Video Must be 1024x768 or Better - 10.1" Netbooks Beware!
Pros: Very good training program, let's you track many different users, friendly and easy to use.
Cons: NewEgg has the video specs right, don't believe Broderbund's web site and package claim that the minimum video resolution requirement is 800x600. Mavis 20 Platinum does not run on Aspire One with the 1024x600 screen. Errors out at launch of program. Broderbund User Forum admin stated that PCs must meet the recommended 1024x768 resolution to work and that meeting the 800x600 minimum requirement is not sufficient.

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Platinum 20
Cons: This product continues to be a re-hash of previous versions of Mavis Beacon. As a computer teacher, students found it to be frustrating to use, especially when being tested on keys that they've never had. Trying to reach the people who actually put these editions together is more difficult than reaching the President of the U.S. Never admitting to creating a program that is more glitz than function, the company doesn't incorporate as much sequential learning style that benefits the end-user. Some of the much older versions actually are better than newer ones.
Other Thoughts: The Broderbund people have forgotten what the goal of this software should be, and are more concerned with rolling out the next version. The consumer may mistakenly assume that the software engineers were listening to them on this rollout and added more useful features. Hmmm! Wake up, gang, and get it right next time.

Mavis Beacon teaches typing platinum 20
Pros: Beautiful program when it works
Cons: It starts running in circles and becomes useless. It loses track of where you are in the lessons and starts giving whole keyboard tests fairly early on. Then it starts reteaching keys you've already learned. Broderbund says this is a known issue and a fix isn't planned. This is a shocking response. It borders on fraud.
Other Thoughts: Do Not buy this program
