4 out of 5 eggsI like this functionality

Pros: Gets the speech to the page. This tool is helping me to create more natural dialog elements in my young adult fiction novel.

Cons: It is a bit challenging for the application to learn "new" words. I'm creating a fictional world with fictional names, and the "learning" tool isn't recognizing my made up dictionary. I can live with that, tho.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad it was on sale for $19 when I purchased it, otherwise I still wouldn't have it.

1 out of 5 eggsNo guarantee you will receive a good Serial Number

Pros: None so far

Cons: Can't get a download from Nuance because they say the serial number I purchased through NewEgg is not valid. NewEgg is no help. So far, they have told me to contact Nuance. Nuance website not friendly. Process still in progress.

I have just sent in a rebate with everything correctly enclosed but, according to other reviews, I should not expect to get my rebate any time soon, if at all.

All in all, a pretty frustrating and disappointing shopping experience so far. I'll update should that change.

Other Thoughts: I purchased the product on a sale which turned out to be an OEM copy of Dragon. Usually not a problem, but this one is feeling like a real rip-off. NewEgg should stand by what it sells and not pawn problems off on the manufacturers.

1 out of 5 eggsDragon 12 Bad Activation Code (Solved, but LESS THAN ZERO help from Nuance!)

Pros: Does it matter if they won't own up to promised rebate, and activation key as sent won't work, and tech support can't read plain English on problems and instead sends unrelated answer to some other question I never asked, and the website is a royal pain, and shall I keep going?

Cons: I was sent a key that would not work. After going in endless cirlcles on website, which was designed to be a useless labyrinth, I sent very precise and detailed explanation by email to their tech support. What I got back was a random unrelated and useless answer. Fortunately, after comparing key to another copy, I decided to change one letter in the activation key, and VOILA! it loaded. So how do you do the same? If you got an activation key that begins with K409B-G00-nnnn-nnnn-nn to K409A. Switching the B to and A (as I had found on other activation key) made it load. I don't care if Nuance wants to have a hissy or claim my key is not legal. It worked, and they can kiss my you-know-what since both their tech support AND their website is nothing by a giant frustration and time-waster. If your key won't work, and first part of activation key has a "B", try changing it to an "A". If that doesn't work, join the masses who wish they had never bought this.

Other Thoughts: I have been doing self-employed and successful hardware, OS, network, virus and application tech support for over 25 years. This products sets a whole new low watermark for aggravation. Still waiting on my rebate. It was approved, but promised delivery in 30 days is now in day 29. Look for another post if that doesn't show up, which seems like a classic scam from Nuance (check other comments).

4 out of 5 eggsGood product

Pros: Product arrived on time. Headset included in the box. Running on Alienware MX-17R3 with 6GB RAM. Software runs smoothly, no hiccups. Speech recognition is almost spot on, makes a few mistakes here and there but gets things right, better than 90% of the time. Product was sold with $40 rebate. I was worried after reading some other reviews that the rebate would not show up. Rebate arrived approximately 8 to 9 weeks after I mailed in forms. Got the card... am a happy camper to get this product for a final cost of $2.99. As a first time user of speech recognition software, I didn't want to spend a large sum on a product I had never used before, or not knowing if I would like it. Small price to pay for an older version of Nuance's DNS.

Cons: Can't complain much. First time user of speech dictation software. Works better than the windows version.

1 out of 5 eggsCan't Activate

Pros: None

Cons: Evidently this product must be activated by the seller before you can activate it online. When I found out that the store had not activated it at the time of purchase Nuance Refused to allow the product to be activated. They said I had to get the store to activate it or send them a copy of the receipt. Since the receipt was long gone by that time and I was not going to try and get the store to activate the product I threw the junk away.

Other Thoughts: I have never in over 30 years in the software field run into such a stupid activation procedure. The fact that Nuance had no interest in resolving the problem made sure that I will Never use their products in the future, nor will I recommend them.
If they require special handling they should Not sell their product at stores where the employees probably do not have any idea about it.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat software

Pros: Haven't used naturallyspeaking since the days it was not owned by Nuance. That was about 10 years ago. This new version works fantastic.

Cons: PICE OF SHEET headset. Makes sure you buy your own.

Other Thoughts: If you haven't use voice dictation software recently you should give Dragon a chance.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't install; nothing but excuses from Nuance

Pros: None. Total unabashed piece of manure.

Cons: Won't even install.

Other Thoughts: Considering the many free online and cell phone voice recognition options, I expected this rather expensive program to work flawlessly.

Instead, I learned only after buying that it won't work with the built in microphone on my high-end (or any)laptop. Having to lug around a clunky headset diminishes its usefullness by 98%.

So I tried it with the included headset, which the program said would not work either, despite the fact that it worked fine with Windows Sound Recorder and Skype.

So I called Nuance, only to find out they offer no support on weekends. When I called on Monday (no toll-free support, by the way), I was told that a laptop's headset input isn't good enough, and I should get a USB headset adapter.

So I ordered a USB headset, which arrived today, plugged in the headset provided by Nuance, and was able to at least get the headset recognized. But the next step, to check the quality failed - twice. It says the quality of the microphone supplied with the program is insufficient. I give up!
