NUANCE PDF Converter 8.0

Pros: It converts documents but not more than that

Cons: Doesn't allow you to edit documents as the professional version does.
I guess if you are looking just for a conversion software is is fine. But got spoiled with professional version and was greatly disappointing with this product.

Other Thoughts: I bought Nuance pdf Converter 8.0 Professional and just love that product. Nuance PDF converter 8.0 is a waste of time, save your money for the professional version which works just great!!!!!

Pros: Love the software from V. 6.0 forward even tho' it's a bit cumbersome. I'm a WordPerfect holdout, and WP's Reveal Codes function fits hand-in-glove with PDF Converter. Also, I have to revise my classroom materials annually -- up to 100 pages -- and PDF Converter saves me so much time and pain. Don't know how well it works with MS Word or other word processing programs.

Cons: Fraudulent rebate offers through Helgeson

Did two rebates recently, PDF Converter and another software program. Filled out all the forms, included all required materials, and was refused on both for bogus "date" claims. The Nuance rejection letter said, "The purchase date on the sales receipt does not fall within the program dates." The outside date for this rebate was March 25th, as was the date on my Newegg invoice.

The other software's rejection letter stated: "Purchase date on the sales receipt is missing." My original receipt and its photocopies clearly demonstrated otherwise.

What these two purchases have in common is the company that handles the rebates:

I emailed Helgeson from their website; haven't heard anything from them. I emailed Nuance with copies of everything previously submitted, and Nuance's customer service recently contacted me with the news that my Nuance rebate will be honored...roughly four months after the purchase date and untold time and frustration getting this company to hold up their end of the deal.

I still haven't heard from the other software vendor.

Deal is, if we let companies get away with cheating us individually, they'll continue to keep doing what they're doing to us as groups of consumers. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the State Attorneys General Offices in California and Minnesota to register my complaints against Helgeson.

Other Thoughts: Despite the time and aggravation, always follow through to get what's advertised, to get what's rightfully yours.

Pros: cannot find anything useful. converts pdf text files easily - of course - but OCR capability is disappointing. 10 year old Paperport worked reasonably well. Altenative software is better choice.

Cons: the registration software is nasty. it crippled my netbook. there must have been 1000 line entries of "flexnet" in the registry which I had to remove one by one. could not find the removal software discussed on net. computer would no longer hibernate. battery sucked dry twice as fast. this is virusware at best.

Other Thoughts: a waste of time and money

Pros: for those who cannot deal with a free convertor this may be useful

Cons: I had the 5.0 Professional version of this product
ordered 8.0 because they regularly harass you with upgrade offers and tell you how the older versions are no longer recommended for use with windows 7. I uninstalled the older version, and installed the new one -- this lacks the pdf application -- only the convertor -- the features in the convertor are easily availble from MS Office and Google, so it is useless given the current versions of the products.
Tried to uninstall and install the 5.0 Pro version back. It will not launch and Nuance refuses to offer support
My only option seems to be to dump it or reinstall windows and start over

Other Thoughts: would not buy products from this company again

Pros: FAST!! Have had previous versions and this one is far faster. Manipulating PDF's is a snap. I have had the program at work for about a month or so and the program meets all my needs. My only hope is that Nuance, notorious for treating customers like criminals off the bat, will kindly refrain from booting my license key in erratic fashion as they did in previous versions. There is a point when having to buy new keys so Nuance can protect their product from real thieves becomes an unbearable costly nuisance. Luckily I forgive easily.

Cons: The only con is the real possibility Nuance will find a way to make a good program into a trap for software thieves to the detriment of paying customers.

Other Thoughts: This program will definitely meet your needs. I have tried various programs and they are adequate but not as well put together as this pdf program in my opinion.
