Guild Wars: Factions is the second offering from NCSOFT in its award winning MMORPG franchise. Factions continues with the same basic design of game experience that made the original Guild Wars so popular. It does, however, present some new twists to the original that enhance and improve on a good thing. For example, two new classes have been added to the game, the Assassin and the Ritualist, but as always characters can combine these new classes with existing secondary ones and a wide selection of skills.
The Assassin is a dagger wielding teleporting class that can get up close and personal in a heartbeat while the Ritualist is a dark priest calling on the spirit world to channel the powers of the dead. Cooperative and PvP are no longer divided worlds in Faction and guilds draw from both styles of play to forge ahead in this stand alone expansion. Add to that a whole new continent to explore, new guild halls, new options in character appearances and several types of missions and Factions will continue to delight long time players and new fans.

Guild Wars: Factions
- Pros: *Unlike the original Guild Wars installment, Factions does a great job of educating the new players on the basics like calling targets, the agro circle, and stuff like that
*graphics, just like in the original, are AMAZING... my comp sucks and they're still beutifull *This version is meant to get u right into the action, so u get to lvl 20 A LOT faster than in Prophecies. For those of us who are vets of Prophecies this is a lot better than dragging along in presearing and ascalon or having someone run us. *the two new prof. area AWSOME i love my assasin ^^
- Cons: *The fact you get to lvl 20 so fast is good and bad. for those who bought factions as their first Guild Wars game they're gonna miss out on a lil something u get in prophecies, the satisfaction of lvling ur character. but its not much, and its the only thing i can say i anyone might not like about it.
- Other Thoughts: GET THIS GAME! but first GET GUILD WARs: PROPHECIES! you can get factions first but you will enjoy the experience much more if you play all the way through prophecies atleast once then get factions. youll apreciate the fast lvling a lot more as well, insead of feeling like u missed something.
- Pros: New classes, they rock. They also added new skills to the old characters, giving them a bit of an edge.
The new PvP areas are fun, and unlike the original version, the PvP areas do have a bit more skill than rush the healer and kill. The other great news is, the citys feels like a city. The original game was lacking in, 'wow' this is a big city. After a while it does get insane though...
- Cons: As said before, the PvE areas are killed. You truly do level up so fast it removes the sense of power. One of the worst parts is what they did to the skills. Instead of the original version of unlocking skills via quests, you have to buy the skills. This can quickly kill your cash.
Then, there are only 13 missions, and you can skip 2 of them. The original game had ~30 missions. I was sad there.
- Other Thoughts: I would of rated this game a 3/5 if it wasn't for the to new classes. The new classes do rock. Yes, there are more idiots than before in game as some people have said.

Great Series
- Pros: Great series of games. Well designed, cities and outposts, etc. are public domains. Once you leave the city the game is your own private instance for you and your party. Great players, helpful, good story line, good graphics. Holidays are fun, expect in game themes for the major holidays as well as gifts.
- Cons: All that awesome and still it's missing... something. Dunno. Can't occupy my attention for long stretches for some reason the way others do.
- Other Thoughts: I keep coming back to it though. It's a solid purchase and a real good time.
Factions
- Pros: This game compliments Guild Wars: Prophecies and Eye Of The North installments! The game itself is just beautiful to look at and the places you see and travel really feel like a journey. The cities in this one actually feel like cities.
The new professions, all i can say is: awesome! The assassin and the ritualist are great additions to the series.
Last but not least, one thing i came to love about it is alliance battles. They seem to be a pvp war! most fun with pvp i've had.
- Cons: You dont get skills from quests like you did in GW:Prophecies so you have to buy them all, which can be costly, you do however get gold for every quest just about. Because its bigger in scale it has a bit more lag than before but not too big a deal.
- Other Thoughts: This was shipped and got to me in about three days and i love it, was worth every penny.
Excellent
- Pros: Stand-alone expansion to Guild Wars: Prophecies. Guild Wars bring the f2p model to the West deserves praise in itself. Game takes place in an old-world Asia-type style. Fast leveling, you can get to lvl 10 just by doing the secondary profession quests.
- Cons: Fast leveling is not always a good thing. Cap is still lvl 20, nothing new. Buying this product of Guild Wars will make you want the others to compliment it.
- Other Thoughts: I love Guild Wars, and now that I have people to play with again I have been working through the campaigns. This campaign is the easiest to lvl through, so be aware you can hit 20 within a day if you try, or prolong it to longer if you want something to do.

If there's one thing that the team at ArenaNet wants to impress upon you regarding Guild Wars: Factions, it's that it's not an expansion pack.
Normally, we're trained to approach assertions like this one with an arched brow, but there's actually some truth to it in this situation.
Think of Guild Wars as a collectible card game. The first installment (which is called Guild Wars: Prophecies internally) was the "starter set," which established all the basic rules that would govern future installments.
ArenaNet is planning to release installments every six months, with Factions, slated for release April 28th, being the first. (There's a second installment currently in the works, which, if you do the math, you can expect near the holidays.) |
