1 out of 5 eggsFailing to recover in Window 7 64bit

Pros: Easy to backUp System just one click

Cons: When using Window 7 64bit SP1 during recovery process after widow rebooting I always have error message: " Failed to open an Archive My_System.tib" Click Retry to try to read from the same Location.

Other Thoughts: Better using window image backup.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed in change to 2011

Pros: I have been using TI software for a number of years and it has saved my bacon more than a few times. I updated from 2010 to 2011 thinking as always to keep the best of the best on my system.
It is backup/image software and can probably do the job in most cases, but the interface is now difficult to understand and appears incomplete.

Cons: The interface hides a lot of what the old versions delivered and when making back-ups or images, I don't have the confidence I used to have that everything I want protected is in fact protected.

Other Thoughts: I'm hoping that they will take to heart all the bad press and make changes to (or at least respond to the public with encouraging news for) the next version.

1 out of 5 eggsBUYER BEWARE

Pros: great software when it works... one egg because the review wont allow zero eggs.

Cons: I'm ticked. Bought one of your emailed promotional upgrades. Wouldnt install. Learned the promotion was misleading, so I requested a refund. repeated contacts to Acronis-just got runaround. So now I'm out 50 bucks and got NOTHING. I've been a faithful customer for several years, but I'm finished now. Except for sharing my plight with anyone who will listen.

Other Thoughts: I've used Acronis for several years and recommended the software to my clients. It usually works great; however, if it dont, it never will... absolutely no competent tech support. The last issue was an upgrade promotion. A small thing actually, but its ticked me off!! I've talked to 4 different support "partners"-- all proficient at providing a runaround. grrrrrr No resolution, No refund, No good.

5 out of 5 eggsAcronis True Image 2011

Pros: Before you buy it i suggest you try the trial version of this software on their website; try before you buy is always a plus. Turning partitions into images was very easy. When it involves the entire disk it will also copy the MBR. It also has special options when copying a partition (such as a bit by bit copy, which is what i needed). I only need it to make copies of partitions, not to make a regular backup of a partition.

Cons: images created aren't ima/img files, but they can be converted to a virtual hard drive image so that isn't a problem really.

Other Thoughts: There is a expansion on this software called True Image Home Plus 2011. The True Image Home Plus has more features, so look into that. I don't feel any sympathy for those who were upset with the software. If you have access online you can download the software and use the 30 day trial to see if this is what you need.

1 out of 5 eggsSo Disappointed

Pros: It's rather fast for an imaging software

Cons: The old Acronis was sooo much better. Did someone buy this company? Whatever it is they're running it into the ground at this rate.

Other Thoughts: I've removed this and went to Drive Image XML. It's free and much better. Really sad. I use to swear by this product.

2 out of 5 eggsAlmost worked as advertised...

Pros: Easy to use, full featured.

Cons: I bought Acronis TIH for the sole purpose of imaging an SSD to resore to a larger one, in order to avoid reinstalling Windows, etc. This is an advertised feature of Acronis and it performed the operation quickly and, it said, successfully. However, I immediately began having problems - the new SSD would boot into check disk aprox. 1 out of 5 attempts. The scan always reported no errors. After about 1 month the disk would not boot at all. Windows Repair reported that it could not recover the drive. Booting from another drive and scanning the SSD would show no errors or problems with the filesystem. So, I installed Windows to the SSD manually and reinstalled all my software. The drive now functions flawlessly, with no issues at startup even after many 10s of boot cycles.

Other Thoughts: Imaging a drive to a dissimilar one seems like something of a voodoo feature and I am not overly surprised that it did not work. However, this is an advertised feature of Acronis and it is disappointing that the software did not function as advertised. Naturally, I now wish I had saved myself the money and manually installed everything to the new drive in the first place.

2 out of 5 eggsAcronis is going down

Pros: Granted it is still cool that you can take an image of the hard drive and restore (if you can get through their poor interface and other technical limitations) hence the 2 stars.

Cons: In older versions when you took a backup you could see the physical hard drives and the corresponding partitions. It no longer appears to show the actual hard drives so you cannot see what hard drive the partitions belong to.

I am mainly annoyed right now because I just spent a few hours building an a fresh install and installing stuff. I took a image of the entire hard drive. However, the hard drive uses the GUID instead of the MBR. (Many hard drives over 1 or 2 TB will use GUID) When I tried to restore it corrupted my hard drive. It turns out they can offer support for GUID if you get the "Plus Pack" from the website.

A few questions:

1) Why didn't the program tell me this limitation when I was taking the image?

2) Do they really not have any logic in the restore to code take into account the inability to restore GUID drive? I can accept the fact that it says "Unable to restore because you do not have the Plus Pack" but to corrupt my hard drive and then lock? Really?

Other Thoughts: I've bought the last previous 4 versions of Acronis and have liked them all. This latest version is a real dog. In an attempt to make the interface easier for beginners they have reworked the entire interface. It feels dumbed down and it takes much longer to do things.

I haven't used Norton Ghost in a few years but after this rocky experience with Acronis I think I might switch back to Ghost.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: This excellent software provides a complete system backup and recovery of your entire system with step-by-step instructions. I highly recommend this software, hence, having a safe backup and recovery system is important to me and I'm sure it true for all computer owners. Newegg delivered in less than 36 hours.

Cons: On this subject I would not subtract an egg for this note that should be of interest to all. Be advise "Due diligence" is required when using this software as with any software or one may have a bad experience.

Other Thoughts: I completely cloned my Alienware gaming laptop mechanical hard drive to a 180GB solid state drive using a docking station with this software. Then I switched drives and my gamer booted up perfectly and faster. I am completely satisfied with this software.

1 out of 5 eggsUntitled

Pros: ????

Cons: Needs further development.

Other Thoughts: TI 10 was OK. True Image 2011 is hopeless. Impossible to use in a Windows 7 environment.
