The Plot - Grand Theft Auto IV is a brand new adventure in the GTA universe following the experiences of Nikolai Niko Bellic, a new immigrant from an undisclosed eastern European country whose troubled past and the persuasion of his cousin Roman have brought him to the fictional Liberty City. Unfortunately, Niko's search for the American Dream and a much needed fresh start, hits an immediate snag when the rags to riches story Roman spun to pique Niko's interest is exposed as not only a complete fabrication, but a ploy to enlist Niko's well-known skills as a tough guy against the ample list of enemies clamoring for Roman's debt-ridden blood. Because Roman is the only person Niko knows in Liberty City he begrudgingly accepts his role as Roman's protector despite the deception. But as time goes on Niko comes into his own, and his experience on the wrong side of the tracks proves more valuable than he could have ever imagined as he fights for survival and later supremacy on the crime ridden streets of Liberty City.

Game Environments - Based on several of the boroughs of New York City and parts of New Jersey, Liberty City, familiar to players of previous games in the series, has been entirely redesigned for GTA IV. Players can expect visible detail down to the weeds growing in the cracks in the sidewalk, cars and buildings of visibly different ages and a much greater level if verticality in the buildings and bridges that they are able to explore as Niko moves through the city streets. In addition, pedestrians in GTA IV are much more realistic. No longer simply moving cardboard cutouts, these NPCs are intelligent, modern, human representations that laugh, cry, eat, drink, use cell phones and As, and talking amongst themselves regardless of Niko's interaction with them.

Gameplay - Historically GTA games have focused heavily on mission-based play, requiring successful completion of fixed tasks in order for players to progress through the

1 out of 5 eggsWOW

Pros: Looks great when running.

Cons: Cannot seem to get the bugs worked out. My Phenom 2 965 overclock to 3.8 and four gigs or ddr3 1600 adata and the video card is a 4890 seems to crash alot. You would think that my pc would run this hum.

3 out of 5 eggsGTA4 PC Update to hmm...

Pros: After patch 1.0.7.0, or whatever the newest patch is, things are slightly better. No longer have to be logged into social club or games for windows live in order to save your game. Plays fairly well on an Athlon 64X2 4000+ AM2, 2GB single channel DDR2 667 stick of memory and an HD 4650 1GB DDR2 128 bit. Averaged 27+ FPS during the in game benchmarking utility with textures on high with some eyecandy eneabled @ 1024x768 on 32" LCD TV. Lots of cool reflections and pretty lag free overall.

Cons: All of the other previous hassles, patches, etc. . . Still no controller support other than the XBOX 360 PC controller, eventhough a patch was supposed to take care of this. SecuROM, need I say more. Obviously rushed to the PC market before the bugs were worked out.

Other Thoughts: If you are running older hardware like me, especially a dual core cpu, watch your running processes and cpu % utilization like a hawk. Keep that cpu % utilization very low, i.e. like less than 5-10%. This gave me about 15-18 FPS. For some reason the MS Works Calender Reminder process was hogging my cpu, and I don't know why. Also, I got this game to run well enough to reach Algonquin / 30 missions completed on the same system with only 1GB DDR2 533 in dual channel, Athlon 64X2 4000+ AM2, and an Ati X1650 512MB DDR2. With Fraps I was averaging about 10-22 FPS while driving, sometimes playable and not too aggravating, other times some big lag. Indoors was better. All settings were at their lowest on the X1650. On the 2GB RAM / HD4650 1GB rig the FPS is much better and I suspect 30+ under most conditions. It is actually pretty smooth. Running Vista Ultimate SP1.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome game

Pros: Runs great on my PC, 60 FPS at 1080p. Its running on 2x GTX 260 Superclocked in SLI and a Intel i7 at 3.2 GHz.

Cons: Shaders flicker a little, especially noticable inside some safehouses.

Other Thoughts: Too many people try to play this game on their 4 year old dilapidated computers, of course it isnt going to run correctly on that. Stop complaining and get a new computer if you want to play new games on it.

1 out of 5 eggsHELP ME/MY POOPYPANTS

Pros: It didn't blow up my computer when I installed it, although my computer blowing up might have had some entertainment value compared to absolutely nothing happening. To be honest I can't say absolutely nothing has happened for I have filled out quite a few forms. Is this some kind of diabolical scheme to get me riled out for good game play?

Cons: Still unable to play the game. Still filling out forms. I did skin the neighbors cat during a frustrating break earlier this evening but given I have been unable to play the game my actions can hardly be blamed on playing a game like this.

Other Thoughts: Notice I did admit to possessing a Low understanding of hmmmmmmmmmmmm not playing the game but I should point out I do have an extensive understanding of filling out forms that I really don't understand, I mean shouldn't there be an antisocial club one could join? Even beside the point of the nature of this game just filling out a bunch of forms makes me want to join an antisocial club as opposed to the other one.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat low frame rate?

Pros: This game is an absolute blast to play with a bunch of friends. There's no rules, if you can think it up, you can do it. Getting a group of guys together and just raising havoc thorough the town is a great way to relax after a long day of work.

Cons: My wife won't let me play it in front of the kids...

Other Thoughts: I've got 3 machines that run this game smooth as silk. One is an E2180 @ 3.3GHz with a 9600GSO, one is an E3200 @ 3.5GHz with an 8800GT, and the third is an E8600 @ 4.2GHz with a GTX-260. Obviously they don't all play with settings maxed out, but the slowest one plays with reasonable settings and benches around 35 FPS. I don't know why some people have such a hard time getting playable framerates out of this game with semi-modern hardware.
