4 out of 5 eggsGood change

Pros: The game while still being a traditional type MMORPG, has become something more. Rifts opening up during the middle of a quest always keeps players on their toes. The PvP from my personal opinion is excellent. I have only been playing for a little over 2 weeks, and I when I bought the game I was just expecting something to take up what little free time I had, but I got so much more. The graphics are amazing, the roles/classes are in-depth. You can pretty much make your character however you want to doing any combination of any souls.

Cons: The general population of the game is some what small. While this isn't a con to me it might be to some: The overall concept of the game is a bit overwhelming at first (I read about the game hours before I started playing) and I had to get someone in-game to explain things like rifts, invasions, and such.

Other Thoughts: I would suggest this game to anyone MMO fan or not because it's addictingly fun. However, I am not a "hardcore" gamer like some, but for the amount of time that I play and the quality of what I was wanting in a game, Rift by all means meets and exceeds my expectation.

2 out of 5 eggsnot very good.

Pros: Was pretty cool for about 2 weeks then things started to get very boring.

Cons: After just a short time this game gets boring beyond belief.I have a long history of mmo playing and this one fell far short for me.
If you are looking for a new mmo to play i would suggest you look a little harder.

Other Thoughts: People do not like to group. The quests are yawners.Go get 15 of these and when you get back I will send you back to the same area 4 more times.
Once you hit 50 you have the option of gear grinding which s a yawner after 2 days.Or chase rifts. My guess is it will be free to play in a year or so.

3 out of 5 eggsGood MMO, but Nothing New

Pros: Rift offers a quite unique "soul system" (what other games would consider talent trees). Players start out w/ 1 of 4 classes and each of those offer 7 sub-classes as you gain levels. Eventually players can choose up to 3 sub-classes for each character class and add points to each of the 3 soul trees as desired. This makes for some very unique class combos.

The graphics are quite nice, a big update from some of the older MMO's, but nothing really groundbreaking. I'd say Rift graphics are on par w/ AoC but not quite up to Aion standards.

The moveable UI is nice as well. However this is something Aion and a couple of other MMO's have done as well....but still worth a Pro.

Cons: Other than the souls system the game is a mesh of 3-4 other popular MMO's on the market. WoW, Warhammer, AoC-Aion.

The rifts themselves are nothing but a copy of Warhammers "public events"...even the way the event divides the loot/rewards for each event is exactly the same.

If you've played WoW and decide to play Rift you will see that after the new wears off (about lvl 15-20) there are a lot of similarities in the 2 games. Pvp, dungeons, quests, crafting, riding, combat, spells, weapons, gear, gathering, achievements, guilds, banks, books, bags, ect are really carbon copies of WoW.

Other Thoughts: I have not played Rift live, however I was in the beta from closed all the way to final (approx 9 months) and they allowed for the testers to maintain their characters from each new beta. So I was able to have 2 characters @ level 45 and 42 (priest healer and rogue saboteur). After the real testing was over and the last couple of open betas were really just stress tests the game became boring and for me the sense of "nothing new here".

I gave Rift 3 eggs because I do think that it is a good game and well worth trying out. For some the similarities might not be so glaring and can really enjoy the game...however for me everything felt like something I had already done in other MMO's

1 out of 5 eggsHollow game

Pros: In the beginning it is fun and exciting but only for about two weeks.

Cons: Not enough raid content. Not enough to do once you get to 50. Too easy to level as it only took me two weeks to get to level 50. After two weeks it became repeat this and this and do this again. Got very old very quick. Not enough meat to the game, it look cool at first with some great ideas that fall on its face when you play for awhile. I had hoped for something more, anything would have been better. I stopped playing and let my 12 year old son try it and he leveled to 50 in three weeks and just does not play it anymore. I do not press him as I would prefer him out playing anyway but he must have just gotten bored too. If he plays anything now it is EQ2 as I guess it has alot of new stuff with the expansion and patches. He really likes it and keeps asking me to come back, maybe I will??

