5 out of 5 eggsLongtime SBS User / Admin

Pros: Integrated server perfect for small businesses. Don't let the end of life promise of this OS scare you - it is a powerful OS with capabilities that every small business can easily manage. From an internal Sharepoint "intranet" site to Email via Exchange and effortless VPN and File sharing... don't let this one pass you by. The new "Server Essentials" platform that Microsoft is introducing can't even compare to all you get with SBS 2011. I've run the predecessor 2008 for a long time, and am very comfortable with the line.

Cons: End of Life by the end of 2013. Such a fantastic small business server OS should be kept going. It's also a bit of a RAM hog - be sure you've got at least 16GB for this version if possible.

Other Thoughts: WaterwayTek is correct - this DOES ship with the media, so don't let Newegg's title fool you. The Discs included are the OS install, the prep disc and a recovery disc. Easily imaged to ISO format for deployment via VMware if you so choose.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat small business server

Pros: Lowest price small business server with real premium feel.

Cons: We are talking about a server OS here, so if you're new to this be prepared to spend time learning about it so it will perform properly.

Other Thoughts: I've used SBS 2003, 2008 and 2011 in a multitude of client's locations. It's been a product that I've installed, managed and support for the last 7-8 years and it's proven to be stable, full featured and dependable. The costs are very low compared to the other options out that. Good work Microsoft.

4 out of 5 eggsPrevious poster needs to get a clue

Pros: Two physical servers are NOT required. Previous poster is obviously out of his leauge and should quit doing IT work. Running VMs is the future and anyone not using VMs is not keeping up with the times. If the poster was smart he'd have setup the free Hyper V server from Microsoft on the new server and then installed the two instances of Windows Server needed... Then it would be all on one machine he would then be able to do backups of the whole VMs to his old server on which he would also run Hyper V and be able to use it as a backup DR server if the other went down for some reason.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Dont listen to people who do not want to keep up with current tech

1 out of 5 eggsunstable kludge

Pros: This server is very similar to Windows Home Server 2011. Dead simple setup. Supposedly more secure than previous versions.

Cons: The client's LOB app requires SQL server, which is a popular reason for buying SBS. Our client bought an expensive new PowerEdge. After the install, we dropped the premium add-on disc in the machine and immediately got an error stating we needed a second physical server. This caught us completely by surprise. Dell said an option was to run 2 VMs on the 1 new server. Ha-ha! M$ "preferred solution" is to use 2 physical servers. Because of licensing, we ended up re-using the client's old server to run the Premium Add-on, which is actually Server 2008 and SQL server 2008.
The SBS standard by itself is riddled with bugs and flaws. Mapping to the server is impossible without typing the complete path. VPN/RDP access was impossible using the "wizard". I can't express the HORROR of seeing multiple pop-ups ON THE SERVER saying "server not found" and "server is unavailable" at 3:30AM.

Other Thoughts: YOU NEED TWO PHYSICAL SERVERS if you are going to run the SBS 2011 Premium add-on for SQL server.
I get that spreading the load could increase speed, but it's a SMALL business server! And why no warning? What we expected to be a relatively quick install turned into a five day ordeal with a very unhappy client and a quirky server we have very little faith in.

5 out of 5 eggsSBS 2011

Pros: We upgraded the hardware on an older Dell Poweredge 2900 server and installed SBS 2011 64 Bit, the install was seamless, all settings are very intuitive and menu driven. Overall Microsoft did an excellent job in preparing this product for Small Business Clients with little or no IT resources. The price was very low especially from NewEgg.

Cons: None, very intuitive, stable and secure server OS!

Other Thoughts: NewEgg, what can I say, this company has surpassed themselves time and time again in customer service excellence, we always pick the first when looking for IT products.
Thank you!

5 out of 5 eggsMedia and license

Pros: The mfr product code T72-02881 in the product name advertises the product including both media and license. Although I needed only the license (yes, the OEM case sticker is included), it was nice to see that the product was delivered with the DVD media (plus an extra DVD with OEM preinstallation kit).

Cons: Newegg may wish to revise the product name to reflect included media AND license.

Other Thoughts: The package I received was the standard sealed bubble envelope packaged by the mfr.
