Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Special Edition DVD-ROM PC Game

Arguably one of the greatest role-playing games thus far, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion raised the bar for future RPGs. The kindly Emperor of Tamriel, Uriel Septim, has been assassinated. It's up to you to uncover the dark secrets behind his death, and to seek the long-lost heir to the throne. Meanwhile, portals to hell –called Oblivion gates- have been opening up all over the place, unleashing unholy demons. The fate of Tamriel rests on you and Septim's unknown heir.

Like past Elder Scrolls games, Oblivion offers open-ended gameplay. Players can put off the main quest and complete dozens of side quests. Take your time; help out the local townsfolk. Players can also join up to five guilds and factions, each of which offers a number of quests. Explore the countryside and marvel at the breathtaking scenery. Those with powerful gaming rigs will especially benefit from Oblivion's stunning visuals.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Collector's Edition comes with a Pocket Guide to the Empire booklet and a bonus DVD, which includes a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the game. This Collector's Edition is a must-have for any Elder Scrolls fan.

Features

Features
Oblivion is a single-player game that takes place in Tamriel's capital province, Cyrodiil. You are given the task of finding the hidden heir to a throne that sits empty, the previous emperor having been killed by an unknown assassin. With no true Emperor, the gates to Oblivion (the equivalent of hell in the world of Tamriel) open, and demons begin to invade Cyrodiil and attack its people and towns. It's up to you to find the lost heir to the throne and unravel the sinister plot that threatens to destroy all of Tamriel.
In keeping with the Elder Scrolls tradition, players will have the option to experience the main quest at their own pace, and there will be plenty of opportunities to explore the vast world and make your own way. Numerous factions can be joined, such as the thieves or mages guilds, and each contains its own complete storyline and the chance to rise to the head of the faction and reap further rewards.

5 out of 5 eggsAn excellent game, ESPECIALLY for $10.

Pros: -Open ended RPG
-Good stories
-Fun game play
-Extremely modable with a huge mod community behind it
-Intro by Patrick Stewart!!!

It's really hard to just list out all of the awesome points about this game. I think with the way it was created, it's good for hard core gamers and casual gamers despite how involved the game can get. If you're concerned you'll get it and not like it, it's $10. You'd almost have to try to not get $10 worth of enjoyment out of this game.

Cons: Unfortunately for this game, it was released during a big graphics boom. Graphics hardware was becoming better and more affordable, while at the same time the ability to program better graphics was becoming easier. This game, unfortunately, suffers from predictable enemy placement and rather short major side quests. For example, figure that in Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall if you wanted to become head of the Mages Guild, you're going to spend all week doing it. In Oblivion it'll take the better part of a Saturday.

My theory is that if that hadn't had to work so hard to make the graphics and physics so awesome, these issues would have been addressed.

Other Thoughts: It's $10. Just get it already.

3 out of 5 eggsNo Longer My Cup of Tea

Pros: Good game, nice graphics, etc. Very nice for this genre.

Cons: Time consuming. Seems to take forever to do stuff.

Other Thoughts: I used to love these types of games but I guess my appetite has moved on - I simply don't enjoy them like I used to. Having said that, if you like these types of games, this is a nice one, worthy of purchasing.

4 out of 5 eggsOblivion is huge

Pros: The free egg saver shipping only took 3 business days and so I wouldn't recommend paying an extra for the 3 day shipping(I live in NY and they shipped it from California) The game is HUGE! (but there are drawbacks). The game is also very fun to play and there's nothing like smacking the heck out of a goblin with a huge two handed mace. Very fun game because you can customize your own character the way you want him/her to be. Also since this is a special edition game you get a free coin and a "pocket guide" to the world of Oblivion and you also get a dvd full of bonus materials. So if you're in to collecting swag then I would recommend this version of the game. However if you just want to play the game and do not want the extras save yourself a few dollars and get the regular version.

Cons: Because the game is huge it takes forever to get anywhere (I've only been playing for a few hours but even with a horse your character moves very slow)

Other Thoughts: Overall I would recommend this game , however it does take a long time to get to where you need to go (maybe there's faster travel later in the game?)

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Was a benchmark for video quality when it came out.
Incredibly module. Just look for tesnexus on google.
Expansive.
Lots of side jobs to do. The main story can be completed in about 7 hours but there's a plethora of things to do afterwards.
Fun.

Cons: The leveling system is absolutely horrid and ruins gameplay and immersion. If you're about level 20, expect to be fighting The Flash because everyone runs 100MPH. The good thing is that you can always just get a mod to rework this system like OOB.
Had some stability problems and tons and tons of bugs when it came out. Patches have fixed about everything.

Other Thoughts: Don't cheat, even once. It ruins the experience.

5 out of 5 eggsRPG heaven

Pros: Immersion. That sums it up pretty well, as everything in the game makes for an almost historical realism. From the ruins/ dungeons (which are different from one another by the way), to the first person combat system, to the quests, though shorter than i would like. The Dark Brotherhood, in particular, as well as the Thieves Guild quests were quite impressive, with their unexpected twists and turns throughout. Lip-synced and voiced, more intelligent AI, the NPCs were actually semi-intrigung, unlike most RPGs' NPCs. Beautiful graphics, incredibly detailed and textured, distant land is awesome. Good music, shapes the mood of the game relative to where you are or what's going on. High level of customization of your character, with dozens of sliders with which to customize everything about your character's appearance.

Again, something nearly perfected by this game is immersion. Well, at least until virtual reality takes some more leaps forward.

Cons: Somewhat short quests, few guilds to join, maybe four. In Morrowind you could join anything but the Sixth house(unfortunately), from the imperial legion to a vampire clan. Needs more NPCs, these battles that are supposed to be huge and epic have like 12 warriors against 20 daedra. It would be much better if it had been more like 120 warriors (or more) against 200 daedra, all at once. Cities are lucky to have 50 NPCs residing in them. The Imperial City probably has no more than 100 people in it, total. You can know every NPC in Cyrodiil by name (except for randomly generated guards). Maybe add an additional 0 to the amount of NPCs in the game, and realism would go up. from 1000 to 10000 would be quite nice. This is the capital of Tamriel, after all. Also, there are a ton of races other than Imperials in the Imperial province.

Other Thoughts: Incredible Game, I was one of the first to get it. I got it with T for teen still on the box and disc, before the rating change. If I had to guess, I would say that I have spend nearly 1000 hours on this game, as everything from an Acrobat to a Warrior. And I still find places that I have not been before, and quests that I have not done. Truly a game to take away all of your time. :)

5 out of 5 eggsJust play it, its good for anyone

Pros: Very interesting story line. Very good quality gameplay. Keep you entertained for hours. I logged about 400 hours on this game one the Xbox 360. I can honestly say it takes that long to do absolutely EVERYTHING, and I didnt even have all of the add ons. Its's like crack but without WOW.

Cons: Dungeons are drab and boring. If you've seen one, you've seen just about all of them and in most cases it wasnt worth the trip. High requirments

Other Thoughts: Story is short compaired with previous Elder Scrolls titles. I'm waiting on a new video card so I can play this on PC and build with the Construction set.

Pros: When you first get the game it will be your best friend, but then after a while you will never touch the game again...i dont because i am guessing ive put into it more than 200 hrs.

Cons: Get boring kinda fast, just go torrent it instead of buying it.
System requiremts are pretty big. but i can play max w/o any fram drops.

Other Thoughts: I have a 6000+ X2, 8800gts 320mb, ASUS 570 sli mobo, 3 GB ddr2 pc6400. playing it at 1400 x 1050 (20"LCD)
