MASTER THE ART OF WAR TO BECOME THE UNDISPUTED RULER OF MEDIEVAL JAPAN! In 2000, the Creative Assembly re-invented the strategy genre with Shogun: Total War, an unprecedented blend of 3D real-time battles and turn-based management game and the first offering in the multi-award winning series. With over 7 million units sold and universal acclaim from the press and community, Total War has consistently been at the cutting edge of the genre and is today one of the most successful PC franchises of all time.

In 2011, the makers of Rome and Empire: Total War will release the sequel to the game that started it all. Shogun 2: Total War will take long-time veterans and newcomers alike to the next level of strategy gaming on PC. Based on 10 years of experience in making Total War, Shogun 2 is the perfection of the series with a new Artificial Intelligence (AI), revolutionary multiplayer modes, brand new campaign map options and epic 3D real-time battles.

It is the middle of the 16th century in Medieval Japan. The country, once ruled by a unified government, is now split into many warring clans. The player takes on the role of one Daimyo – the clan leader – and will use military engagements, economics and diplomacy to achieve the ultimate goal: re-unite Japan under his supreme command and become the new Shogun – the undisputed ruler of Japan. Set during the golden age of Samurai warfare, Shogun 2 brings to life the most turbulent period of Japanese history.

  • newegg Total War redefined Shogun 2 is the ultimate refinement of the original formula with a new, cutting-edge AI, more polish and online functionality than ever before. The result is the perfect mix of real-time and turn-based strategy gaming that invites both veterans of Total War and new players to experience the enjoyment and depth of the series.
  • newegg New character progression Choose from 9 different clans and compete on and offline for the undisputed supremacy of Medieval Japan. Gain experience to level up your own character-warlord as well as your generals and agents.

  • newegg New Generation AI system Developed according to Sun Tzu’s principles in the Art of War, the Artificial Intelligence constantly analyses its situation and reacts to your every move with greater precision and variety.
  • newegg Improved land and naval battle gameplay Land battles never felt so realistic with new multi-staged castle sieges and terrain features changing according to the weather and time of the day - turning each engagement into a tactical challenge. Islands can work as effective cover for your ships, while sand bars and reefs can be used as traps against an enemy fleet.

2 out of 5 eggsvery different from old versions

Pros: Country map is kinda cool. Multitude of new units, character development trees are interesting. opening scene is very very cool

Cons: battle map play is a real mess. Nowhere near the level of previous Shogun versions. Fighting, movement, all just a kind of mob thing. Individual units impossible to really watch or use in anything more than a very general way. I think they just tried too hard on this one, the detail with trade, city and resource development just gets to taking an unbelievable amount of time. Eventually unrest and rebellions dominates all other concerns regardless. I really wanted to love this game. It is just sadly awful. Steam. nuff said

Other Thoughts: Sometimes complexity is great in a game, not here. Too long to play even a few turns. The game especially suffers on the battlefield play which is just not up to previous versions. On the other hand, ninja are far more interesting and I really liked the expansion of unit types. The old versions updated with development like this, some of the unit types and keeping the old battlefield play would have been much better

2 out of 5 eggspersonal preference

Pros: The graphics are swell. The AI seems to have made a huge leap from some previous total war games. This would probably be a great game if you have Japanese lineage.

Cons: I just didn't enjoy this game, and believe me, I'm all about the total war series. I just couldn't get into the time period. I don't care really care to be Shogun of Japan. I'd rather have a large map with more than one nation. Maybe the main reason I didn't enjoy it was the fact that I had never heard of ANY of the factions in the game, so it just didn't mean much to me.

Other Thoughts: It's not a bad game just not my thing.

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Great gameplay best tw game to date.

Cons: Non just needs patches

Other Thoughts: I started to rofl'ing on some of these reviews, especially the "mob clicking" one xD. Hilarious learn to play the game first instead of spamming probaly some archers or w.e you have and sending them to their doom.

5 out of 5 eggsPlays great with an HD6870

Pros: DX11 graphics look really good with all settings maxed out on a Sapphire HD6870.

Cons: HUGE DOWNLOAD FOR STEAM! Took overnight to get on a 10 meg connection.

Other Thoughts: I've only played 1 tutorial so far, but the graphics are great and the game play is smooth if your system is up to the task.

Intel Quad Core 2.66 ghz
8 GB Corsair DDR3 1333 ram
Sapphire HD6870

All on stock clocks.

1 out of 5 eggsterrible

Pros: Characters look decent when zoomed in, cant play in that mode though

Cons: How this game got good ratings is ?? The whole game is terrible, get large groups of mobs controlled by a line drawn box.

Box clicking massive groups with no real strategy is horrible. Claims of skill and control detail in the game simply dont work at all.

Get a box of 20+ mobs, click to move it, after 10-30 minutes its finally across screen to attack their box of mobs, and who wins theirs no ryme or reason or ability to control the outcomes. Just get lucky and click your box of mobs better then the enemy so your mobs dont die 1st is about all their is. No control whatsoever is to be seen.

Click your group on the enemy group box and wait to see if you win or not is all it does.

Other Thoughts: Horrible game, box click with terrible movement to enemy with no real ability to control if your units die or not. Moving your box around a bit may help, but as your group of mobs in a box attacks another theirs nothing to do once that happens. Very boring, and the supposed strategy = zero. Click group of mobs then wait to see if you win. Catapults are even worse, click to shoot, and they dint even come close to hitting where you aimed. Theirs no aim control for them either. Click enemy group and it self fires at them, but always misses by a mile so its useless 100%.

After 20 minutes of box clicking and no real strategy gave up. This game is horrible.
