This new expansion provides enhanced depth and replayability through the introduction of international trade and a focus on culture and diplomacy. Your influence around the world will be impacted by creating Great Works, choosing an ideology for your people, and proposing global resolutions in the World Congress. As you move through the ages of history, you'll make critical decisions that will impact your relationship with other civilizations.

Sid Meier's Civilization V: Brave New World also introduces nine new civilizations, eight new wonders, two new scenarios, four new gameplay systems, and dozens of new units, buildings, and improvements. All of these offer an expanded variety of ways to build the most powerful empire in the world.

  • newegg New Culture Victory Spread your culture across the globe, dominating all other cultures. Create masterpieces with Great Artists, Writers, and Musicians that are placed in key buildings across your empire like Museums, Opera Houses, and even the Great Library. Use Archaeologists to investigate sites of ancient battles and city ruins for priceless cultural artifacts. Become the first civilization with a majority influence in all other civilizations to achieve a Culture Victory, becoming the envy of the world.
  • newegg New Policies and Ideologies Enter the Industrial Age and choose the ideology of your people: Freedom, Order, or Autocracy. Each ideology grants access to increasingly powerful abilities, and serves the different victory conditions in unique ways. The choices you make will impact your relationships with other civilizations for the rest of the game.
  • newegg World Congress The importance of diplomacy is intensified and city-state alliances are more important than ever. Change the diplomatic landscape through a new World Congress that votes on critical issues like implementing trade sanctions against rogue nations, limiting resource usage, designating host cities for the World Games, and the use of nuclear weapons. Game-changing resolutions, vote trading, intrigue and a new lead-in to the Diplomatic Victory ensures that the end of the game will be more dynamic than ever before.
  • newegg International Trade Routes Build your cities into hubs of international trade by land and sea, creating great wealth and prosperity for your people, while also spreading religion, cultural influence, and science. The number of trade routes increases through the advancement of economics and technologies, the creation of wonders, and the unique abilities of your civilization. Will you connect to a closer city for a lower payoff and a safer route, choose a longer route with more risk for the bigger payoff, or perhaps point your trade route inward, sending vitally important food and production to the far corners of your own empire?
  • newegg New Civilizations, Units and Buildings Nine new leaders and civilizations are introduced – including Poland, Brazil, Portugal, Zulu, and more – each with their own unique traits, units, and buildings.
  • newegg New Wonders This expansion set introduces eight new Wonders, including the Parthenon, Broadway, the Globe Theater, and the Uffizi.

5 out of 5 eggsmakes a bad game good

Pros: I don't know how it happened, but this expansion makes Civ V enjoyable

adds a lot of new features and complexity that Civ V was sorely missing.

completely revises culture including drastically changed requirements for a culture victory (its no longer insultingly easy) and tweaked social policy trees.

Diplomatic victory has also been changed drastically as well. Victory is no longer randomly determined by dopey AI controlled city states late in the game, instead you now must ally with city states in order to gain votes used in the world congress.

product is a steam code. the 'for mac' has no bearing on what platform the DLC is for.

Cons: if you're familiar with Civ V's criticism as the game being intentionally released unfinished and selling off what should have been core features later on as DLC, that's exactly what BNW is...

Other Thoughts: Bought Civ V on sale a long time ago. Like anyone else who is a fan of the Civ series, I hated it immensely. Vanilla Civ V is so dumbed down and emaciated content wise compared to previous entries in the series, that its like a bad joke.

Likewise, G&K was a feeble addition to an already embarrassing game. The addition of religion and espionage were so rudimentary, minor, and basic that it hardly felt like it truly added anything meaningful.

Brave New World somehow changes everything and makes Civ V a brand new game. Its left me with the feeling that this expansion includes everything that Civ V was originally supposed to have. Basic things like trade. A more common sense approach to culture with tourism and works of art. A diplomatic UN victory that isn't based on random AI anymore. Lots of things including the seemingly bugged AI behaviors. In BNW, the AI controlled civs tend to have personalities they stick with. Before its like they had schizophrenia.

BNW adds a serious level of depth that really wasn't there before. It actually requires some thinking ahead and strategizing now if you play normal difficulty. Prior, it was easy to just click on whatever and you'd still wind up on top quickly running out of buildings to build because there were so few of them to make. Now its easy to run out of turns without hitting all the scientific advances for a space victory.

Personally, with BNW I love Civ V now. Its definitely worth checking out. Having put in several hundred hours after getting BNW, I know for certain it fixes a lot of the problems Civ V started with. It might not top Civ IV as far as best in the series go, but at least BNW makes the game a lot more fun to play.

5 out of 5 eggsSid Meier hates me having free time...

Pros: I did not think it was possible to make Civilization 5 more addictive and entertaining. This addition brings a whole new level of play and makes online play far more entertaining. I have been a fan of Sid Meier for the last 30 years, I played the original board game, then the first computer version, and every iteration since. If you are a Civ fan and want to basically destroy all of your free time, pick this up, it is a refreshing modification to the traditional play and adds several new political aspects to the game.

Cons: This game will turn you into a shut in and you will starve to death because you want one more turn before going and seeking sustenance...
