1 out of 5 eggswaste of money

Pros: you can do manual backups

Cons: the automated backup system doesn't work. after doing the initial backup manually, i set the software to do automated backups. however, never once has this succeeded. I don't get any error messages or other notifications that the backup has failed. as a matter of fact as far as I can tell, they never even started. I tested both the 160GB drive to be backed up and the 500GB USB backup drive (the USB drive has over 450GB of free space). no errors found. even tried to do backups after reformatting the usb drive - no joy. i'm trying to backup my Vista laptop - only 50GB is used. I checked the advanced options for Acronis as compared to the instructions and all my settings appear to be correct. So there is no reason the backups shouldn't work except for badly written code.

Other Thoughts: i'm lucky, i bought this on sale. i have win 7 pro on a second computer and that does automated backups flawlessly. i know because the computer's original HDD failed and I was able to restore to a new drive from the win 7 backup

It's a crime that Microsoft can write a better routine than a company who writes dedicated software

3 out of 5 eggsNice and Simple...but

Pros: I've been using Genie9 for a while to backup files on my computer, but I found the interface to be somewhat annoying so I thougt I would give this a shot. It's pretty simple and efficient, the interface is straightforward and not a lot of bills and whistles or fancy graphics to distract from what you need to do. It has a straightforward layout and the menus make most things easy to find. Functionally it works well, you can set what type of backup you want to do, and what the timeframe. you can also create a system image so that if something catastrophic happens you can restore your entire computer for backup (thanks the heavens for BLU-RAYs). I was doing this for Genie9 whenever I built a new computer for a client, but I didn't like the restore process and Genie 9 completely. Acronis takes a simpler approach, and has worked to my satisfaction so far. So why three stars, because Acronis has one potentially infuriating flaw...licensing.

Cons: Yep...licensing, some of the products that have multi-PC licenses has shown to have one. it's hit or miss, but unfortunately it was a hit for client of mine. what compounded this was a Acronis doesn't have good customer service, so I called to find out what the problem was I got nowhere. near asking you to provide information in the serial and acting like I owed them something, the supervisor was no better so I just hung up. absent the licensing issue, this is a pretty good program but I have to say buyer beware because it can be infuriating pain when you don't get what you pay for.

1 out of 5 eggsWas a good idea..

Pros: It works fairly well, if you can get it to work. I got six fairly good years out of Acronis software, DD and TI, but it's over now.

Cons: This is actually for the 2013 version, but company policy transcends versions. I am able to use only one version of the three I purchased. Acronis only knows if a license has been used once, and you can forget about reloading it, even on the same machine, after a catastrophic crash where the entire disk is lost. Getting through to support is impossible, and completely worthless if you do manage to get in touch. Obstructionist policy at evey turn.

Other Thoughts: It's really a shame. I first bought an Acronis product, Disk Director, six years ago, and it saved me from a major disaster. Happy, I later tried True Image 2009, and was equally impressed. Not perfect, but much better, and more capable, than anything else I'd seen. Bought 2012 later, which worked well. 2013 worked well, but screwing me on the license did it. I'm not paying a hundred bucks to protect a single machine, and be put through hours of aggravation trying to get what I paid for. Seems to happen to all companies - they have a good product, do well, get arrogant and lazy (and greedy), turn over the business to an accountant type that screws the business, while showing deceptive numbers to the lazy ones in charge, that don't bother to check on the customer base.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Love the Nonstop Backup feature. Product was fairly intuitive in the installation. It seems I always have some kind of a problem during installation of software but none this time. I upgraded to the Premium version with no problems.

Cons: None, so far

5 out of 5 eggsAcronis True Image 2014 Family Pack

Pros: Since I have more than one computer I needed the version to install on 3 computers. I installed it on all 3 and it works fine. I backed up all 3 computers to tib backup. Also a big plus was that Newegg had it on sale for $39.00.

Cons: So far I have not had any cons.
