1 out of 5 eggsdo not buy

Pros: it works sometimes

Cons: for some reason this software installs an additional driver for usb drives - vsflt??.sys and makes changes to the registry under HKLM\system\controlset###\services (there may be other entries too). the usual windows 7 drivers for usb drives are only partmgr.sys and disk.sys. if the Acronis file becomes corrupt and you are unable to reinstall the same version, every time you plug in an usb drive, windows will search for this driver and then display driver installation failed. your usb drives won't work. uninstalling Acronis does no good. these registry entries remain as does the file. Installing a later version of acronis doesn't solve the problem becuase the registry isn't updated to reflect the correct version of the file. contacting Acronis support does no good. don't try manually deleting the file and registry entries. your rig may not boot and if it does the entries are replaced but not the file.
assuming you have no other problems with this driver, such as software conflicts, it does a decent job of doing backups but occasionally it will fail for no apparent reason.
have not yet tried to restore from backup.

Other Thoughts: win 7 pro comes with backup and imaging software that works.

1 out of 5 eggsIf you have a 32 bit tablet BEWARE

Pros: Didn't cause the problems that others have seen after installing the product.

Cons: I primarily bought this product to be able to create a bootable clone of he SSD in my tablet (Asus T100TA...great tablet by the way). While you can create a bootable clone of your disk, you can't use it . Why you ask? The product uses and I quote from the technical article (see link below) "The reason for the limitation is that Acronis UEFI loader is an x86_64 UEFI application and requires 64-bit UEFI environment to run in". So if you have a tablet with a 32 bit CPU, you are out of luck because you can't boot from the bootable clone disk. The idea that someone in the Acronis food chain doesn't track what types of CPUs tablet makers are using is amazing to me.

Link to technical article

Other Thoughts: As others have stated, I have been a fan or Acronis for years and have used a bootable clone of a disk to restore the system after an update caused bad things to happen. IMHO someone at that company should be allowed to be successful elsewhere. I definitely won't try to do any backups after reading some of the horror stories here.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it is supposed to

Pros: I bought this program to make backups and images of my drives and specific folders. I found it easy to install, simple to set up, and the automatic process makes it mindless to perform these tasks.

Cons: Limited instructions, but if have the tech skills to make an image of a drive, and in an emergency, boot from the Acronis DVD, mount the image, and properly re-install the image, then you are sufficiently skilled to figure out the nuances of the program.

Other Thoughts: I bought this product on sale for $20 and I couldn't be happier. I am using it on a machine with Windows 8.1, 1 internal drive, and 6 external drives. 3 of the external drives are each 2 TB and are recognized as a single drive by the machine using the Storage Space feature. This creates a 5.45 TB drive with parity and True Image 2014 copies folders from this drive without any issues.

1 out of 5 eggsNEVER install this on your system

Pros: An interesting story on how to ruin a company.

Cons: This once wonderful company gets worse and worse as the years go by. They couldn't care less about their customers and their code must have been written by a room full of insane space monkeys. As others have mentioned, this will DISTROY your Windows installation by overwriting incredibly important Windows disk drivers.. and then refusing to remove them. Their tech support doesn't seem to exist and their user forums are overrun by, well, jerks. They'll lambast you for asking a question that they think is dumb (there ARE no dumb questions) and get downright offensive if you actually point out a problem with the product.. and the moderators don't care. They let people run free personally insulting other users but if you try to post constructive criticism about their product, they'll ban you for being "disparaging". Seriously.. it's so bad that it's almost enough to make you wish the cold war had never ended (Russian company.. I hope they don't reflect Russian ethics.. because they have NONE). It you see a positive review for Acronis, it is likely their staff posting it. Stalin must be proud..

Other Thoughts: Was a huge fan of Acronis software for years. I don't know what happened to them but literally overnight they started releasing machine-destroying bug-filled code while simultaneously (basically) shutting down their tech support. I don't know if they got sold, it the CEO had a stroke or if their success went to their heads and dropped their collective IQ to about a 5.. All I can say for sure is that they have made their products and themselves unusable. I use to root for them.. until they brought full-blown censorship into their forums (along with letting their "dogs" out to drive people off), blocking the final vestige of hope of ever getting help with this software. Now I just wish they would go away (and hope that all Russians are not as rude as these people).

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well for me...

Pros: Works reliably in the background, making daily incremental backups across my home network.

Cons: Need a separate license (copy) for each machine, unlike in the earlier days of True Image.

Other Thoughts: When I read this terrible reviews, I really can't understand why people have so much difficulty with True Image. I've used it or years, upgrading regularly, and now use 3 copies of TI2014. I don't try anything exotic - backing up 3 PC's over my home network, scheduled daily, including automatic validation. Never tried the "Secure Zone", "Try & Decide", or cloud features, just image backup and restore, image mounting, and file browsing. I have rarely had a problem caused by True Image. In those rare cases, if an image fails to restore, I have several daily and weekly previous backups to fall back on.

4 out of 5 eggsTrue Image 2014

Pros: I have 8 versions over the years of Acronis I have a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. system.
I loaded TI 2014 upgrade and I only use it to clone (duplicate) a 1tb disk. It didn't work ..while this area is for the Pros of the product.....the pro part is that tech support was able to help me clone the disk but it took a while emailing back and forth and they stuck with me.
I like another person I had to send a report and pictures of the error code and they responded that they noticed a problem on my source disk and had me do a check disk which I did and they told me to download the TI 2014 bootable media and let it boot from the cd. It worked. I've done this twice now without a problem.

Cons: Yes it would have been great if it worked as soon as I installed it without having to emailing tech support which took a while to get it right.

5 out of 5 eggsNot comfortable without my daily incremental !

Pros: I've lost count of how many times this program has saved my computers.

Cons: Support is a little flaky, and the annual upgrades are becoming less important.

Other Thoughts: Buy it, learn it, back up your stuff every day !

4 out of 5 eggsTrue Image 2014

Pros: Great if you use it to create a restore image for your hard drive as it will also restore to different hardware. I got it on sale - less than 20 bucks.

Cons: Very heavy on the system resources and takes a long time to do a backup - it took almost 2 hours to backup 18 Gigs of data.

Other Thoughts: I was using Genie_T_L and it was ok, but it also was heavy on the system resources and the most you could schedule to do a backup was every 3 hours - I would have liked to be able to set it to backup once a week. I also purchased Ease__ and although it too is heavy on system resources, it took less than hour to do the same 18 Gigs of data and I can set it to do a backup once a week. So, if you are not sure either to purchase True Image or another backup SW, it appears they all are heavy on resources - the only difference is the time it takes to do a backup.

1 out of 5 eggsInstaller and Licensing can make a complete mess for your 64Bit OS

Pros: Acronis products (15 of which I have registered) up until now have been consistently reliable.

Cons: Installing True Image 2014 will prevent machines from logging in and will cause the system to restart immediately after logging in to an account, akin to a power on reset inside the OS, no warning just straight to the BIOS startup logo and no crashdump can be performed.

After crashing it is impossible to run the uninstaller because rebooting the system in anything other than barebones safe mode so that the OS allows you to login and the uninstaller fails. Making the software impossible to remove and impossible to reinstall.

It would appear that over aggressive license protection and changes to the filter drivers etc have made the installer both unreliable and dangerous.

My advice : It is not worth the risk and another example of a company seeking to protect revenues hurting those willing to pay for the product.