Other Thoughts: If they do not come up with some more end game stuff soon they are going the loose all of the player base they tricked into coming. Stop spending so much money on advertisements and make the game fun with content. In a year push more adversitement but try to keep the ones you still have before they are gone.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Game

Pros: Character custumization, Rifts, World events, World invastions.

There is Always somthing to do on Rift. Collecting Artifacts can be adictive while questing. Questing does not get boring because while you quest a rift will open and you will be side tracked for a short period of time to close it while others come to help.

Professions are just like any other MMO, so no big change in that nore would i consider it a con.

4 classes, 8 roles per character. You can multi spec. Most classes have the choice to tank/dps/ or heal. If tank or healer drops the instance does not stop because someone can swap spec to tank or cover healing till the LFG system picks someone else up.

Instances Require Tank, 2 Dps, Healer, And a Support class. This is somthing i like because normally a support class is a mage who has healing abilitys to assist in keeping people up, while also Dpsing at the same time.

Trion has been updating fixes/changes to improve the game and has done a fine job so far.

Cons: No cons as of yet.

Other Thoughts: PVP run down:

Black garden - Hold the fang (like capture the flag but you dont cap!) and keep the player holding the fang up. The longer he/she holds the fang the higher the dammage ticks are resulting in killing the player holding it.

Codex - Just like AB ( from wow, almost) cap and hold flags. The Codex flag gives the most points for holding.

Whitefall steppes - Is (WSG) capture the flag.

You cannot compair this game to WOW, nore any other game. Rift is RIFT. All MMORPG use the same idea's but its all on how they implement them is what counts.

This is a wow killer for me, thus maybe not for you. Cata Killed WOW and WOW will kill WOW and its already started. 6 years of wow and Rift is now my RIFT!

Play the game, it's worth it.

If you need any gameplay video's look on youtube, they have tons.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth Your Time

Pros: Great Graphics system (works very well on High-end Systems as well as older rigs), Huge zone wide encounters (Rift Invasions), Good dungeon encounters, great player base, a diverse and extensive class experience.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Bought this game when it first came out and have been hooked ever since. The endgame content is limited but that's to be expected in any new MMO. Not being able to use add-ons and damage/healing meters is a good thing people. Also this game is a great alternative to a certain long running MMO which shall not be named ;D

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic game

Pros: Gameplay is good (typical WOW-type controls), map is expansive, AWESOME that you can have so much flexibility in your character(s). To explain further, in most MMO's, if you want a character with a different spec, you have to create a new one and start from Level 1 with it. In Rift, you basically only need to level up 4 characters: A rogue, a warrior, a mage, and a cleric. The sub-sections for each of these classifications have 8 "souls" from which you can pick-and-choose 3 which determine which abilities the character gets. It's awesome that, whenever you encounter an area that your current build is having trouble with, you can switch "roles" which basically allows you to repick souls and then dispurse your points to give it the abilities that you need to overcome a particular area. Trion is really doing a great job in keeping new material coming and, unlike some MMO's that I've played, they haven't stopped working to perfect the game.

Cons: None really. . . Female characters need a little more cleavage, but that's my personal take on it. LOL

Other Thoughts: I was hesitant when I was mulling-over puchasing this title as I didn't think it would be worth my time. . . I'm glad that I did!!! There is enough in this game thusfar to keep you occupied as the quests aren't the sole focus of the game. Dimensional rifts open up based on the elements Fire, Air, Water, Life, and Death. These rifts are in varying difficulty and really make the game more exciting as they can open up anywhere and at any time. Not only do they open up but, once they get established, they send in invasion forces to attack the local NPC's and players who happen to be in the area. If you like the MMO-type games, this one is worth a look.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth the play

Pros: Rifts can be insanely fun. The PvP was suprisingly good at a low level. The graphics are pretty decent but not as great as everyone claims. Definitely a pro though. I like the idea of the class system although it was taken from Guild Wars from what I understand. Still makes it fun and diverse though. They seemed to combine a lot of the great features from other MMO's and add them together.

