Pros: Was almost free with rebate
Fast on SSD drive.

Cons: Crashes every 4-6 times I use it (much improved from every 2-3 times).
Support was virtually useless.
This product was once almost bulletproof; now in terms of reliability it's like getting hit with a bullet.
Only upgraded to 14 from 12 to install on SSD; almost no important changes in 2 versions.
Probably my last version of Paperport - looking at alternatives; something I should have done as soon as Nuance bought it.

Other Thoughts: I installed this on a newly built machine with attention paid to a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate w/ no unneeded extras. For sure I thought all the complaints about this product were unjustified....and I have been a user of PaperPort since around V6 I think- it has been a primary program for me. Worked great at first except it installed no less than 4 versions of MS Visual C+, then with updates, it settled at 15 versions. Then a Flexnet updater as well. It still worked fine and I was happy until the performance steadily decreased, becoming slower until it became unproductive. Went through all the troubleshooting, 2 proper re-installs, etc. Nuance Cust Svc? Good luck. Unless you can get this for $30 (and the rebate took 14 weeks) I can't recommend it. Could be fixed (IF the install/reinstall works as it should, which it didnt in my case, again good luck with Nuance CS) but no way is it worth the time to troubleshoot- there is a better product out there.

Cons: Customer Support is TERRIBLE. I wanted to reinstall my legitimately owned copy of PaperPort too many times according to the company. I usually do a clean install when I upgrade my hardware including mobos and hard drives/SSDDs. They denied my online verification.

Other Thoughts: Avoid Nuance. They are worthless.

Cons: I've returned both PaperPort 14 Professional and PDF Converter 7 for a refund.

What the good folks at Nuance are missing is that their product is NOT ready for prime-time and I don't see where I should be spending a couple of three hours trying to install their product else I would have charged Nuance to do so - all on a standard Windows 7 Ultimate PC (Asus Rampage Mobo, 8GB of RAM, an Intel Quad Q9550 CPU, AMD Radeon HD6700 display adapter and with plenty of free HDD space - oh yes, and with all updates in place) - If their product can't install because of other Nuance products (which is what their tech. folks are saying), I think they need to turn it over to Homer Simpson and call it a day.

Sadly, I've used PaperPort for 15 years and loved it.

Other Thoughts: Nuance's tech support via email is pokey and quite incremental. In my case they had me uninstalling other Nuance software (twice) to try the reinstall.
