Torchlight is an exciting new action role playing game, from the designers and leads of Diablo, Diablo II, Fate, and Mythos! This hack-and-slash adventure is set in the mining settlement of Torchlight, a town founded on the discovery of a rare and mysterious ore called Ember. This valuable ore has the power to enchant and corrupt but its value is such that many are willing to risk their lives for it. Now, miners have uncovered Torchlight's buried past: a dangerous labyrinth of caverns, monsters, and ruined civilizations beneath the ground that have been corrupted by Ember's dark influence.

As Evil threatens to overrun the town, a Champion is needed. Players will have the opportunity to save the town of Torchlight, battling through rock and fire, through lost cities, and across ancient tombs on a perilous journey to cleanse the mines. As one of three Character Classes, Players will explore randomly generated dungeon levels, battle a huge variety of monsters, and pursue endless variations of fame and fortune.

The Ember beckons - how will you answer?

2 out of 5 eggsPass on this one

Pros: Relatively low price, easy to learn, pretty graphics, cute animation (the skeletons running at you with their arms outreached are hilarious!)

Cons: Quite possibly the worst user interface of any game I have ever played! Your left mouse button is used to move, attack, pick up loot, open doors and chests, and activate levers. The problem with this is that when you click to perform a ranged attack against something, you may attack it, or you may miss slightly and run right into the mass of bad guys! You cannot rotate your view, nor can you zoom out enough to see what is attacking you from just out of view. Your pets constantly get hung up on terrain, never to be seen again, until you loop back and find them. The story itself is very very minimal, and the quests are a total joke: go to level 30 and kill so and so, or get this item. Oh, and whose idea of a sick joke was it to allow you to sell quest items to a vendor, never to see them again? Ranged attacks get blocked by almost any object (like campfires, chests, and even cracks in the floor!), forcing you to constantly chase bad guys around. The knock-back effect of many

Other Thoughts: weapons constantly knock bad guys through walls, or traps them behind terrain obstacles where attacks are now blocked, making killing them extremely difficult. While the graphics are very pretty, the dungeon levels are simply the same 5 or 6 maps repeated over and over and over, with only slight modifications. There is also no continuity between levels. Level's 1, 3, and 5 might be a swamp, while levels 2, 4, and 6 might be an outdoor fortress surrounded in lava! And keep in mind, the story line tells you are are in a mine deep in a mountain! As you level, so do the monsters you are fighting, eventually acquiring so many hit points that the time it takes to kill each one makes the game become very tedious and boring.

4 out of 5 eggsInteresting

Pros: The game play is very smooth, I didn't notice any glitches while playing, I did download the latest updates from encores website before playing. The storyline is pretty good the dialogue starts out a little cheesy but I really started to enjoy it as the game progressed, especially the journal entries. The graphics while not high end are ok, the color control in this game however is amazing and I think it makes it easy to get used to the game well enough to enjoy the experience, Encore must have a very talented art department.

Cons: The music is not very good, in fact I found it pretty annoying most of the time, I was surprised by this because the same guy who composed the music for Starcraft Diablo and most of WOW created the soundtracks for this game, I suppose some things don't get better with age.

The Boss fights are generic, I would actually say the bosses and their attacks are lame not so much the setting in which the fights take place.

The merchants in town who sell weapons and armor are not scaled correctly, you might buy an item at lv 15 and it may be better than anything you might buy at lv 20.

The last con I found in this game is a minor one in fact its actually quite humorous when you encounter it. The random naming system for items is not very good and sometimes it will spit out item names like "epic ordinary sword" lol

Other Thoughts: When I bought this game I had just quit playing WOW which was around dec of 2010, so I was a little burnt out with this type of game play, I played it for about an hour then got bored and put it down for about 4 months before playing it through. So if you have a similar start don't chuck the game after an hour of play, it is a well made game that is very interesting you might just be a little worn out with similar mechanics that this game shares with so many others, but this game offers so much more and is worth playing it through.

5 out of 5 eggsGOOD DEAL - Modern Diablo Gameplay with hints of WoW stats & fishing

Pros: This has got to be the best $10 I spent in a long time. Although newegg has the boxed copy for $15.99, I bought the loose Jewel Case copy for $9.99 with free shipping. Unless you collect the boxes, you can save $6 buying the loose jewel case version while supplies last on newegg. Gameplay is EXACT to Diablo controls, Character & Inventory, and graphics are far better than Diablo with smooth modernized textures, lighting, and effects. This game also has some features of World of Warcraft that jumped out at me as interesting ( Fishing, Equipment Manager ( 2 weapon sets ), Stats ( such as played time, how many kills, steps walked, gold looted, etc.), and Fish Fished have Buffs 120 seconds to 600 seconds ( not sure why they dont just say 2 min and 10 min??? ) Also dont worry, you dont need to buy a fishing pole or learn fishing, you instantly get your pole out at fishing holes in the mine. Also a big + is no ammo needed for ranged. Also you get a pet which is nice and hinted like WoW.

Cons: Only 3 cons with this game. But none of them detract from the 5 star rating of a great game. #1 its only a single player game, and would be cool if you could team up with friends, although you do team up with AI's on quests. #2 Only 3 player types and you cant select Male or Female. The only female is a ranged archer, rest are male only =(. #3 With default audio settings, one of the npc's you interact with who is a female, her voice is hard to hear over the background music. Easy fix was to lower the background music from default so voices are more clear.

