DOOM 3: BFG Edition features DOOM 3 and the Resurrection of Evil add-on pack, both of which have been completely re-mastered. The package also includes hours of new content -- seven new levels entitled "The Lost Mission."

This genre defining game and its expansion pack offers greatly enhanced graphics, deeply immersing the player in the demonic world of this terrifying horror masterpiece. Players will also experience a never-before-seen single-player story, The Lost Mission, featuring seven heart-pounding levels that will once again have them on the edge of their seats.

DOOM 3, Resurrection of Evil, and The Lost Mission have been optimized in 3D, featuring 5.1 surround sound, improved rendering and lighting, and a new check point save system allowing for smoother progression through the game. id Software has fine-tuned the controls to bring the intensity of the DOOM single and multiplayer experience to the consoles, and DOOM 3 now features the new armor-mounted flashlight, allowing players to illuminate dark corners and blast enemies at the same time. As a special bonus, DOOM 3 BFG Edition will also include the original DOOM and DOOM 2 games, making it the definitive collection of the revolutionary games developed by id Software.

  • newegg A collection edition The BFG Edition includes remastered versions of the 2004 first-person shooter, its 2005 expansion Resurrection of Evil, and The Lost Mission, a new seven-mission pack. It also contains the original Doom and Doom II games, frequently cited as progenitors of the FPS genre.
  • newegg Enhanced changes Doom 3 and its expansion will receive a high-definition face-lift with new lighting and rendering as well as stereoscopic 3D support, 5.1 surround sound, and achievements and trophies for their respective consoles.
  • newegg A new checkpoint system and an armor-mounted flashlight The gameplay will also receive changes in the form of a new checkpoint system and an armor-mounted flashlight, allowing players to operate weaponry while simultaneously illuminating Doom 3's darkened environments. The previous version required players to shift back and forth between the handheld flashlight's visual awareness and the much heftier firepower of Doom's diverse arsenal--inspiring a "duct tape mod" to give players the best of both worlds.

Pros: Probably okay if you like using "Steam" to play your games.

Cons: You can't just put this game in and install it to your computer like I am used to. You have to install "Steam" first and create a "Steam" account from the internet. Then you have to sign into "Steam" to play the game. Installation was very slow. I quit the insallation and will try to sell the game online. I'm steamed!

1 out of 5 eggsGame software is not on the dvd

Pros: Fast shipping from Newegg.
Great support service from Newegg.

Cons: Game software is not on the dvd. the disk installs software to create an on line account with Steam Distribution. If you are lucky, you will figure out how to download the game software from here.
However, the game software would not install.
This is a Windows 7 game trying to install on a Windows 7 machine.
Not much of a bargain, but not Newegg's fault.
Who knew you need to deal with the Steam distributor?
Newegg had no problem issueing a refund.

3 out of 5 eggsStill good, but beware the new changes.

Pros: Pros -

- The new high-resolution textures. Running on ID Tech 5, the RAGE engine, this game looks even more gorgeous now than it did back in 2004.

- Five games in one. You get Doom 1 (Ultimate) and 2, Doom 3, Resurrection of Evil, and the Lost Missions. If TNT and Plutonia from Final Doom were in this game as well, that would've been amazing.

Cons: Cons -

- Censorship. I've noticed a lot of this while playing, mostly in the original Doom games you get with this title. The red crosses on med-kits and stim-packs are now red/white pills, and the secret Wolfenstein maps have been heavily censored, removing all (censored word) references/images, soldier skins, and even the Wolfenstein-esque MIDI music. As a result, these levels feel barren and boring.

- No mod support. This was the big game-breaker to me, and if you love modding your games, this fact is a definite problem to consider.

- Graphical/immersion changes. ID Tech 5's engine in this game doesn't allow casting of shadows with the flashlight and other light sources, versus ID Tech 4, the original Doom 3 engine, which did. Considering how much of Doom3 was based in lighting, being scared of what was around the next corner, a-la System Shock 2 and Amnesia, this is a very noticeable issue. Which, thanks to the above point, is not fixable at this time.

