3 out of 5 eggsTrue Image Disappointment

Pros: Easy Installation of the main program
Fast Backup and Restore Operations
Fast Tech Support from Acronis

Cons: Rescue Media was a disappointment. I deducted two stars because the Rescue Media (Build 6520) would not read my USB3 Seagate Backup + external hard disk.

On one of the Acronis forums was a long thread about this particular build and USB 3 compatibility. The recommendation from the forum was to build a WinPE based Rescue Disk and use it instead of the Linux based one that is normally created from within the Acronis application. Doing so requires the installation of the Microsoft AIK which is a large download and may be difficult for beginners.

I successfully created the WinPE version on my 64 bit Windows 8 machine, but it would not run on my 32 bit laptop, so I opened a ticket with Acronis Support.

The next day I received a reply from Support along with a link for an updated build to update the installation with. The technician recommended installing the update, and if that didn't work, build the WinPE version.

After updating to version 6574 and building a new Rescue disk, my Seagate drive was recognized and I was able to successfully backup and restore my laptop.

There is an option to shutdown the PC after the Backup or Restore operations, but it doesn't work on builds 6520 and 6574. The OS hangs and the machine does not power off. I can live with that, but mature software such as Acronis True Image shouldn't introduce new bugs. The whole experience has been frustratingly complex since I was used to everything "just working" on version 11.

Other Thoughts: My laptop is an older Dell Latitude D620 with USB2 ports.
My desktop PC is an Asus/AMD machine with USB2 and 3, running Win8.1 x64.

The prompt, accurate,Tech Support restored my confidence in True Image, but I would advise waiting until Windows 10 is released to upgrade as members of the Acronis Forum repeatedly stated they were told there would be an updated version released after the Windows 10 release.

Technical Experience: 20 years experience supporting Windows products since Windows 95.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this version

Pros: I cannot find anything good to say about ATI 2015

Cons: The new interface is not user friendly and the options have been made difficult to find and use. Useful options from previous versions have been deleted.

Other Thoughts: I have been using ATI since 2007 and purchased every version released since then. Up to this time it has been the most useful application software on my systems. I have been forced to uninstall ATI 2015 and return to the previous version. Technical support is virtually unavailable because the user must pay for correcting the vendor's errors. Unless you have a Masochistic personality then avoid this version.

2 out of 5 eggsIt works great until it doesn't

Pros: If it worked, True Image is by far the most full-featured offline backup program available. I tried a lot of them, and TI was by far the most flexible in terms of backup and versioning options.

Cons: TL;DR: It's buggy, and I'm not even sure they're committed to fixing it.

I should have known that things were not going to go well with this version when messed up the imports of my TI 2013 backups. But I figured I'd only need to do this once, so I started over and things worked well for a while.

Fast forward one month: I see a notification that a file couldn't be backed up, click here to make a decision. Click on the notification, nothing happens. The backup hangs and I need to restart my computer to even stop it.

Reboot and rerun the backup manually: Now I at least get the notification about while file is causing issues. Tell TI to ignore it and go on with my day. An hour later the backup is still hung. Have to reboot to do anything with TI.

Call support: Response is prompt. I let the support agent take control of my computer and he spends about 15 minutes mashing on various things trying to unstick my backup. It doesn't work and we reboot like I've done before. He now goes, excludes the file from the backup, and runs it again. It works, and he proclaims the software bug free.

It's the file that's not supported, he claims. The file that causes TI to cascade into a death spiral that requires a reboot to fix. I protest, and he claims that he'll forward this issue to the developers, but I've received no requests for any debug logs or further information that would actually allow them to fix this, so I'm not sure they care. Maybe they do, but they're just busy fixing all the other bugs you can find reported about TI 2015 on the net.

Other Thoughts: A lot of people are complaining about how they removed features in TI 2015. I'm not one of them. They need to focus on making a product that does what it's supposed to do well, not a product that does many things poorly.

1 out of 5 eggsLong history of poor performance

Pros: I had this product several years ago and it worked great!

Cons: the past 2 versions would back up for a few weeks then simply refuse to work. Only way to fix it was to reinstall the product and go thru their cumbersome license mess. Since it was I think 3 months after registering the product, Acronis wanted more money to figure out why it didn't work.

Other Thoughts: Lots of comments about problems with Acronis, and it use to be the best of the best. Very disappointing.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not work on my asus laptop

Pros: None

Cons: Loaded it on my laptop it would start backing up then stop working before it completed, Had an older copy of True image on my desktop. for some reason it got wiped out when I tried to run the new version on my laptop. Now I have no back up software.
It came with Disk director12 . Tried it one time on my laptop it just keep spinning. had to kill the process. Not very impressed.

Other Thoughts: I have been using True Image for over 3 years. Liked it a lot and it save me on more the one occasion. I will go back to an older version.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Works. Easy to use and setup.

Cons: Just a paper with serial numbers on it. No disc. Gave directions where to download though.

Other Thoughts: My trusty Macrium Reflect Pro would not take my new image of a 500gb drive and put it on a new 120gb ssd drive. Would not shrink it properly. Searched and found info on how to proceed but that didn't work either. Why should I have to jump through hoops? Shrink the existing hdd this and that, pfft.

After ordering the Image 3 pack I read some not so good reviews and felt I wasted my money. When it arrived I installed, made a image off my existing hdd, made a boot cd, removed hdd and installed ssd, booted with the cd, clicked several easy to understand buttons, restored in 12 minutes. Rebooted into my new ssd, works perfectly. No hoops, no screaming, no pondering on how to eliminate the Earth, smooth. Very easy to use!

2 out of 5 eggsNot for Vista

Pros: Easy to install and setup. Tech support was responsive (chat and e-mail) but took almost a month to figure out that Vista is a not supported OS.

Cons: I made the mistake of expecting that the app would work with Vista. Not all features do. After working with Acronis support for a month they finally informed me that "Acronis True Image 2015 is not tested on windows Vista OS" and "that Acronis True Image 2015 may work or may not" although the retail box includes Vista as a Supported Windows OS. Also that "Correct work on other Windows operating systems is possible, but not guaranteed." I should have checked this product out better. My bad. You, however, are for warned.

5 out of 5 eggsAcronis True Image 2015

Pros: It works!! i bought this software to use at work. We have many computers in service and sometimes we have to image to dissimilar hardware. ATI 2015 with the downloaded universal restore worked like a charm!

Cons: Don't forget to activate and register the software on the Acronis website. I didn't register and when i first used universal restore, the disk came up as being a trial version. Not really a con but i had to mention it.

Other Thoughts: Because i had the disk come up as a trial version i had to contact Acronis support. i dreaded it because i knew we would not come to a resolution. Well, i was wrong. i used chat on their website and the person was very helpful She told me what i had to do and it fixed the problem. i then had a follow up email from her later to check if her solution worked. i then had a follow up call from Acronis! I am very impressed with the level of support that Acronis has provided. Thank you Acronis, you've saved me many hours of aggravation.
