1 out of 5 eggsAwful product

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Tried to back up Win 10 installation. Seemed to freeze up shortly after starting. Worthless product. Very expensive now with 1 device limitation. Have used older versions for years.

Other Thoughts: For me, this product represents the end of my use of Acronis products. I now use EaseUS products Todo Backup and Partition Master. They are free for home, personal use and work fine.

1 out of 5 eggsThere are alternatives to this!

Pros: If you are a filthy rich elitist then consider purchasing Acronis

Cons: I've been a faithful Acronis disciple since 2009 however there comes a time when I had to seek alternative methods to backups and especially cloning. Out family purchased Acronis 2009 at the time of it's release simply because there were not too many easy to use, cost effective but more importantly reliable methods to clone and accomplish backups. Acronis served our family well having been able to be installed on WinXP, Vista, Win7 but NOT Windows 10 Pro 64-bit upgrade. What was shocking was the fact you could now only install the newer releases of Acronis on 1 pc...3 pc's meant purchasing 3 copies of Acronis. This was not going to happen especially since our household only had a need once possibly twice per year if our pc's got infected. This one greedy selling point now pushed by Acronis pushed me finally to investigating freeware...AOMEI's backupper and Clonezilla now is our favorite backup/cloning utility....no costs whatsoever, easy to use even without reading the recommended documentation but more importantly FREE. Acronis!...do away with the 1-seat license, horrible activation schema and you might possibly get me back as a customer. I won't even talk about your terrible support...paying for asking a simple support question? ...seriously?...Shame on you Acronis

Other Thoughts: AOMEI BackUpper rocks!

3 out of 5 eggsNote Upload Time

Pros: Very Good Sale Price

Cons: Slow, slow, slow upload times. If I paid full or close to full price, I would be very unhappy. Definitely will not renew as again the upload time is way way way to long.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst UI ever.

Pros: It was on sale?!?

Cons: This has the worst UI I have ever used. Vague instructions, no error descriptions. You'd think that since this is the only thing they do, that it'd work well. I ended up using the free version, available from a HD MFG, that had a better front end.

Other Thoughts: Use the free versions provided by all the HD manufacturers.

3 out of 5 eggsRestore Issues

Pros: Cost, utility

Cons: Restore issues

Other Thoughts: Let me first say that 2013 is the last version I have. I stopped upgrading this product because of issues I had with restores. The post that says to simply put in the OS disk after restore works only if you have one. Most PCs shipped recently don't provide one. You have to do a factory reset destroying everything you have done, This is something to think about.

4 out of 5 eggsAcronis To The Rescue

Pros: Acronis has a great set of tools to image, clone, or restore boot drives.
Seagate and Western Digital both offer free versions of Acronis with limited features.
That is an excellent endorsement of Acronis True Image.

Cons: Restoring an image or even making a backup will infrequently cause the system to not boot. That happens with all the imaging products I have tried.

Other Thoughts: I have used Acronis since version 11, pre 2009 name, after Norton gave up the Ghost....
Acronis is very reliable, but not perfect. It is essential that you have the os installer disk or make the repair disk to solve unexpected boot issues. Since Windows 8, UEFI, and GPT have become the norm for new systems, all the system imaging programs have been challenged to keep up with all the variables associated with Microsoft's Secure Boot technology. This has made it hard for the OEMs to keep up with the changes to the motherboard, MBR, and Bios. I have had unexpected boot failures while resizing Windows partitions using Windows built in tools.
If you are imaging PCs made for Windows 8 or newer you should be prepared with alternative live CD or USB boot devices and/or the repair disk or installer disk for your OS.

4 out of 5 eggsAcronis booting problems

Pros: Excellent tool for creating image backups

Cons: Not always as easy to restore as you might like

Other Thoughts: This is primarily a response to the one star review from a user who claims they are unable to boot their machine after recovery. I have used Acronis frequently over several years and I agree that this is sometimes an issue. I am aware of certain conditions that create the problem but almost always the fix is quite easy. Simply put in a copy of the OS disk (eg Windows 7 disk) after recovery. Boot from the CD and do a disk repair. You will have to do the disk repair twice but after the second time your image will most likely boot. It is a bit tedious and rather annoying but has worked for me well over 90% of the time when I run into problems.

1 out of 5 eggsNever Again

Pros: Easy to setup and install.

Cons: Acronis has failed me twice when the hard drive on my development computer crashed. It finds the backed up partitions and files, restores them but the hard drive will not boot. I have bought multiple upgrades over the years thinking that would give me the ability to get back up and working should I have a hard drive crash.

I used the Acronis Rescue DVD, followed instructions, still did not boot. I used the Universal Restore DVD, followed instructions, still did not boot. I tried to get the clone I created of the boot drive to boot, no luck. I have given up after being down 2 days trying to get this stuff to work and have started just reinstalling Windows.

Before you buy this look at the Acronis forum pages and read the posts that tell you what you have to do to get your computer booting again. Their own forum should be enough to scare you off. Particularly since they can remove any negative posts from there.

From now on I will back up data with scripts and just keep my software handy to reinstall everything since that is what I have had to do twice anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Backup Software

Pros: I own a MacBook Pro running Yosemite and Parallels s/w running Windows 8.1 Pro in virtual machine mode. The Acronis True Image 2015 Unlimited performs flawless backups of both operating system environments to my external HD connected to my MacBook via USB 3.0.

Cons: None, although I haven't tried a restore of a backup yet so I can't yet say how that goes...

Other Thoughts: Great software, although like I said above in the Cons restoring a backup still has yet to be tried...