- New missions aren't all that new. In short, this game reuses several maps from Doom 3 for the "Lost Mission" add-on. That was very disappointing to realize.

Other Thoughts: I would only recommend buying this game if you want to see Doom 3 in 3D, or you have no qualms about the loss of mods or the censorship.

Even then, supporting a move like this is difficult to justify. How much you lose by buying this version is very noticeable versus what you could gain.

I would recommend tracking down the original games instead, even if they cost more these days.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Waiting

Pros: Game graphics improved and follows original story line.

Cons: Could have been fun for all - not arrived yet.

Ordered 4 copies (3 nephews & me) the evening of the 19th and paid for expedited handling. On 20th picked up at Memphis, Tn Newegg facility (I live a few hours away in TN). It was handed over to a partner carrier then shipped to some obscure point in GA. From the obscure point in GA it was given to USPS to be shipped back to TN. It is now three days later and the package is still in GA.

I should have driven over and picked it up. I would have been much faster and I could have visited relatives in that part of the state. I almost got this elsewhere since I am a Prime member, but decided to let Newegg have this order.

Other Thoughts: I am a little disappointed in the service...and yes I know it is Christmas. I could have gotten this via another online company and had it by Saturday a few pennies cheaper, but like Newegg for their good, consistent customer service.

I did not gig the game since the delivery service had nothing to do with the playability of the software. I enjoyed the original Doom series and will enjoy this updated, enhanced version just as much.

Pros: N/A

Cons: I ordered this on the 29th of November & I've been keeping track of the shipping & this is what I don't get , It went from New Jersey to Kentucky , back up to PA & it will most likely go to Charleston WV & then up to where I live , which is in the North Central part of West Virginia , about an hour from the PA line , it's not suppose to arrive until December 8th ,,,, it would probably be better to get the 3 day shipping if you want it faster than 9 days

Other Thoughts: This isn't NewEggs faught the way it's shipped , that's why I'm still giving 5 Eggs , I love ordering stuff from NewEgg

5 out of 5 eggsAlways will be awesome!!

Pros: This is what the 1st one should of looked like. Really polished and runs awesome on my A8 3500. I think this will always be a great franchise cause it was the birth of FPS. Some of the gameplay is outdated can't switch guns while firing and the health stations but it reminds you of a simplier time

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Buy it

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible. The graphics are WORSE than the original

Pros: New features: Achievements, 3d support, new faces on characters, and tweaked lighting (aka brighter rooms)

Cons: The textures are actually worse than the original game. Ive compared screenshots taken in the same resolution and settings, and the Original Doom 3 has slightly higher resolution textures than BFG does.

For a game thats being advertised as an HD remake with upgraded and remastered visuals, this is a blatant lie.
Id software should be ashamed at this quick cash in

Other Thoughts: Save your money and get the original Doom 3 instead. Its cheaper, looks better, and also supports modding which BFG does not.

3 out of 5 eggsNot great, not horrible

Pros: There are a couple of good points--it includes the original doom games, and you don't have to spend any time configuring DOSBox to get them working. Doom3 includes an extra mission and has 1080p support from within the game. An inexpensive way to get the entire Doom series to date if you don't mind a dumbed-down Doom3 with greatly reduced audio quality.

Cons: Doom3 BFG doesn't support EAX and the sound quality and sound effects are noticeably inferior compared to the original Doom3. Graphics quality really doesn't seem improved over the original to me. This package is a triumph of quantity over quality.

Other Thoughts: The original Doom3 also supports 1080p via editing the config files.

You can now use a flashlight and a weapon at the same time, making the game easier. Yay. The question remains as to why any serious player would need or want this, as having to switch to the flashlight was a way the original game introduced a degree of necessary tension into the gameplay.
