3 out of 5 eggsKaspersky did not honor warranty

Pros: I've used Kaspersky for years. The protection seems solid and never any major issues.

Cons: Kaspersky has denied my rebate claim. I followed the directions precisely but after months they sent a letter which I thought was my rebate since it was on perforated paper. The letter denied my claim for the reasons:
- Receipt submitted is from a non-qualifying store/retailer.
- No sales receipt submitted, a qualifying sales receipt is required.

I provided exactly what was asked for in the rebate instructions. I'm not sure if the problem lies with newegg or Kaspersky but be warned you may not get a rebate if you get this during a rebate promotion. I've never had problems with any other rebates on purchases from newegg.

Other Thoughts: I only bought this because it was free after rebate. I'm disappointed that the rebate wasn't honored.

2 out of 5 eggsKaspersky joining the dark side

Pros: Kaspersky has been known for generally decent quality antivirus for many years now-and the quality is still there.

Cons: Despite decent quality antivirus, Kaspersky has joined the minions of unsatiable software vendors that are never happy with how much they sell you. Just like a magazine that starts begging you to renew your subscription a month after you start it. Splash screens trying to sell sell sell and emails harassing you when you are busy. Demanding an email address for av software is why I left Norton and McAfee. Also Kaspersky seems to run a bit heavier than it used to and has more features than I like. It does not like to run in the background and periodically sticks its icons and notifications right back in your face again after you have tucked them away. Antivirus is like the police-you like knowing that you have them around but do not like seeing them or thinking about them every time you do something.

Other Thoughts: I won't be buying Kaspersky any more. If I have to be advertised to, I want to be paid for wasting my time and resources and interfering with my focus-not *pay* for the "privilege". I have been looking for an anti-virus that gives me the option of shutting them up and will pay green money for it. Anybody out there want to make money and keep customers?

5 out of 5 eggsKaspersky is Great

Pros: Have not had a virus since switching to Kaspersky. Great Newegg Price...Free after rebate.

Cons: Makes some blocking decisions for me. At times have to turn off protection to access a certain website. Have not figured out why I get a blank screen on that site. Works well when turned off on the site. ????

1 out of 5 eggsTried it in Macbook, failed miserably

Pros: At $70 with a $60 rebate, I tried it, having read a lot of positives about Kaspersky in the past years.

It came with cds for Mac and PC -- perfect for this household with five PCs and three Apple products.

Cons: I installed it on the MacBook on Monday eve. Tuesday morning, the MacBook ran syrupy. I checked modem and Airport Extremes, as our Internet is sometimes spotty, but all was peachy. In the course of the day´s work, the MacBook became unusable. Its speed resembled an invalid´s heroic attempt at running the Marathon -- its heart was in there, but the legs kept folding. And sites kept crashing, which had never before happened (would I have bought an expensive MacBook if I wanted to see crashes?).

Other Thoughts: This went on for two days, with multiple attempts to rectify. Nothing helped. So I did an Uninstall, using the Kaspersky cd. This, amazingly, worked like a charm. Uninstalled, restarted, I think I heard a very faint "Hallelujah!" from my MacBook, which then loaded in its usual rapid fashion, and ever since, not one crash, no slowing down. Nada. Just perfect Apple-ication. The way I like it.
Bummer with the Kaspersky. I will not try it on the PCs or the iPads.

5 out of 5 eggsVery excellent!

Pros: Well, basically the pros here are that it's Kaspersky Interwebs Security basically, not just anti-virus which is awesome since you have a VERY excellent firewall and VERY excellent anti-virus, as well as some ad blocking features and system vulnerability scanner.

And, you get a 60 dollar rebate! Wow! Three PCs can be used as well as two android devices for 10 dollars?! Oooooo weeeee!! That's one fiiine deal!

Cons: NONE. Except I'd rather have the rebate be more an automatic markdown at checkout versus waiting a while for it.

Other Thoughts: Also, this is OBVIOUSLY not meant for Windows 8/8.1 RT as there isn't a SINGLE piece of malware that works on Windows RT since it uses an ARM processor and doesn't allow third party Win32 Desktop apps. This should be fairly obvious as this is even roughly stated on the box that came with the tablet.

Also, I've used Kaspersky since about 2008 or 2009 and it's been consistently found to be the best of the best, either top three, second or first, out of every other security suite. Version 2014 is just much more polished than 2013, although some fine grain controls were removed, but nonetheless. It'll work perfectly well for the majority of people. It does allow you to turn off features you don't need. And to that reviewer who said this suite "digs too deep into the system," welcome to the world of security software. IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO THAT.

1 out of 5 eggsCompatibility Issue wit Windows 8.1 RT

Pros: None

Cons: Won't work on Windows RT 8 version RT

Other Thoughts: Can't return opened software. Newegg does not mention that this internet security by Kaspersky won't work on RT.

1 out of 5 eggsKaspersky - diagnose thyself.

Pros: Purchased with a rebate, this was a $15 dollar mistake instead of a $70 dollar mistake.

When you cannot get on the internet consistently, you stand less chance of finding items that are potentially infected.

Uninstalling the software makes all the problems go away.

Cons: I have never in the history of my using computers found a piece of software as horrifically buggy as this one.

1. Invasive to an extreme - the amount of hooks it puts into the system are outrageous.

2. Unconfigurable - You cannot install this software in pieces, it is all or nothing. Worse, even if you turn off all functions, the hooks remain active. Want something in your back pocket only to scan the occasional file for viruses or do some proactive scanning on your off hours? Good luck.

3. Unstable - after installation, all web browsing comes to a complete and utter halt. You might be able to look at one or two websites, but expect to come to a complete halt afterwards. Chrome, IE, Firefox all stop responding, and cannot even force quit out.

4. System responsiveness becomes spotty - again even if you've turned off ALL functions of the software.

Other Thoughts: It is an extreme shame to discover how invasive and obstructive Kaspersky software has become. I was perfectly happy with older iterations, especially of their Anti-Virus software.

This piece of software is the first commercially purchased software I have encountered that should be labeled Malware.

I'd return it, except I've already activated the 1 year license.