Cons: As I said before, the graphics aren't amazing but unique. This is an older graphics engine. I don't know if you could consider this a con but it was definitely over talked. The mechanics are the same as other MMO's. The community from what I've experienced is pretty good, however as others have said, there will always be trolls and negative people.

Other Thoughts: If you complain about this game being the same as other MMO's then I suggest a different genre. This is the curse of computer gaming. It makes me laugh when people bash Console games, yet they complain about their MMO's being the same on computer. This is how the genre is, it works and can be fun. They will all be the same, just with different stories, graphics and a few tweeks here and there. If you don't like it, then try a different genre.

1 out of 5 eggsnothing new.

Pros: graphics look more realistic and detailed then wow.
its like a wow game with guildwars graphics.

Cons: prettymuch a wow knockoff and its not better..
game feels very cluttered, everything is in your face. doesent feel like there is any room to adventure or breathe. you are boxed in and dont have the option to just explore and grind without questing.. i am yet to find any weapons or armor on monsters i have killed. the audio has to be my worst gripe with the game.. every time you swing your sword you hear about the exact same kchik sound.. every explosion sounds the same, the explosions sound the same as the lightning in the sky. with wow there was different music according to the area you were in.. sofar i have heard the exact same thing over and over. with world of warcraft, i felt like i could just go out and explore and see what the huge world offered me. if i didnt like this lvl 30 area thats ok.. there were 5 other areas that i can level in. with rift i feel boxed in. simply go here, there is two quests there, then go here theres two more.. ok go here.. seems bland.

Other Thoughts: it feels like there are just random walls seperating areas with npc's standing around to give you quests. there are toomanny monsters and toomanny trees and toomuch rubble around.. you cannot see off in the distance. its like viewing a neighborhood after a tornado came through.. and all the objects are bright and reflective.. way too much bloom. all the characters seem to glow like they are radioactive. 2 factions, several different classes per faction, 3 skill trees per class, its just the same.. players who have played wow will find themselves bored and not interested.
im only playing the trial. and hate it sofar.. il give it another shot.. if im not introduced to a new open area soon im done with this game and not comming back. its too bad i have been looking for another mmo.. once one that feels like oblivion comes out maybe it will kill wow. but this game doesent have a chance.

4 out of 5 eggsA good effort

Pros: I think this game holds its own and does so pretty well. I really am enjoying leveling in this game and I haven't liked that since I played WOW for the first time. Yes the quests are just the same ol go kill 10 things and come back or collect items and come back but really how much better could you make this system? The UI is very similar to WOW and even EQ in the sense that you can move things around. The graphics look great to me. Running two 9800 gt's in sli and get 60fps in most places(high settings).

People so far have been pretty nice and want to work together when it comes to rifts. Unlike WOW when you enter a pug and people do nothing but bash or act childish. Trolling is fun but gets old fast when it happens in 90% of pugs. I'm sure no matter what game you go to you're going to get a few bad people but for the most part, everyone has been very friendly. It reminds me of how nice everyone was in EQ. Something that WOW has lacked forever.

Cons: * I don't think it will beat the WOW fanbase enough to really hurt Blizzard. Basically, I don't think it's the "WOW Killer," everyone made it out to be.
* The mob respawn time is waaaaaaaaaaay to short. It really needs to be revamped or at least thought about. Like someone said before, you can litearlly turn around for a moment and look back and be dead. It's extremely frustrating in my opinion. I understand the low down-time leveling idea but I shouldn't have to focus on my game so much to make sure I'm in a safe spot before answering a phone call..........

Other Thoughts: Information isn't as easily available as for WOW but that's to be expected. Rift Junkies and wiki are all I'm able to come up with right now. Hopefully more information will be available soon. I think if you are on the fence for this game, you should give it a chance. I really bad mouthed the game until I actually sat down and tried it. I have not touched my WOW account since I've started playing. Only thing that will stop me from playing is Diablo III and I don't see that coming out anytime soon ;O.
