage without crashing.
Cannot open AVIs created with the Cineform envelope.

Other Thoughts: This is supposed to be a product aimed at professionals, whose time is valuable. Sony kicks that idea in the head with a product that is flawed and full of bugs and issues. I have wasted two months trying to get it work. Thankfully, I had not removed Vegas 9, and I have been using that, instead. Files that open in Vegas 9 won't open in 11, after spending more money on codec upgrades and buying one of the approved NVIDIA cards. Still can't edit AVIs created in Cineform. More that two or three .mov clips crash it. This program is a time waster. Sony planned on users to be the unpaid beta testers. And, as usual, technical support is non-existent, unless you want to pay money for phone support.
