Learn more about Empire: Total War

Empire: Total War
ESRB Rating
T - Teen

Control the sea, command great armies, forge a new nation and conquer the globe. Empire: Total War takes the Total War franchise to the 18th Century and the Age of Imperialism—a time of near perpetual war.

This latest installation in the award-winning, multi-million unit selling Total War franchise introduces a host of revolutionary new features, including true 3D naval combat.

Players will be able to command single ships or vast fleets upon seascapes rich with extraordinary effects.

After pummeling enemies with cannon fire, players will close in to grapple enemy ships and prepare to board, taking control of men as they fight hand-to-hand.

With an entirely new game engine, Empire will see further enhancements to the 3D battles and turn-based campaign maps.

Empire lets players experience combat on the high seas, India, Europe, and, for the first time, the United States of America.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Concept, Historical Accuracy - is so so

Pros: This game has a good concept and is no doubt, has the best intentions of the Total War franchise. (I own all games and expansions). For the most part, this game has countless hours of playability

Cons: *note*
I'm a fanboy, but I'll admit that this game is broken, but many of the complaints are from ignorant people and people who have less than adequate computers (you need a brute to make the game sparkle).

There are bugs and the game crashes, mainly due to its association with Steam. This does not bother me one bit (just ctrl+s like every 3 or 4 turns). I still highly recommend this game

Other Thoughts: This game is running on a new engine of Total War's and there always has to be a first. Unit skins and historical blunders are frustrating (I'm a re-enactor).

*They need another Shogun Total War!*

1 out of 5 eggsNot acceptable

Pros: Sounds like a very interesting game with good graphics.

Cons: - Steam. I will not buy any game that requires activation.
- Bugs. From what I've read it crashes regularly. Get real.

Other Thoughts: When will companies give up on DRM? In this case it has cost them a sale. I didn't buy this game.

2 out of 5 eggsStay away from this game

Pros: Looks like it had potential to be a good game

Cons: Previous releases of total war had the right balance of town or/city building and war aspect. This game focuses way to much on city building and learning new tech. Also, the three maps of the world are alittle confusing. I find myself babysitting my ships when they make the jump from europe to north america. Oh, you also have to keep troops next to a fur trade building or any other building for that matter as it is not protected by your city in the region. I found myself spending way to much money trying to protect stupid things like fur trader or a metalsmith.

Other Thoughts: If they would have made this game alot more like Medieval 2 , with the new spin on it, would have been alot better. I dont have 3 hours of thinking to spend on one turn. If your new to the total war series you might like it, but for a total war fan from the start , you probley wont care for it.

5 out of 5 eggsRegardless of what others say

Pros: Everything. Regardless of what other people say, this game is absolutely one of the best strategy games ever made. The graphics are ridiculous. Personally I love the naval part of the game, especially the online battles. I really can't tell you how much I love this game. It's actually stopped me from doing my homework sometimes.

Cons: On occasion, it does crash. Something to do with Steam. Not quite sure what it is. But it only happens about twice per week. And to me that is not a big deal, because when I do get to play it, it's so wonderful.

Other Thoughts: Now, I downloaded this game directly from Steam. I don't know if that's why it works so well on my laptop as opposed to other people who didn't and actually bought the disc, I don't know. But I do know that I love this game. For the people who are having problems running it on systems that have some serious hardware, you might want to try actually having the entire game on your computer as opposed to directly booting from a DVD. Don't know if that helps. Anyway it works fine on my laptop and I'm running a 3.0 Intel duel core and a Nvidia 260. And it runs great. Hope this review helps some people begin to enjoy this fantastics game.

1 out of 5 eggsIf you like 20 minutes of gaming, this is the game for you

Pros: When it plays, the game is fun and engrossing. The naval battles are challenging.

Cons: This game doesn't work for more than 20 minutes at a time. I've tried every form of gameplay I could, and it always quits. I have a i7 920 and a GTX260 with all the latest drivers for Windows and the vid card. I've tried playing the game on all different graphic levels and it still quits. The worst part of all is it doesn't quit between turns or in a convenient place, it quits immediately after a battle. This means that no matter where you load, you always have to re-play the last battle.

Other Thoughts: There's a difference between releasing patches to fix a few bugs and to finish a game. This is definitely the latter. The game has been out for a long time and they still don't have it fixed.

1 out of 5 eggsEmpire: Total Failure

Pros: None

Cons: Crashes and Bugs
Modding is very limited

Other Thoughts: CA if your going to release a piece of garbage game at least allow modders to mod more it more easily.

Would give ZERO EGGS if could.

Waste of $50. Will never BUY a CA product again.

3 out of 5 eggsSeems pretty solid.

Pros: Continuity with the rest of the seies so the learning curve is easy, the graphics have improved from MTW2, new Total War environment

Cons: I'm still caught up in Medieval 2 and haven't spent enough time to be particular at the moment.

Other Thoughts: The ability to interact with terrain is a nice feature. Units can shoot from behind low walls, fences, etc. Units can also hop over fences which is nice. I get the personal feeling that I might prefer the MTW2 game better just because I prefer the more hand to hand type fighting. In ETW the battles obviously deal in less hand to hand and more so in gun units and cannon. My thoughts are if you're still having a good time with MTW2 you may want to hold off. It really depends on your preferences. If you're really into 18th century warfare then you'll probably be very pleased. I probably just need to give it some more play time and I'll get caught up in it.

5 out of 5 eggsGame I've Been Waiting For

Pros: Creative Assembly has outdone themselves this time. I must admit though I never really played the other ones that much, I was waiting for the gunpowder age it it has arrived and in style! This game is amazing through and through. Couple glitches here and there but that's common in most games at first, patches will be released!

Cons: Steam.

Other Thoughts: Absolutley amazing. If you love RTS games, this is for you!
