3 out of 5 eggsAn OK Port but missing some key things

Pros: Everyone else here already detailed the pros to this game pretty extensively. This is what I think in a nutshell:

1. Graphics and presentation are good but player faces could be better
2. The signature skills and skill point system.
3. Better announcer commentary
4. Awesome dunk, and moves selection

Cons: Aside from what everyone else here has said, it's what they don't include that kinda ticked me off. First, the MyPlayer in the PC version has no clothing store like the consoles have. Also in the PC version, there is no dunk contest and no 3 point contest, which really sucks when your player gets selected for it and nothing happens when all star weekend comes. It's just a bad porting job is all. How hard is it to take your time, do the job right, and even release it a little later than the console versions like other developers do?

There are also some scripting issues like getting caught in screens you're not even close to, or in shoving battles with people in the paint, or trying to block someone and your guy jumps up with the wrong hand, or kicking the ball instead of picking it up. Just little things that a person in real life would look like a buffoon doing.

Then if you get too many highlight plays, it has a weird glitch where the replays are just some quick movement some random player did, and it'll show that highlight over and over instead of the crazy dunk or alley-oop you did. Also a few bugs about getting pushed out of bounds and not getting fouled.

Other Thoughts: The last NBA 2K game I played was 2k10, and I pretty much exclusively play the My Career mode. There are some other features missing that I didn't mention in my cons section but I didn't mention them because I don't really care about them anyway.

3 out of 5 eggsAwesome graphics, Lots of bugs

Pros: The graphics are awesome. The players look amazing. There are tons of options and game sliders. I play in a fantasy league with a few of my friends once a week. We pick the top ten teams and write them on a quarter and draw them randomly from a plastic cup. You control the team you pick. This game is very fun but also very frustrating at times.

Cons: Online play is laggy. The controllers have a slight lag to them which makes the game barely playable. There are glitches like the scoreboard disappearing, when a player cuts to the basket about 95% of the time if you try passing him the ball it gets stolen. One one one defense is very difficult. You miss a free throw when it says A- but make one when it says C-. If the ball so much as hits an opponents leg its a kicked ball. You can push the opposing player out of bounds pretty easily. The computer determines way too much of what's going on. Sometimes you feel like you're always playing against them when you are playing against someone else.

4 out of 5 eggsNew, Improved, and a lot of Jay-Z for filler

Pros: Product Came as Described
Updated & Improved Graphics
Updated Animations
New Shot Stick Controls
GUI is Sparkly
New Player Signature Skills

Overall an improvement from the previous title. The graphics are improved and the animations seem smoother. If you have never played NBA2k, and enjoy playing sports games, basketball, or just twitch skill games, this is fun game to pick up.

With an ATI 4860 & Steams' version of NBA2k12, the game would lag every 5-30 minutes randomly for a few seconds(on or offline). This hasn't happened once with the new version on the same settings. So bonus on the graphics being improved. It looks better too, but not a vast improvement .

Some may argue the Jay-Z package is a pro, but I will actually list most of it as a con. The best part is the sparkly GUI or presentations, though it is in excess. I really enjoy the various stereo style eq graphics which respond to every sound or beat in the game.

New shot stick controls seem like "what the hell" I have to learn new shooting controls? But it was rather easy for me to pick up and I was able to maintain my skill level with minor adjustments. It's a step in the right direction for the overall depth it will add to the game.

New signature skills are all the rage, I suggest getting every player with 3 or more added to your team(I like the buffs).

Cons: Jay Z Package
Shipping Time
Shooting Skill Level
Halftime Sprite Un-Containable (that's not even a word!) Glitch

Jay Z is someone I know very little about, and I don't really like his music, or his ego. The entire game is branded with flashes of "Jay Z this" and Jay Z Music and Jay Z Video Presentations. It's a little too much for even Jay Z fans to handle I would guess. Overall the music selection could have been a little better and a little less Jay Z. Game loses 1 star for Jay Z overkill.

