When Emperor Uriel Septim VII is assassinated, the transdimensional gates between the world of Cyrodiil and the Planes of Oblivion open and the demonic Daedra invade. Your character is tasked to return the last surviving member of the Septim line, recover the Amulet of Kings and close the gates.

How you do this is entirely up to you as the world of Cyrodiil is not only lushly rendered using the latest next-gen graphics and lighting and shading effects, but it is vast and designed for non-linear sandbox play with dynamic weather and lighting. The Plane of Oblivion – the otherworldly home of the Daedra – is also given the same level of detail. Wilderness quests, ruins and dungeons await as do urban environments – all populated by NPC's utilizing the Radiant AI system which brings them to life.

Rather than having to repeatedly walk through the same areas, rideable horses have returned as has the ability to teleport back to areas your character has already visited. Stealth, magic and combat skills have been rebalanced with combat skills streamlined. Missile attacks are now resolved based on actual hits and characters can actively block incoming enemy attacks with a successful block causing the foe to recoil – and creating the opportunity for an attack of your own. Additional content, equipment and missions can be downloaded to aid your quest – and to provide new challenges.

3 out of 5 eggsdecient game.

Pros: graphics, details, storyline, character interaction.
the game has a overall good feel to it, sometimes you may feel like you are actually in the game.

Cons: unless im mistaken there is only 2 types of dungons, one of them is all rock, and the other is like a temple.
all the shrines and caves look almost identical.
closing the gates in the plane of oblivion gets repetitive and old after the first couple gates.
you will probably get tired of seeing the same tables, boxes, beds and furnishings in each building.

Other Thoughts: the game is decient, if you have a appetite for adventure and want a beautifull environment to play in, oblivion sounds like a good game for you.

2 out of 5 eggsBoring!!

Pros: It has great reviews.

Cons: It's probably just me but this game is extremely boring. I love Fallout 3 and Mass Effect, etc. but this RPG is just boring.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I missed the boat and should have got this when it first came out but I was very disappointed in this game. Oh well!!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Simply to this date(March 4th 2011) one of my favorite games to play. hundreds of hours worth of gameplay, not too mention more given thousands of mods available. Still is a fantastic looking game especially with texture mods. this game that will always keep u coming back. so many different ways to do things, open vast world. i remember first coming out of the Sewers casting a fire ball and watching it seem like it went forver!

Cons: Was a performance hog for its day, running this on my old computer(athlon 64 3200+ + MSi 6800 Ultra) and comparing it to my primary set-up( Phenom II 955 + 2x GTX 260's in SLI)
the difference is unbelievable. a 6800 Ultra was one of the more power cards on the market when oblivion was launched and barely pulls of 30fps on really nerfd settings. remember those days? lol

Other Thoughts: If ur yet to play this, order now, u will not regret it i promise. if ur a hardcore FPS fan(i was) and think this will be a dumb game, give it a chance, i promise u'll get addicted

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Incredible

Pros: This game is an amazing 1st or 3rd person real-time action fantasy RPG (I recommend you play in 1st person). The game itself is a large, open and expansive journey that scales to your character's level, so feel free to explore! There is one amazing storyline and a slew of side-quests. There is no requirement to follow any quest or even the storyline. You may feel free to loot and destroy random dungeons throughout the land and buy up all of the various available homes in each town without so much as considering helping it's people.

Cons: No multiplayer (though there may be beta-mods to facilitate a buggy form of multiplayer). Casting spells takes some getting used to and is a bit clumsy, but for a FPF (first-person fantasy) it's about the best that can be done. The quests are linear, even if very enjoyable.

Other Thoughts: I have to say that I've played this game through and through many times. I've solved every quest using a multitude of strategies and I tend to go back to play from the start every time I think of a new fun way to play. If you love fantasy RPG's and don't mind (or enjoy) having to aim, swing, cast and block in real-time, you're going to absolutely love this game.

5 out of 5 eggs4 years old, and still one of the best games available

Pros: The game arrived quickly, in great condition. It was boxed nicely, and was able to install it quickly with little trouble.

Cons: A common side-effect is going missing from civilization for hours on end.

Other Thoughts: If contemplating whether to get this game for console or PC, definitely get it for the PC. The computer version offers thousands of mods (legal of course) that can be downloaded off the internet, and can completely overhaul your gaming experience. Everything from quests and items, to graphics and UI can be changed.

I am writing this review in October of 2010, almost 5 years after the game was released in 2006, and it is still one of the best games available for purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsStill Going

Pros: Excellent game.

Cons: Game is not SLI or CrossFire friendly, Didn't know this until had already bought it and reading the instructions.

Other Thoughts: I'm running it in CrossFire and have a few problems with it. but still one of the best games I have played in years.

5 out of 5 eggsMy Favorite

Pros: I've played this game for years now and still useing the editor building new worlds and NPCs. This is that (forever) game you want to always have on your computer!

Cons: It will take some horse power to run good

Other Thoughts: Did a dual boot with XP and Win7-64 just so I could run this game in the Real XP sweet spot! It will run fine in Win7-64 with Admin and compatbilty rights for XP SP2.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Game!

Pros: Very in-depth game. Very complex. Very interesting parallels to how religion and devil cults are in real life; though many probably will not pick up on this aspect. So, in stating so, the game designers pay attention to details.

Cons: No real ending of the game. Need a decent graphics card to process it a full graphics. Expansion packs/plugins are separate and you have to pay for just about all of them separately.

Other Thoughts: Love the game. I have spent hours playing it.

Pros: I WAITED TILL ALL THE EXPANSIONS WERE HERE FOR $20 A STEAL.I LOVE THIS GAME.

Cons: NONE FOR THE PRICE

Other Thoughts: BOUGHT THE FIRST GAME AND THE 2 EXPANSIONS COST ME $100 NOT THIS TIME. HEY IF YOU HAVE THE FIRST GAME ON YOUR FIRST MISSION IN THE GRASS DON'T REMEMBER WHERE YOU'LL JUST WALK ON TO IT... BUT THERE IS A SWORD THAT MAKE'S YOU INVINSIBLE YOU CAN KILL ANY THING IT'S RED WITH GREEN EMERALDS.MAKES THE GAME ALOT MORE FUN.
