1 out of 5 eggsthrew it away

Pros: came free so instead of uninstalling the free microsoft antivirus software I threw this thing into the garbage.

Cons: well of course I cannot offer any opinion. I was not encouraged to use it because it was a one year license, and there are free downloadable antivirus products, with very good reviews, that make this thing unimpressive as such regardless of any objectively supportive review of its quality.

4 out of 5 eggsCant beat free

Pros: Free
Decent AV

Cons: Puts a triangle with a "!" on the network icon and says "no internet connection". You still get a connection but it messes with my OCD a bit.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Running on a computer with the ancient Win XP and even then, not taking up substantial memory. I like the frequent updates (multiple a day) and all the advanced customizations in the settings. For the most part I use default but it's nice to know it's there if I wanted it. So many efficient tools that can be customized for those with advanced knowledge or spared for those with minimal computer knowledge.

Cons: Getting updates from Kaspersky Labs seems to be a slow process, but I'm willing to bet it's just my PC.

5 out of 5 eggsOn 4 computers

Pros: I've used it for several years and it works great. The only troubles I have encountered is the same thing I had on Trend Micro and Norton. If you do an upgrade first go to settings and disable everything and then restart your system. Then uninstall the old version yourself manually rather than letting the Security program do it. If you are switching security programs do the same method and go to their web site to get one of their "Complete software removal tools". Now you can install the latest version and then check all settings including automatic updates.

Cons: If you don't clean out older versions of either Kaspersky or any other security software then the system runs extremely slow and unreliable. I got burnt by doing an upgrade from version 2011 to 2012 because I forgot the lessons I learned with doing a Norton upgrade. ALWAYS deactivate all settings on the security software you are running and then do a restart. After that remove the old software and then install the newer version even if it is just an upgrade.

Other Thoughts: It has consistently found "stuff" and has worked fine in the background. It is up to you to check your settings to make it run as aggressive or benign as you want it to.

4 out of 5 eggsPrefer the plain antivirus version

Pros: Kaspersky makes the best antivirus program. I have sold to customers for a couple of years and it is about 100% effective.

Cons: I prefer the plain Antivirus version. The extra bells and whistles of the internet security to improve security, but add several components that run all of the time. Avoid this version on older computers.

Other Thoughts: FYI, I tried the Kaspersky Pure version awhile back and it is way too heavy

2 out of 5 eggsFree is still too expensive!

Pros: (1) Very effective anti-virus software with industry-leading detection rates.
(2) I paid nothing for it.

Cons: (1) Causes unacceptable performance hit even on high-end PC's. (for all tasks but especially kills internet speed)
(2) Firewall causes random interruptions of internet connection requiring reboot.
(3) Slow, lazy and incompetent e-mail-only tech support.
(4) Activation/subscription problems.

Other Thoughts: I received Kaspersky IS-2012 for free as part of a bundle from & decided against my better judgment to try it again after numerous problems on customers PC's several years since my Norton 360 subscription was about to expire.
Sadly it seems nothing has changed and in fact if anything as the bloat-factor of this security suite has increased so have the problems its likely to cause on your PC. After a couple days of fruitless back & forth regarding my subscription showing only 270 days instead of 365 via email with tech support who seemingly couldn't care less, I gave up, uninstalled it & immediately my testing PC was working fine again.
All security suites have potential issues depending on your system configuration, but Kaspersky 2012 is by far the worst I've ever experienced in this regard. If you want to go with their stand-alone AV its not a bad choice (hence the 2-star rating) but I strongly suggest avoiding this suite unless trouble-shooting is somthing you enjoy.

1 out of 5 eggsno good...

Pros: eh...

Cons: would not update automatically. had to manually update and restart after each new "package"

Other Thoughts: received this as a part of a bundle. installed it and would not load updates. i had to load manually and perform a restart after each one. customer service was of absolutely no help. had to submit a support ticket. they responded 1.5 days later with a literal cut and paste from their forums (which I had already scoured). ticket was automatically closed with out any further "help". some reviews on various sites had conflicting results. some praise. some berate. i did read in some places that kaspersky along with other a/v software makers are on a cyber-terror watch list of sorts. the us (and others) advise not to use a/v software from russia, china, et al. i dunno. my experience was negative despite what you may read elsewhere.

5 out of 5 eggsGet the right one

Pros: GREAT, way better than the norton bundled with another motherboard i got.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I really like it a lot. So much so that I wish I didn't fall for the bundle and just bought it for 1-3 computers and now I want the TOTAL and have to buy it all over again.
