5 out of 5 eggsThere are no real reviews of this product

Pros: You usually take these reviews with a grain of salt. I had to post something here to give a real evaluation of the software because it seems that the 2 negative reviews (out of 3) are from folks that dont know what they're talking about. I'm a parallels user that tried Fusion when it was v2 on leopard. I never went back. Why? First, they don't come out with new versions on a whim, there is usually a major change that triggers a version upgrade. Second, if you are constantly upgrading OSX to the latest, then pay for the support of Fusion and you'll get new versions as they come out.

To the guy whining about the "free" upgrade, first, read the dates you provided, if you bought on the 17th, and upgrade elligibility is from the 25th onward, then duh, how were you ripped off? Second, if you were in support (1 year) then you're elligible for the version upgrade. Register your software man, go on the internet and pay attention. Just because you called some sales line in India, doesn't mean you're going to get a bunch of free stuff because you're a great guy. Why threaten to remove business bla bla, their software runs 100% of the fortune 100 companies, i'm sure they're out to rip you off for your $50. Unlike parallels, this is not their only line of revenue.

Now, mac on mac virtualization, is completely allowed in the apple EULA. Fusion 5 supports it.

Whoever put a 1 egg rating for your inability to install XP, well you get a 1 egg rating for being dumb.

I have various macs here, all are on ML, and running VM's of windows XP, 7, 8, 2003R2, 2008R2, SL Server, Lion, and ML

Cons: I would like to have the ability to define the internal subnet range without hacking the config files. Add an advanced button or something. Another con is that the default VMDK file size is in 2G chunks, let me define the way this gets built in the wizard, the merge function doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: This needs a proper review without a bunch of internet junk talk. Better yet, before buying, go to their web site and download the 30 day trial, run it for yourself and if it works, great. If not just delete the .app and move on. If you frequently find yourself stuck, needing that PC app to run once in a while, this will save you alot of time. If you think this is just going to click, done, and no windows quirks, then just install bootcamp and boot into PC, because running both at the same time, sharing hardware is just going to be confusing to you.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT even try it on Mac

Pros: none

Cons: Terrible soft. Did not finish proper installation of Win XP SP3, and does not allow me to remove Fusion 5 from the latest MacBook Pro notebook, latest OS for 3/20/2013. Total crapware!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Experienced Mac professional who's been running VMWare since 2.0 - it is a fantastic product. VMWare is the virtualization industry standard, and the Fusion Mac product much simpler than Parallels. Parallels installs several kernel extensions, and libraries all over your Mac that "take it over". VMWare contains one simple Kernel Extension, and has all the features you would ever need. Parallels tends to break with every Mac OS upgrade, but VMWare 3 or higher still works on 10.5 - 10.8. Sounds like the individual in the review below me just doesn't have any people skills. VMWare support is world-class!

Cons: Current versions disallow OS X within OS X virtualization due to Apple policies. Same for Parallels, though.

Other Thoughts: Totally necessary if you're in enterprise or a PC world!

1 out of 5 eggsI was lied to by this fraudulent company.

Pros: It works, sort of. Back on July 17th 2012 I was considering VMWare Fusion for my Mac, but was worried about support for Mountain Lion that was about to be released. I e-mailed the VMWare pre-sales support department and they assured me that if I bought VMWare Fusion 4 now I would get a free update to the version that fully supported Mountain Lion when it was released. After Mountain Lion was released they came out with this new version of Fusion 5 in August. I e-mailed their support department and they offered me a 25% discount off the new version upgrade (also worth noting is that the upgrade price is exactly the same as the full retail box at the time of that e-mail and this writing).

I have sent countless e-mails explaining my situation, and I keep getting the same cookie-cutter, scripted response:

Cons: "As I understand, you would like to have a free upgrade to Fusion 5. Please note I checked the order #XXXX and the order was dated on # 2012/07/17. Please note currently we have a Technology Guarantee Program (TGP) and VMware provides a free copy of VMware Fusion 5.x if you have purchased a copy of Fusion 4 from www.vmware.com or a VMware Reseller between July 25th, 2012 and September 30th, 2012. Please note your order dated on 2012/07/17 and this order is not eligible for free upgrade. For more information on "VMware Fusion 5.x sales, licensing, and compatibility FAQs", please click on the below link. Http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2032855."

This says 2 things to me: (1) They didn't care to even read my e-mail stating that I was assured by their own pre-sales support that I would get the upgrade, and (2) note the date on that cutoff -- 8 DAYS AFTER MY PURCHASE! This means that even if I didn't get that false promise, this is the kind of company VMWare is, this is how they treat paying cus

Other Thoughts: My advice: go with another product from a company that cares about their customers. I have no experience with running VMs with software like Parallels or others, but I would certainly recommend using another company.

I will never buy another product from VMWare for the rest of my life, and they lost all of my IT business recommendations as well since this customer service is almost always an indication of the company philosophy and culture, which is not easily or quickly changed over the years (at a minimum it usually requires a new CEO for example). If I actually had a business agreement with many of these licenses with them there would most certainly be litigation involved, but as an individual I basically just lost $50.

Consider my case carefully because when one builds VMs on VMWare, one is looking at full re-installations if moving to another (i.e. VMs on VMWare systems will not work on Parallels, etc.). VMWare has lost all of my future business. I hope that $50 was worth it
