for avid joe suggestion
- Pros: Game looks better on the PC and if you have a x360 controller it will run it. I use a ideazon merc stealth keyboard and a G9 mouse. For your problem it is your HT not the ati 4870 that is the issue. An 8800gt has only 512mb and will not outrun your 4870. Your HT on that 6000+ cpu is limiting your video output. You need a PCI 2.0 cpu ht and board to take full advantage of your video card.
- Cons: If you want max viewing distance you will exceed 1.5 gb video ram. You do not need crossifre or sli for this game so save your money. It is video memory that makes the difference. My one son has a gtx295 and it stutters the same as the 4870x2 in this game. The single gpu cards with more than 1.5 gb ram are the way to go for either Nvidia or ATI.
- Other Thoughts: If you prefer NVidia and some do I would suggest the MSI lightning with 700 mhz and 1792 ram. I did not know of this card before getting my 4890 2gb saphire. However my 4890 2gb is smooth as butter and combined with my amd 965 this game is maxed out period. I am sure the MSI lightning will not dissappoint.
Dumb Swinging Loopy Camera Angles
- Pros: Interesting city with lots of nooks and passages and buildings to explore.
- Cons: The dumb loopy swinging camera angle that is getting worse in every edition of GTA is making this version nearly unplayable. You're always having to manually adjust it because it'll nearly always either swing too high or too low or off to one side or to some other angle that has you looking anywhere but where you want to looking.
- Other Thoughts: The annoyance of the multiple log ins and high system requirements don't bug me as much as most people here. It's whatever fool at Rockstar that has decided that I want to zoom in to a ground level closeup of my vehicle's rear tire when I'm trying to see down the street that I'd like to give a mighty boot to the rear to.
Better on my PC
- Pros: I have both the x360 and pc version. When I saw it on my oldest son's PC for $27 I had to have it. He was using a 4870 2gb with max viewing. So went further and got 2 Saphire 2gb 4890 for crossfire. The 2gb matters the crossfire a waste of $249. The game is great for the most part.
- Cons: Cannot do add ons like my x360. Does not use sli or crossfire. I did not like the interuptions by side missions when being on a different mission. I had no bugs using an ATI 4890 2gb car with amd 965 and 8 gb of ocz amd edition on a MSI 790FX GD70 board. The system was nearly 40% less than the Nvidia system I built for my youngest son. A Q9650 with gtx 295, and evga board 790 ultra with ddr3. The AMD system is in fact faster on the Nvida online 3dmark which made nio sense at all.
- Other Thoughts: You do not need an I7 or an AMD 965 to play this game. I would though go with a 4870/4890 2gb card or GTX 275 1792mb or GTX 285 2gb if you are 1920 X 1080. This game looks sweet at those resolutions. My x360 cannot touch that at 720p. I also can play either with my ideazon keyboard or my x360 controller. The 360 has no such claim. For $27 it is a great game.

The Plot - Grand Theft Auto IV is a brand new adventure in the GTA universe following the experiences of Nikolai Niko Bellic, a new immigrant from an undisclosed eastern European country whose troubled past and the persuasion of his cousin Roman have brought him to the fictional Liberty City. Unfortunately, Niko's search for the American Dream and a much needed fresh start, hits an immediate snag when the rags to riches story Roman spun to pique Niko's interest is exposed as not only a complete fabrication, but a ploy to enlist Niko's well-known skills as a tough guy against the ample list of enemies clamoring for Roman's debt-ridden blood. Because Roman is the only person Niko knows in Liberty City he begrudgingly accepts his role as Roman's protector despite the deception. But as time goes on Niko comes into his own, and his experience on the wrong side of the tracks proves more valuable than he could have ever imagined as he fights for survival and later supremacy on the crime ridden streets of Liberty City.
Game Environments - Based on several of the boroughs of New York City and parts of New Jersey, Liberty City, familiar to players of previous games in the series, has been entirely redesigned for GTA IV. Players can expect visible detail down to the weeds growing in the cracks in the sidewalk, cars and buildings of visibly different ages and a much greater level if verticality in the buildings and bridges that they are able to explore as Niko moves through the city streets. In addition, pedestrians in GTA IV are much more realistic. No longer simply moving cardboard cutouts, these NPCs are intelligent, modern, human representations that laugh, cry, eat, drink, use cell phones and As, and talking amongst themselves regardless of Niko's interaction with them.
Gameplay - Historically GTA games have focused heavily on mission-based play, requiring successful completion of fixed tasks in order for players to progress through the |