Other Thoughts: Cant wait for Torchlight II to come out in July 2011. Hoping they will add multiplayer functionality to it so you can team up with friends while also keeping gameplay NON-SUBSCRIPTION based. The $15 a month of WoW and the others has taken me for a mound of cash since November 2004. Also hoping they add emos if multiplayer and choice of Male or Female toons.

4 out of 5 eggsGood game hard to install

Pros: Great game play while waiting for DIII. No real cons, took a couple of days to solve the 1st part but dungeons go on forever and ever!!!

Cons: I thought game wouldn't install, i bought it again and same thing happened. Had to open the folder to get it working as it wouldn't autorun, that's why it got the 4 eggs. I bought it along with my new system and everything else installed easily.

5 out of 5 eggsFun Game w/Addicting Gameplay

Pros: * Wonderful character upgrade system
* Addicting game play
* Easy combat system
* Fun graphics

Cons: * Cartoony Images may disappoint
* Large group fights are visually hard to follow
* Only three initial classes to choose from
* Pets???

Other Thoughts: This is a great combination/merging of THQ's Titan Quest and the wonderful Diablo series. If you've played either of these games, then Torchlight will seem familiar. I like the ability to switch weapon systems in combat, similar to the Titan Quest game.

5 out of 5 eggslooooove this game

Pros: cost, game play, story line, graphics, etc. my wife don't normally like my kind of games but she has taken a liking to 'rise of the argonauts' and this game. personally i absolutely enjoy this game. i have so many game, most of which i really enjoy playing but this one truly stands out amongst the best. yes the graphics is cartoonly but i just love the graphics. it reminds me of a game (don't remember the name) that me n some friends use to play on the play station 2. if you want to play this game on very hard or above i promise you that u will need a bit of help. i decided to try this -C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData\Roaming\runic games\torchlight and open 'settings.txt' i looked for console :0 n change the 0 to 1 then save it. then i went in the game in game play n hit ctrl+shift+~ and type some online codes. yup it's a good thing i did that cause that game is super hard when played at this level.
i maxed out the game with my new xfx 5970 b.e clocked @ 800mhz/1100 mhz

Cons: well i do have 1 gripe with this game. this game comes with a protection called 'tages protection' and truth be told, if i knew that this game had it, i may not have bought the game. put simply i can't play the game without the cd or the game crashes. a back up won't work. i tried a number of back up softwares but nothing worked. so even with my legally bought software i can't make a legitimate backup which the laws entitles me to do. i don't understand how it is that the law hasn't stepped in to stop this unlawful activity with these companies. the law says 1 thing yet they deny me the right that i am entitled to, yet nothing on the box says that such a software is on the game n that i wont be able to make a working backup. something needs to be done under the law to correct that.
none the less i do enjoy this game n am playing it over a second time @ the moment.

Other Thoughts: i have to be xtremely careful not to get the cd scratch for then i would have to try and get the manufacturer to send me another copy which i am almost certain will not happen which means i will have to buy another copy.... that's crooked if u ask me.
with all the other stuff aside, this is a very great game.
buy it and try it and c if u like it. if you don't just return it....ooooops, u can't return software, go figure! naaaaw this is a great buy, if your taste is like mine you will have no trouble loving this game.
love newegg, great prices, great customer service great company.

5 out of 5 eggsvery nice psu

Pros: i was looking for a very silent psu and this is what i was looking for i can hear it at all the only way i can hear it is to put my bar a few inch away from it. alots of power and flat modularized cables. i love this psu.

Cons: None at the moment

Other Thoughts: my last psu was very loud and long did not like how long it was and loud so i bought this psu. this power supply is short and very quiet looks like it is very well built. cooler master is a very good quality power supply.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Game

Pros: The best single player dungeon crawl I have ever played.

Your pet is great, not just a gimmick, it can carry inventory, sell inventory for you and even cast spells and wear amulets/rings.

3 basic classes that have no real equipment restrictions (other than levels and attributes) any body can use any weapon/armour.

And a stash to share items with other characters you have built.

Cons: No multiplayer, but it was designed that way. Could use a little more character customizability (male/female versions of each)

Sometimes tough to find you charcter in the fray of a fight with lots of baddies.

Other Thoughts: Shift button locks your player, Alt toggles labelling of dropped items, you can even use the shift and click on loot to let your pet retrieve it for you if you are out of inventory room.

Carry lots of identify scrolls, well worth it for ID on the fly and then sending pet back to sell stuff you can't use.

3 out of 5 eggsFun Time Killer

Pros: Easy to figure controls out. Can share loot between your old characters with newly rolled character. Cheap price. I love the cartoon'ish look of the game.

Cons: The left mouse button is used for both char. movement, and using your weapons. I found I would move when I wanted to attack alot, thus pulling more monsters. That was horriblely frustrating. There is so much loot that you run out of bag space quickly. I spend more time then I would have liked managing the inventory. That just seemed to break the action of the game alot.

Other Thoughts: The game has a lot going for it, and for the price you can't really go wrong. If there was a way to "Plant" yourself during combat, and a more robust inventory system this game would get 5 eggs from me.
