Taking place just after the events in the movie Aliens 3, Sega's Aliens: Colonial Marines puts you in the combat boots of a United States Colonial Marine in this co-operative squad-based tactical shooter. Explore the abandoned USMS Sulaco and the planet LV-426 with its wrecked alien spacecraft as seen in the first two movies. Go beyond the movies as your mission takes you to futuristic cities on other planets.

With a plot written by Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: DS9 writers David Weddle and Bradley Thompson, and using the Unreal Engine, players find themselves immersed in claustrophobic environs as part of a four-man Marine squad with sudden death lurking nearby. Play solo in command of your squad – with the ability to shift from Marine to Marine - or take on the aliens with three other friends with drop-in/drop-out cooperative play.

Each Marine has unique weapons, skills and duties as well as specific mission objectives. The familiar M4A1 pulse rifle and M240 flamethrower will be close at hand as will other favorites and some new equipment as well. The aliens have different classes as well and will respond differently to situations and threats – they won't just throw themselves into the path of your M56 Smart gun. The hunters will be the hunted.

4 out of 5 eggsNot so bad after the patches

Pros: Good atmosphere and design, the artists did their homework on James Cameron's ALIENS, music is decent. Price was only $4 - and that's worth it for a big aliens fan like me.

Cons: Your AI companions will be annoying but not any more than Skyrim companions. The aliens are pretty dumb for the most part. In some places, your goals are uncertain or not clearly marked. Alien spawns are scripted but the AvP games have been than way since AvP2.

Other Thoughts: I spent 9 hours playing this game, I might spend another 9. The multiplayer community has died completely so you'll only be playing the campaign.

For $4, I was pleased. (It also helped that I had very low expectations.) Otherwise, I might give it only 3 eggs just because it feels like a 2009 game released a few years late.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's ok...

Pros: It's an Aliens first person shooter!

The price I paid for it was discounted.

Cons: I haven't finished the game yet because I haven't felt the need to. Not sure if I will finish the game because there are so many other games out there that are better.

The graphics are dated.

When using the XBOX 360 controller on the PC there are certain button cues that pop up on screen prompting you to press a keyboard button. Needless to say that those are the times I dye, trying to figure out what button is that on the 360, or trying to select the button on the keyboard in time.

Other Thoughts: When I first saw the trailer before the game came out I was really really excited for the game, but then I saw that it was Gearbox software, the same company that did Duke Nukem. Well I was very disappointed in Duke Nukem, and now I'm disappointed in Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Dont get me wrong, Gearbox did a great job on the half life games, brothers in arms, halo for the PC, and lets not forget probably their most popular the Borderlands series.

I never feel rushed, and I don't feel anything for the characters in the campaign that you are suppose to be fighting alongside.

3 out of 5 eggsnot as bad as review scores say

Pros: The game isn't as bad as most people say it is. Perhaps it is on the console version bad the pc. edition benefited from some pretty hefty updates and patches. As its stands its worth it at an under $20 price point. It will never be what is was meant to be but serious fan will find just enough to like.

Cons: The graphics and game play feel several years out of date. Enemy A.I. has been improved but is still not on par with the level of quality that is expected in modern AAA games. Same goes for graphics.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: Cheap, and activates on steam

I only played it after all the patches, and have to say... yes it still has bugs, and yes it still is annoying at points... but overall i'm actually enjoying the game.

Cons: Some bugs still, friendly AI isn't friendly at all.

(They don't help much)

Other Thoughts: Unreal Engine 3 game, runs well on older hardware.

3 out of 5 eggsNot good, but not as bad as people say.

Pros: Good atmosphere.
Moderately fun co-op.

Cons: Sloppy AI.
Some silly alien types.
Too many human enemies.

Other Thoughts: Aliens: Colonial Marines is not what I'd call a good game, but it's not the Daikatana-style complete failure many make it out to be. It's solidly mediocre, and reasonably fun to play co-op on the hardest difficulty with the brightness turned down.

My biggest complaint with the game is probably the amount of time you spend fighting Weyland-Yutani PMCs instead of xenomorphs. When a player says "Oh good, aliens." in an Aliens game, your balance is probably off somewhere.

I felt most of the new alien species created for the game didn't fit the universe well, and seemed to have been shoehorned in simply for multiplayer or to make a particular level work.

I was also a bit irritated by some of the character design. The long haired pilot, and female marine with hair buns and giant hoop earrings wouldn't have passed inspection in James Cameron's USCM. It was pretty immersion breaking for me, and I feel it conveys a lack of confidence on on the part of the designers. It seems like they doubted their ability to create female characters that gamers will care about without making them fit the standard mold of femininity. I may be biased, though, Vasquez is one of my favorite movie characters of all time.

Also on the subject of character design, there's a lot of '90s-'00s style tribal tattos and such which just doesn't belong. They should have taken influences from the Vietnam era as well as the '80s instead.

Despite all that, however, if you can get it cheap it's a fun romp through the Aliens universe, and worth a few bucks.

1 out of 5 eggsRequirements?

Pros: Might be fun?

Cons: System requirements are not shown, but it looks like it needs Steam to run.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Demo but good

Pros: To fully appreciate the PC game it must be purchased for under $30.

Since May 5th the graphics and AI have been fixed for the PC, but there are still a few bugs that "should" be fixed June 11th.

If graphics are important to you Watch a youtube video done after May in HD, and only recorded from the PC as PS3 and Xbox360 have not had graphics patches, just AI and bug fixes. I think the graphics are close to AVP3 which I like, don't confuse this game with DeadSpace or the new COD. It is not that, nor is it Borderlands 2. It's an Aliens game, please watch the movie if you haven't.

Co op is where this game shines but reading "Aliens the missing manual" in Steam guides is really important when looking for players.

Team Deathmatch is fun once you get down the Alien Movement. Survivor, Extermination, Escape are good strategy games but players can only be found by scheduling events from their group link.

Bug Hunt is a blast, because it can be played in offline mode and you get a swarm effect. New DLC Recon is fun too but you have to schedule events. A:CM Reconnaissance ACM-RECON

Cons: Difficulty is still odd, with soldier and hardened being almost the same.

The single player story is not that impressive, and has a "need to know" vibe that goes with the rank of the character. Your a grunt and no one tells you anything. Not bad but not Sci Fi where things are explained.

Matchmaker is broken and needs fixed, joining by friend invites, groups, or searching each server seems like the only way to find people.

There is still the Lurker pounce bug, where when you jump on someone you just sit on them. Hoping to get that fixed when new DLC comes out on the 11th.

Aliens in 3rd Person are hard to navigate for many, and transition of surfaces are not as fluid as AVP.

People are constantly saying they can't find a game in the threads instead of looking at my guide. :C

Other Thoughts: Console version I wouldn't buy unless it was under 20.

1 out of 5 eggsNot what they promised

Pros: None

Cons: This is not the game they showed at E3. The demo you watched so many times hoping to see aliens and creepy environments...NOT THERE. Poor story line, poor graphics(not even close to what was demo'd) Just a rip off.

Other Thoughts: This game is not worth the $$$. maybe 9.99 or free with purchase but you will hate this game. You only play against aliens in 3 sections of the many levels. WHAT?!?!?!?!?!? you fight the corporation for the rest of the game. Folks the game is called "ALIENS: Colonial Marines" A L I E N S!!!! What the heck!!!! The AI is criminal as to be mentally challenged....just ridiculous. If you saw the original game demo and was hoping for this will be wondering what happen to the demo parts.
