The eighth release in the Tomb Raider series takes you back to the beginning with a remake of the original, ground-breaking 1996 adventure. Building on the strengths – and engine - of Tomb Raider: Legend, Anniversary recaptures the feel of the original while creating an experience that reflects the advances in game technology. Everyone's favorite sexy, smart archeologist is on the hunt for the parts of the Scion of Atlantis in a journey that will take her from forgotten tombs and ancient cities in Peru, Greece, Egypt and beyond.
While the levels and locations are the same as in the original, they are so much bigger and with added content that they'll provide challenges for even the most die-hard fan of the original game. And, each environment has been rendered to the fullest for breathtaking detail only hinted at in the original.
Lara is able to move in all three dimensions as she performs feats of acrobatics in order to solve – and survive – massive ancient traps and puzzles. Shimmy along ledges, scramble up sheer faces and swing from ropes as you work your way towards the goal. The environments aren't the only adversary that must be overcome as numerous human, animal and mutated opponents – including the fierce Tyrannosaurus Rex – have it in for Lara. Combine Lara's agility with her trusty twin pistols in the new adrenaline dodge which slows attackers at a critical moment. It's time to go back to the beginning – it's bigger and better.

Great game
- Pros: Having played the original Tomb Raider I was excited to get a chance to go back and play it again, but this time on a completely new (and better) engine.
Would recommend to anyone who has played any of the previous tomb raider games and would like to see what the original was all about.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I don't know what happened to the other guy who was having problems running the games, but I have had none at all. Runs silky smooth on my system.
- Pros: As an 'Old Timer' who loved the original TR, it was a blast to play this game in a new updated version. The story line is the same, but the graphics are sooooo much better, and on a 27" monitor at 1920x1200,the game looks better than I ever would have imagined. I have a pretty strong system, so the play is very smooth. If you liked the original, you'll love this game. I felt a kind of nostalgia when I first started playing it, like meeting up with an old friend.
- Cons: The only real disappointment with this game is the controls scheme. The game doesn't seem to work perfectly on either a gamepad or a mouse/keyboard setup, so I find myself using a combination of all three. That could be my own fault. This is the first third-person type game I've played in ages, so maybe I'm just not used to it.
- Other Thoughts: For all those who cut their gaming teeth on the old TR series, this is simply a must-have game. When the game began and I heard that great Tomb Raider music, a big grin cut across my face. Well done Eidos!

Lara back on top
- Pros: This game is eggxellent. I was skeptical at first, as the last TR game I played was Angel of Darkness (Phhtt!). I was elated once I finally started playing this game. The graphics are beautiful and really give a feeling of large, impressive levels. Runs almost perfect on my system (see below) @ 1280x1024. Very challenging puzzles. Really does the Tomb Raider series justice, and a great throwback to the original (original outfit is back 2).
- Cons: Sometimes it's hard to control Lara's jumping direction during wall runs.
- Other Thoughts: My rig: AMD 6000+ | 2 x XFX 7900 GTs (SLI) | Gigabyte M59SLI S5 | 2 Gigs G. Skill DDR2 800 RAM @ 4-4-3-5 | Thermaltake Toughpower 700W PSU | Tuniq Tower 120 | Seagate 320 Gig HD. Every once in a while there is a hiccup, but for the most part my frame rate stays in 50-60 range with settings maxed out. Beautiful game.
