1 out of 5 eggsGood For Only 1 year

Pros: It probably works.

Cons: Maybe I have been using free anti-virus software(such as avast) for so long that I am out of sinc but it was very surprising that this software is good for only 1 year and you have to buy it again. That is what the tech support guy at the Kas Lab told me.

Other Thoughts: I heard that the rebate is very slow. I would not know since I am RMAing this tommorow.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No firmware/SW would work with the unit - All software that came with product and the online updates simply refused this

Cons: not sturday, broke during normal wear, not even a bump, just hen taking the shoe off even

Other Thoughts: This should be integrated across smartphone or smart-watch apps

5 out of 5 eggsLove Kaspersky

Pros: Easy to install, the interface is really user friendly, doesn't kill my performance.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This has been the best AV software i have tried. I have stuck with this company for 5+ years now and because its been SO good they have a lifetime customer.

4 out of 5 eggsDon't Count on the Rebate

Pros: If it were not for the rebate, I would have bought the AV product. The AV protection is quite sound, and quickly resolved a HOSTS file compromise that was affecting certain sites I visited.

Cons: Purchased this on 2/6/13... Mailed in rebate a week later. Now nearly 2 months later, my rebate status is still "processing". I'm not impressed.

It is difficult to find out why stuff is being blocked, so setting exclusions and filters is frustrating. No drill down capabilities on the report logs. The Kaspersky forums are somewhat helpful, but most often the answers involve defending the software and blaming "something" in your installation.

Other Thoughts: Don't count on the software prediction of scan time. The "less than one minute remaining" notice on a full scan might be present for an hour... not even close!

4 out of 5 eggsGood product, terrible nag, slow rebates.

Pros: Easy install, does what it's supposed to do and does it well. Not a memory hog, does not significantly slow the system down or interfere with day-to-day operation.

Cons: Ordered this on 11/2/2012 on a $55 rebate offer. Just got the rebate today, 4/3/2013.

Installs unwanted commercial software and attempts to nag you into using it. Took me FOREVER to kill the ap. Also starts nagging over a month from license expiration that your license is about to expire. Keeps nagging and nagging until it gets sickening. Finally updated with the new license code over a week ago and today, received another message that my license had expired. How stupid can you get??? Took off 1 star for this idiocy.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect timing

Pros: I bought this on sale for $45 and during the time for a $45 mail in rebate, so this will end up being free, that is if I get the rebate. I have used Kaspersky for at least 10 years and I have never had an infection problem when using it. I also use the free Malwarebytes manually to catch any minor annoyances that Kaspersky may miss. I tried using the auto protection offered by Malwarebytes, however it conflicts with Kaspersky, causing to many problems including locking up my system. I make sure Windows Firewall and Defender are off just in case Kaspersky did not already do that, Kaspersky has proven to me that it does a better job than Windows protection, having them on does not add protection it only slow my system down.

Cons: The only thing I can think of is more of an annoyance, is there have been times when Kaspersky did not auto update and the Windows gadget shows the yellow alert screen, after updating it does not reset even after refreshing the screen or opening and closing it. You have to restart the system to get it to update to the green check mark screen.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because the version I bought from Best Buy subscription service did not work as I think it should. About 30 days prior to expiring the Windows gadget turns yellow warning you of the time you have left. Great so I go to the Best Buy portal through Kaspersky and renew my subscription and exit out to see my Windows gadget green again. The next day it is yellow again, so I hit the update subscription button, Windows gadget is green again. This goes on for a week, and now I am getting popups saying how many days I have left on my subscription, I go back to the Best Buy portal again and see that it is not going to renew until the day it expires. I decided to ignore it until I was playing Guild Wars 2 online and ended at my Desktop screen looking at a warning popup about my subscription again. I call Best Buy subscription service and I am politely told that this will happen until the day it renews, nothing they can do about it, they can not take the money for it until then. I informed them they can not annoy their customers like that, they either need to take out the popups at least, or take the money for it stopping the warnings and not use it until the day of renewal. I said I would even be happy to lose those days and start the renewal now just to get rid of those popup warnings, the response was, "sorry we can not do that here, you could always buy another copy and use that", which is how I came to Newegg. This is just to help anyone who has either bought this service from Best Buy or was thinking about it.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent protection..if you're willing to endure a couple shortcomings

Pros: Seems to be pretty comprehensive. Minimal notifications and interruptions - it just does its job. Performance impact appears to be relatively light. KIS also handles OS upgrades rather gracefully in most cases.

Cons: UI could be friendlier. Has a useless splash screen just like Norton that displays four of its eight giant icons..you have to scroll Metro-sytle to see the rest. Getting tired of this visual gimmick. Firewall is nowhere NEAR as friendly as Avast's or even Norton's..I can't even figure out how to control network access for individual apps! With most other security wares this is simple.

Other Thoughts: That refund that takes 4-6 weeks? Ha! Its been well over two months and NOTHING. When I put in my number on Kaspersky's refund site it rejects it. Newegg has ignored my email requests for help. Between this and the interface issues I wish I'd gotten Norton or Avast instead.

3 out of 5 eggsRebate?

Pros: Works great.

Cons: I've been waiting over 3 months to receive the rebate from Kaspersky. I called and had all the information requested and was informed it is being processed. I knew that already from checking the submission status. 3 MONTHS!!!

4 out of 5 eggsGood Protection, Poor Product Support

Pros: I've been a KIS user for about seven years and the product has mostly improved with every new release. This version was very simple and fast to install not even requiring a restart. The interface is easy to use for both beginning and advanced users with only a slight performance impact and does a good job of all around protection from various threats. The AD blocker, Safe Money URL filter, snf Virtual Keyboard nice features provided you have a support browser.

Cons: Outside of Chrome and Internet Explorer, some of the browser plugins may not work (URL filter, Safe Money Virtual Keyboard, AD Blocker) after upgrading to newer browsers (namely Firefox) and Kaspersky Labs is slow to release patches for these features (2 weeks to 2 months), if a patch is released at all for certain Firefox versions. Unfortunately, the workaround is not to upgrade the browser if these features are used. Norton updates similar browser add in features usually the same night as a new Firefox release.

Other Thoughts: Overall KIS is good product that does a nice job of protecting from viruses and other security threats. Unfortunately some of the newer browser security add ins may not work.
