Pros: Outstanding game for those who enjoyed the original version on the PlayStation.

Cons: Haven't really found one other than wishing the game was longer.

5 out of 5 eggsXCOM Enemey Unknown - A Must Buy!

Pros: I'm an old fan of the original XCOM from 1993. Played it off and on over nearly a decade until DOS based PC's died out and the 3.5" discs did't work in the PC's I was buying or building due to the OS. I loved the orginial.

This nex version captures the feel of the original game but the graphics are a huge jump forward. I described it to a friend familiar with the orginail as XCOM meets Mass Effect graphics.

The sounds, graphics, landscapes, aliens you will encounter are all excellently rendered. I'm running this on a home built PC with two Fermi GTX460 cards by MSI and an AMD 950 processor, 8 gigs of 1333 Ballistix RAM. (Yes an AMD CPU with NVIDIA based graphics cards). It plays smooth as silk, no glitches, no hang-ups.

Landscape; trees, rocks, walls, windows, doors, street lamps, etc. is destructable. The original game had similar fetures but much more crudely done given the 1993 time the original was new.

The cut scene movies are nicely done but after a while you get a little bored watching the Skyranger aircraft going out and landing or flying back to the base. They try and make it vary a bit but there's only so much that can be done.

This is Turn Based strategy, like a big game of chess. You position your strike team members, once your players are all moved then the Aliens do their thing. Save frequently and turn off the Auto-save. It can hose you bad if you aren't really careful. Once one of your team members gets killed they stay killed if the auto-save or you save them in that state. Then if you're really attached to that player you will have to go back in the game and load when they still existed to play forward again. Combat even on Normal level is very tough. It pays to go slowly and be cautious. Cars once hit will burn then explode. If your player is hiding behind one the blast will take them out. Run away!

I received the game Saturday Oct. 20th, so only had 2 days to of play that I can review as of this posting. Haven't finished it yet, should take a while.

Cons: Cons, let me think .... not much of anything in particular. Maybe the closest thing to a Con is that you will meet pretty much the same alien species as you did in the original XCOM. There are still; Sectoids, Mutton Troops, Crysallids, Cyber Discs. There are new ones as well. I don't think this is much of a Con as part of the attraction is that it's like visiting and old friend you haven't seen in 10 years or more.

Oh one real con, based on Steam, so I don't think it can be played off line. Haven't tried it for the Single player game version, there is a multiplayer.

Other Thoughts: You do need Win 7 to play it but seriously if you're a PC gamer time to move up the ladder a bit for an OS. If your PC can't handle Win 7, time to buy or build another one as you're 10 years behind.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic!

Pros: Awesome game, runs beautifully on any pc or laptop with a dedicated video card. Apparently there is an issue if you are running an operating system that is 10 years old? Seriously who still has this problem?

I played the everloving-**** out of the original, and am glad to report that this newer and updated version captures the majority of the same feelings I had while playing the original XCOM.

It is not an identical system, but the mechanics, music, sounds, video, and just everything really make this game immersive and fun!

Also there is a story!

This game is at least as difficult as the original, so that that should keep the enthusiasts interested.

Cons: Cons cons...., always something not to like. It can be a bit glitchy on different levels of terrain, and some of the play options seem to get buggy if you have been on the same map for a while. Once in a while I will mis-click and one of my dudes will run out in front of a pack of aliens and get turned into goo, but hey, it has only been out a week, so I give it some slack.

Still 5 eggs, because its not Newegg's fault that the game could do with a bit of polish.

Other Thoughts: If you like any kind of turn based strategy game on earth, you should treat yourself to this one. You will not be disappointed.

1 out of 5 eggsWhere is the system test app

Pros: The Original XCOM was a fun game.

Cons: Instead of directly identifying the game will not work with XP on the package or the installer, you have to find out after wasting 4-5 hours installing. So one egg.

2K website has a small blurb about a Kernal32.dll error. But mostly tells you to upgrade to Win7.

I think not including support for XP was a bad marketing idea. XP will still be used as a game OS up to and past 2014.

Other Thoughts: This is why you don't let someone buy software for you that doesn't know your PC or OS. And from what I've seen of the demos, I don't find a rehash of a previous game good enough to force me to upgrade my OS just yet.
