Other Thoughts: I left a review about the product, but I felt the vendor needed some praise with it's handling of my issues. After several emails to Honestech support, we came to the conclusion this will not work on my system. Due to compatibility issues with AMD systems. Even though I purchased this thru newegg, Honestech gave me an RMA and is having me send it directly to them for a ful refund. WOW. THANKS HONESTECH! Now I just with your $#@% worked with AMD....

Also, they said there should be a product that will work with AMD systems in the next 2-3 months. Hopefully.

Disabled my AV software, reinstalled, rebooted, installed VidBox "patch" from honestech, reinstalled, rebooted, used different VCR, camcorder, different USB and RCA cables, nothing worked. This is not compatible with my configuration. And I can't get my $60 back. Wonderful.

Pros: Great Shell Shocker price, arrived quickly, everything works. Does a good job of VHS directly to DVD.

Comes with separate software to copy DVD's and software to burn video folders to DVD. Also audio software to copy the old vinyl or 8-Track/cassettes you have lying around!

This software doesn't compare to my VideoStudio Pro, yet it does a decent job and reminds me a lot of Windows Movie Maker.

Make sure your PC can handle the workload, although I was surprised it doesn't seem to require much memory or CPU. I was looking for settings to get it to use more.

Cons: None, just don't expect old VHS tapes to suddenly develop Blu-Ray quality.

Other Thoughts: A few things I learned while playing with this product:

Make sure you have it plugged into a USB port that is not being shared by anything, even if whatever is shared is not being used. This eliminated the jerky frames for me. When in doubt, unplug all unneeded USB devices as it is hard to tell "what is linked to what" via the motherboard.

Look to see if the tape you want to transfer has a time code on it, most do. If it says running time of 48 minutes then set the software to record for 50. If you don't know the time then max it out and record under advanced mode. You can always trim off the excess, then burn.

A 50 minute VHS video takes up about 3GB of space, so if you want to fit several videos onto a single DVD you will need to record them to disk using advanced mode, edit/trim if you wish, then burn them with menus to a dual-layer DVD.

If you use the advanced mode, instead of burning to DVD you can burn to your hard drive after you've rendered them to the format of your choice.

Using Windows Vista Home Premium x64 with 8GB of DDR3-1333 and a Phenom II X3 740BE. No issues so far.

Pros: Nice Box

Cons: I purchased this product and it was DOA. I contacted the company support department and they told me to send it back to them for repair! Not only did the product fail out of the box the support department took several weeks to come to the conclusion that I should pay to send it back for thier repair department. Why they couldn't remote to my machine to validate the configuration? Why didn't they send me a refund? Why didn't they just send me a working unit as soon as they realized the product was DOA? Because thier support department was not interested in keeping me as a customer.

Other Thoughts: They didn't listen to the customer

Pros: Software is easy for straight VHS to DVD without editting. This is all we used it for. Picture appeared clean and sharp.

Cons: Needs mono to stereo RCA audio splitter, no provision for sending audio to both channels on the record side. Colors (red, green and orange) seemed a little faded, ended up using the ION video 2 pc device and software.

Other Thoughts: 2 hour video is about 8.4gig at good quality. 40min is about 2.7gig file. That is if you save it to the drive then burn it to DVD.

Pros: Totally Cool! Get this if you want to preserve your old music and videos! It is so easy to use - Alot is not intuitive but once youspend a little time 'poking' around in the program you can figure things out pretty quick. Electronic pdf manual is pretty helpful!

Cons: You can not 'snip' audio files - only video files.

Pros: Install was easy

Cons: If I could it would be minus eggs. Conplete wast of time. Editing and correction is not possible. I saved my work before a merge but it doubled the story line and refused to let me make changes and then added 6 min to the end of what it did save. Do yourself a favor and get a different solution because this is a not worth the trouble you will have. Also stopped responding 3 times had to use task manager to kill it.

Pros: The only pro I have for this software is that Honestech, stands behind their product. The recordings that I tried all froze the video after about 20 minutes of recording. I tried two different VCRs and it did it with both. I contacted Honestech and they gave me a couple of ideas to fix the problem but none of them worked. They eventually gave me a refund of the purchase price so 5 eggs to Honestech.

Cons: Video recording would freeze after a short time and everything I tried to get it to work failed. This would have been a great product if it had worked but Honestech treated great so I would consider purchasing Honestech products in the future. Contact Honestech support, they are very good at responding to any problem

Pros: It was very easy to install and use. Initially, I had was disappointed. [See "Cons".]

Cons: The audio and video are out of sync when importing, which was frustrating the first time I used it to import a VHS tape. Learning this is an undocumented feature; it turned into a non-problem.

Other Thoughts: I've only used it to import video and it works very well for that function. I use Corel VideoStudio Pro to edit video, because I've been using it for many years and know how it works.