Shipping time was horrible compared to previous purchases from Newegg. Usually "Free Shipping" equates to 4 business days or less. This time it was 7 business days. After talking to a Newegg rep, I was informed that when shipping free under 1 pound, the item will go UPS to your local area, and then to USPS for the actual delivery. If I had only known I would have opted for faster delivery.

Last year my brother and I noticed that 3 point shooting required more timing to land correctly as well as it seemed overall shooting was slightly more difficult. This year it appears that on on the same "Pro" level, 3 point shooting is back to being as easy as it was (or easier) in years prior to the NBA2K12 release. Personally I think they should have adjusted it less, and it just seems like now at the "Pro" level that I usually play on, shooting is too easy. Whereas last year one could argue it was too hard. I would have preferred something lukewarm.

Glitch at Halftime during Association Mode whereas stuff happens to fast, video plays then stops while audio continues, etc. No major glitches, more of an annoyance than a con.

Other Thoughts: Best Basketball Video Game in the World.

5 out of 5 eggsnba 2k13

Pros: This isn't actually a review as I haven't played the game yet, but I just wanted to thank Hietala217 for posting an exceptional review of the game. It gave me a much better overview of the game compared to most review sites out there. Now i'm definitely picking this up. Thanks bud.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Title With Many Improvements

Pros: With a decent PC (using an i7 950 @ 3.07ghz, 12gb ram, 7850 graphics card) and putting the graphics to max it's vastly superior to the console versions.

The new physics are generally very good, some times makes me scratch my head though.

The changes to the control scheme gives it a learning curve, but offers superior dribbling once learned and even more if mastered.

$30 cheaper than the console versions, exact same game. Less is always more in this case!

The added presentation is quite nice, even if just small odds and ends... such players communicating with the coach during free throws, more realistic contact shots and the commentary is improved.

Biggest improvement in my opinion has to be the way Skill Points, animations and signature skills, etc are gained. You no longer deal with 'money' to buy legends training, to pick up new packages (such as dunks, lay ups or shooting styles) but instead all of it is handled via skill points. This gives things a much better perspective in just what a contract is worth to you, as those points can also be used for direct improvement of your character.

Cons: The new physics engine while nice causes some things to happen that are completely baffling. Players getting 'stuck' on one another, which leads to easy shots for the opposition.

A lot of the press conference stuff is just last year rehashed or just added back in with no changes.

The new "GM visits" in My Player are poorly done and seem almost pointless at times.

The new control scheme takes a long time to really get down, much longer to master. I've had the game for 3 days now and I've just now gotten down the primary dribbling combos and post moves. However, playing on Superstar difficulty, learning them has made players with the skillset to use them lethal... still, the learning curve can be painful for those new to the series, or very casual players like my brother.

Even on higher difficulties the CPU will occasionally make very stupid moves, such as driving to the basket and then passing out despite a near (or completely) open lane. Much like last year, the CPU also seems to have a huge advantage over the user team in rebounding when it comes to their offensive boards, there can be one of them and 3-4 of your players and they seem to come down with it at least 50% of the time, occasionally 2-3 times in a row.

ALL of your My Player players look EXACTLY the same. This is a huge downside for me, as I find it strange to see my 6'4" Point Guard and 7'0" Center looking identical AND having the same name, except for their 'nicknames' and the gear I choose to put on them.

Other Thoughts: Most of my cons are personal gripes, but valid ones in the global scope of the game. Even with those cons I mentioned, I am enjoying NBA 2K13 as much and more in many ways than I did 2K12 and I poured easily 200-250 hours into it over the last year.

Unlike last year the CPU seems to be a bit less biased against the User Teams in Association mode when using Trade Finder, for me it's a nice thing, but not really worthy of being listed as a pro.

Setting the difficulty down to Rookie allows anyone to step in and have fun, along with a very reasonable time table to bump up the difficulty. All of these things leave the game as a solid 5 eggs and quite possibly the best NBA 2K game ever released.
